  1. hi guys and girl just a quick post, i have never fished port hacking before only for squid i am taking the girlfriend out this weekend for a stayover on the boat and was wondering where to find the kings in the area and if there on the bite at the moment, i will have live squid for bait and am hoping to get the plastics out as well,,

any info would be awesome as i really want to get her hooked up on a king

    cheers andy

Hey Andy, We've had some good runs of kingies out from the Lilli Pilli baths but not sure at the moment it might be a bit early for them to be up there in any real numbers. If you anchor up and fish really light pilchard chunks will produce some good bream in the same area too.

Try outside around jibbon bombie or merries reef.

The rat kings have entered sydney harbour so that is another option is your interested. Fresh squid is best.

  2. To the d'head Scumbags that stole my trailer while I out in the boat. You idiots. Had a bent draw bar, expired rego label etc. What were you thinking.......to take someone's trailer off the vehicle knowing they were out on the water is bloody unaustralian. I returned to Tunks park in pouring rain at 8:30 at nite to discover my loss. With three young dinghy sailors on board. That's right I volunteer helping out junior sailing whilst being a mad keen fisho. Thank you to middle harbor yacht club who looked after my 6m Rib while I got a new trailer.

Jeez Louise, there are some real a'holes out there.

Did u have any anti-theft devices of any kind on it?

Those types really are lower than a snakes belly, chances are they arnt even going to use it as a trailer, most likely at sims metal for thirty bucks!

  5. Haha i went there last week and it was exactly what all the raiders warned me bout on here lol

just naked old men standing hands on hips, pointing their shriveled wands :pokey: right at ya an saying..."any luck?" and thankfully my answer was fairly short, simply "not yet" lol although i did land a nice salmon around 50cm which unhooked itself on the rocks and also freed itself before a snap could be taken and a flounder, just as i was leaving a haud of asian guys headed down to my spot equipped with their night fishing gear, aiming for some tailor, so they said, but i reckon they had more chance of scoring with one of the old codgers! :1boff:

  6. Went catching on Tuesday, putting in at Revesby Beach about 9.30am sounded out a few locations between Revesby beach and the Moons. Not a lot of fish holding spots but land base fisho try the rocks off Lugarno at the enterance to Salt Pan Creek Fish showing up on the sounder along the rock face floats a must. We fished the moons with a small catch of Whiting and Bream, we had to throw 3 back for every keeper. We check the river arround the Lugarno Seafood Resturant and Illawaong ramp with no solid signs of fish schools. We worked the river to como with no results water cold at 14.2 bottom of the run out tide, como bridge is holding fish small but we did sound some large fish arches nth side but with catches but none rave about. The run in tide lifted water tempreture to 15.5 and we headed to Captain Cook Brigde by 1pm and the story the same a few flathead and Bream, small fish taking baits,. we shot up the oil terminal with no catching results water temp 16.

Overall it was nice on to be on the water catching was slow but i still go again this weekend.

    Talley 4 Bream 3 Flathead 3 Whiting 1 Squid

Awesome report mate, all the facts straight to the point well done, much appreciated!

Decent feed there afterall. Best of luck for your next session too

  7. Hi all,

I got an email from the Shooters & Fishers party advising of public forums to contribute to NPWS management of feral animals.

Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the email, but apparently one of the Greenie groups is trying to have Trout a declared noxious fish in NSW.

    Anyone else seen this item?

Ive just about had a gutfull of these bloody greenie types! So trouts an introduced species, so is every other dog beside the dingo, so are cats, so are lama's, alpacas, horses, cows and chickens... Why dont we just have one massive cull and wipe them ALL out? Wait, the greenies dont like killing things my bad!

    Bloody hypocrits!

Btw, I'd like to see this email you refer to. If its true then they REALLY have too much time on their hands.

  8. Yer sorry to be a downer but i owned a 560c with a etec and cant say anything good about a etec except there good at keeping oil companies rich and as for the 560 nothing really great there either 150 litre tank not enough for a days trolling well not with that etec i had and i was glad to see the back of it.

I regularly fish out of my mates 560c with a 140hp Suzuki four stroke and from 5am until 4pm, jigging for bait or trolling offshore all day we have never used more than 80 or so litres. For offshore work four strokes a no brainer IMO.

Great boat Jizz, perfect for anchoring over the flats off Towra!

  9. THANKS Iceman, i will need to change jigheads.

EPs and BASS they ALL look the same to me.

Ive noticed EPs have abigger mouth as well.

Why will you need to change jig heads mate? Your poling them in with your own gear and knowledge so just just keep doing whatever your doing. Hopefully this rain didnt mess things up in that area which to my knowledge has been dirty all winter due to the never ending rains!

    Great fishing mate!

  10. Hello All,

This may be a silly question - I am interested in anyone's tips on how to clean fish on your boat without making a huge mess - scaling, gutting etc.

By that I mean that the boat ramp i use does not have fish cleaning facilities and I would prefer to clean them before getting home - I understand it is illegal to fillet fish on your boat.

    Thanks heaps.

