  2. Hey guys just wanted to report my first time out squiding with a fellow fishraider "SQUIDIN" thanks for the squid jig as got me 3 squid in matter of minutes :). Was a little slow at first but got into it after awhile. The partner and I ended up with 7 squid in matter of a few hours. Was down at port hacking so hopefully get to use the little suckers to get some jew fish next week.

Never mind the jewfish mate, you fry them up in wok on high heat with garlic, chilli, salt, pepper and shallots and THEN your talking business!!!

Boring old jews can be caught on plastics and blades.

MmMmmmMmMmm ive just made myself hungry

Wish i could bring my boat down and go chasing kings with ya mate. Bermy is unreal. Go see the boys in the tackle shop across from the river ramp, they will point you well. Paddle outside the Bar/Heads/ Rivermouth and go to the point of the bay, ( Its normally well protected Especially if the wind is from the south ). Try anything there. I wouldnt be surprised what you would catch there. Live bait, Salmon, Taylor, Squid, Groper, You could even pick up a small king if your lucky. Try it,

    Dave

Yeh mate my first stop is always at the tackle shop there, Scotty and the boys are always very helpfull and accurate with information. You've nailed it on the head too! Aside from fishing Wallaga and the Bermi river I was planning to slow troll a livie around the point hopefully for a king or maybe bit of fun on a shark. Do you know of any reefs in close I could do some bottom bashing or snapper fishing on?

if you have the time make sure you come on down! What a great part of the world hey.

  4. Thanks alot guys... Anyone else want to contribute? Maybe with a diagram or pic???

C'MON BJ YOU DONT ASK FOR MUCH! :074:

Mate get geoff wilsons book of knots. I have never bothered to learn it coz quite frankly i could never be bothered and fishing with lures 99% of my time its not needed nowadays but my mate did show me a couple of time and basically it was a suicide tied via a normal snell, with another suicide tide onto the main line using an additional length of line, thereby the mainline running through the snell and along the shank of the hook closest to your rod tip. My mate does them with his eyes shut, i just by the gamakatsu 3 packs of ready made non adjustable ones if im after 2 hook rigs which is very rare that i use them.

  6. I found these on the net and they look so good that I had to buy 1.. Just wondering if anyone else has seen them? Do they work?

Basicly it is a rig to attach to the SP to help make the plastic dance all over the place as if it was alive with out the retrieve so the plastic is staying in the strike zone at all times..

i found it on the website http://secretweaponlures.com/ i will let you know what happens when they arrive, but I think they will work.. :1fishing1:

    LOL

Good thing you only bought the one!

  7. I have had my quintrex for a little over a year now, it is a 530 top ender, purchased new from hunts marine in march 2010.

Within six months I noticed unusual blistering in the hull, not worrying too much about it as cosmetically a fishing boat is made to be practical. The blistering is not major at this stage, but slowly getting worse.

A few months back, May 2011 I noticed an issue when using the VHF, when the VHF was transmitting the sounder which is a hds5 will dim to the point of resetting itself if transmit was held long enough, the Stereo will also reset.

After some investigation thinking I had a problem with my new 1KW transducer, and VHF Radio, I had Disconnected the Sounder, and still had a problem when using VHF, stereo would cut out.

Then Disconnected the negative terminal of the VHF and thats when I was puzzled that it was still on! it stayed on with only the positive terminal connected!

I then disconnected the antenna and thats when the VHF turned off, so i figured the hull was earthed.

Being P!@@#$ Off! went to Hunts Marine and spoke to the service department about the issue with the hull being earthed, they told me that the boat was out of warranty (I was only two months out) and told me to replace the VHF. and the fact that the hull was earthed is normal to them.

I went back to the boat and noticed that the negative terminals coming from both batteries was bolted straight onto the hull without an insulated block, so I took that off thinking it will resolve the issue, but tests with multi metre and using VHF showed no solution. I then gave up

I am pissed off with Hunts Marine and Quintrex and don't want to go back to them to sort it out, they won't acknowledge the issue without charging an arm and a leg to have a look at a problem that has been there from day one.

I need some advice on sorting this issue out, and would like to know if this is common and do i have something to worry about.

Sounds like you have some major electrolysis issues.

Thats some shit service dude

Whats the point of buying a new boat under warranty if your going to have to deal with that rubbish...

Mate I'd go straight back to the dealer and be firm. Let the issue be known and make it clear that its been that way from the start. If the bloke wants to do right by his customers he will take the time to sort it out and make it right. If not then its to his own detriment. But be firm, the customer must come 1st. If that fails-

Ask Huey, his service may not be under warranty, his workshop might not be close by, but from all accounts he will help you, make it right, give sound advice and you'll be looked after. At least you will then have piece of mind.

    Thats what you want!

  8. Hey Raiders

Went to the Peak, found schools of jackets.. went home! Sucked!

    Cheers

    Trung

Mate i LOVE hearing about schools of leatherjackets!!!

If i found them i would be cheering!!!! I'd stock my esky full of the tasty buggers.

Its not their fault clowns keep dropping down $20 knife jigs at them and never learn, seriously, if life throws lemons at you... MAKE LEMONADE!!!

mmmmm deep fried leatherjackets with cracked pepper and lemon with wedges, Too Good

  9. Nice flatty.. What a croc! !. I would of kept it as I consider the bigger ones taste better.

I think they ALL taste awesome and a big one like that contains "more meat less fat- yummy flathead you cant beat that!"

Also, my theory is your better of eating a 1m fish (provided u can appreciate and consume it while fresh) rather than a 60cm fish which will be in its prime of breeding. Fish arnt immortal and a flatty in its extreme limits isnt going to live forever! Enjoy it mate well done.

You dont ever see anyone worried about a 1.2m king or a 42cm bream, or a 45cm whiting. So seriously, enough with the media hype, stay within fisheries rules (which have research and stats behind them) and everyone just stay civilised, enjoy fishing and dont hate on one another!

  10. The canopy on my Allison Fisherman 189 has become quite mouldy and I would like to clean it up, but am hesitant to do so using normal household mould killing products for fear of damaging the material. It has also shrunken to some extent, which makes it quite difficult to do up the press studs securing it to the canopy frame. Are there any products that I can safely use to clean up the mould and hopefully prevent it from recurring? I have noticed that time in the sun seems to allow the canopy to stretch out and makes it a bit easier to use the press studs, but is there some other method that I can use?

Try selleys sugar soap. Soak it for a while and then give it a bit of a scrub with extra sugar soap and then wash it out. Mould is a difficult one to get rid of. Once you have washed off as much as you can reinstall the canopy while wet as it would have expanded to the right size again. Letting it dry in extreme heat or direct sunlight is what will shrink it again.

I had a canvas boat cover and after sitting in the rain and under trees for many years it got mouldy and i found it almost impossible to clean. I used bleach which got a fair bit of it off but thats only coz my next option was throwing it out so i had nothing to lose. Give the sugar soap a crack its what painters use inside houses on mouldy walls and ceilings.

  11. Hey raiders my mate is changing his motor on his 15 foot fiberglass boat from his problem ridden 74model 50hp my question is the motor he wants is a 35hp model is this enough to push it around? Doesn't need to be at light speed but faster than walking pace would be nice

My boat n motor came as a package so I don't really have a clue

Im no expert but for a boat of that size and weight i'd say the 35hp would struggle to get her up on the plane if the boat is loaded with a few fisho's and gear. On his own it would be no speed machine but would certainly do the job. Within reason, I dont think you can be over powered- better to have some power in reserve rather than work the engines ass off at capacity everytime its being used. But then when $$$ and budget comes into the question it can be a delicate balancing act. Having said that, old mate from Huett marine is into those new budget style outboards which are still backed up by a decent warranty so it might be worth a look. Your mate be able to afford 10-15 extra HP more which would certainly do the job in all conditions. Worth a look.

  12. BJ whats going on mate you another one with a full time sling?

I got a guy near me who broke his arm and was put in a sling, that was like 5 years ago! really???

Check out "launch and retrieve boat latch". Just what your after.

You can also do a few other things. I used to borrow my mates 5, fibreglass boat sometimes and i would roll back, hit the brakes so it would come off the trailer with a long bow rope attached to the rear ladder rack on my Ute, then i would stop the car once its off, get out, undo the rope, walk the boat around to the pontoon tie off and go park the car and trailer. On retrieving i would simply drive the boat hard up onto the trailer, keep in in gear thrusting forward while i got on the nose hung over the front and hooked the strap up. Might have looked a bit like organised chaos but it worked and faster than two man crews sometimes!

For now just with a kayak i just dump it in where ever i want

  13. I want your garage!

Although truth be told I wouldn't know what to do with half the stuff in it :074:

A garage with a fire truck, car hoists and a scissor lift in it means serious business!

Looks like its easily the strongest part of the trailer now!

  15. Great report mate!

I've thought about getting the camera sunnies but my issue with them is the fact that the camera will obviously go where ever my head turns, which means if im after good footage i cant really stay alert and look around or check out any scenery. Do you find you have that issue?

  16. Went for a fish the other day down at the creek that comes out of Lake Tuggeranong, Canberra. Has produced a few yellowbelly and cod for me in the past but mainly redfin and carp. After losing my soft plastic to knots in my braid i decided just to baitfish for a bit. All on worms i got 3 carp, 1 biggy(60-70cm) and 4 redfin. After noticing my line with bread was pulling a bit i striked and hooked a nice little cod. It was probably only 37cm but was good to see a fat and healthy cod in a waterway usually dominated by redfin and carp.

    post-16504-096250400 1322650307_thumb.jpg

Thats a good catch for around there. I find redfin are mainly caught while on lures and carp on bait while im fishing down that way. Im looking forward to the next job I have down in canberra im taking my yak and all my freshwater gear for sure!!!

  18. I wonder if getting it serviced will Void the warranty?

    HUH?

mate if you stop playing silly buggers and send it off to Daiwa your issues going to be fixed free of charge without any effect on the rest of your warranty. I wouldnt go opening it up yourself unless your experienced and talking about it on the forum wont mysteriously fix the problem.

Send it off! In the mean time use other reels and You will have it back as good as new for the new year.