    Sido

Just go nuts on the baitboard or gunwhales- nevermind the mess. When your done dump a couple of buckets of water over it all and walla!

  11. If its four stroke your after both Yamaha and Honda are both great engines. But then again so are Suzi's and Mercs.

Some people have a preference for certain brands just like holden and ford fans etc, thats not to say one is superior to the other in every aspect.

Modern engines are all great when treated right although long term corrosion resistance can be a factor.

Look for power to weight ratios, fuel consumption, warranty and service, and after all that you'll probably just end up going for the one that looks the best!

Good luck with it whichever brand you choose to go, its always great having the peace of mind of a new motor.

  12. im sorry i cant tell you exactly where is the spot. all i can say is it is located down south of sydney. it is near the national park. hope this helps. my mate told me" to keep it a secret".

Thats all they want mate, stories! Like old ladies reading mills and boon novels ha ha ha!

I love the "straight to the point" format mate well done on getting out there and poling in a few!

  13. Good luck with that

Even the maritime in my location couldn't tell me where they where holding courses (unless I wanted to travel 3hours away) search the web with no luck

So if any body knows around the ACT please let me know, I'll be taking the route of fitting and waiting.

And since I'm the skipper and I,m responsible. I'll take the fine, if it comes down to it. better to be rescued than be floating around out there with no radio contact.

I know that there is going to be people upset with this, but I could guarantee that most people out there would not have a license for their radio, even if they are aware that they need one

Mate I wouldnt worry about it too much. Like you said better to be rescued floating than to not have a radio at all. Im yet to hear of someone copping a fine for using the radio for genuine reasons without the required lisence. Its basically so that people follow the correct procedure, understand the different working channels and what they are used for including various call signs etc. The whole reason there are restriction on it is the very fact they are working channels particularly VHF 16 and the harbour master on 13 for Sydney/Botany as an example. Its to stop clowns from playing silly buggers and clogging up the system. I'd highly reccomend doing the course at some stage but simply listening to it on scan function is very educational in itself.

  14. Hey fellas,

someone will know. i picked up a 2nd hand tinny the other day with 9.9 hp yam on it. i think when i left, the bloke didnt tilt the engine properly, somewhere on route home the engines come down straight and i basically snapped the small fin under the prop. its just a throw around tinny but will this affect the basic functions of the engine or can i get away with it. no damage to gearbox bit, just the fin or half of it. Also what material is this casing, it aint just metal as its got some powdery composite in it. cheers guys. pics abit small

Bummer mate, but i wouldnt blame the guy though. You should always check these things before you drive off. For a small outboard such as that have it tilted up and sit the weight of the engine back down onto a broom stick or sumthing, the bracket to hold the outboard up isnt rated to take the weight of a motor bouncing up and sown while being towed so use the broom stick and also strap the leg of the motor back down to the trailer so it cant bounce!

As for that fin, it will affect the way the the thing steers and the maouverability of the boat while under way. I have seen them break before and i have known of people getting them rewelded back on so it is possible. Not the end of the world but you wanna get that fixed.

    Cheers

  15. This is true and I am not complaining. :) except when I have to fill up.

But 300+ of fuel is a hell of a lot of fuel to be running around with. (And yes I do know that there is no fuel stations out there)

Thought somebody may have a similar set up to get me started, I'll do some fuel runs and see.

Ahhh the joys of boat ownership! They say "a boat is a hole in the water you throw your money into"

BOAT- aka "Bring On Another Thousand"!!!!

But we wouldnt have it any other way right!

  16. OK short question long basically

I have just purchased a 6.1m plate boat with a 130hp Honda four stroke motor around 150hrs.

I was told that the boat had a 200 lt tank on board that's great I was thinking.

On further inspection it seams to be around the 325Lt mark as I have just put in a fuel sender and gauge and place 160Lt's in already, to check fuel lines.

The question is how much fuel would I require for a days trolling/ or general fishing.

Will be fishing out of Batemans Bay/Tathra

I know this question is like how long is a piece of string but whats the norm for this size boat? From memory the old man use to take around 70Lt's out for a general bottom bashing day not traveling to far with a 70hp two stroke.

Just getting back it to the sport from thing that where alot faster.

    Thoughts ?

    Cheers

  17. I have 92 40hp mercury magnum started it up the other day after about 6 weeks I noticed after a few minutes the water coming out of the outlet was steaming and I couldn't hold my hand under there also noticed it wasn't coming out in a steady stream my guess is the impeller is probably stuffed is it an easy fix or should I take it to a mechanic?

If its pumping water out (even a tiny bit) then its not the end of the world coz its still cooling. It wont come out as a steady stream if it is "water cooled with thermostat" which small modern mercury/mariner outboards are. It will keep the engine at optimum running temp via a thermostat which controls the water for cooling. I have a 25 merc and its sometimes only just bearable to hold my hand under the water stream, and the steam will be greater if the surrounded air temps are lower. Having said that if its barely spouting water or is thermostatically controlled and spouts water non stop all the time then get it checked out, could be the thermostat or impeller as you mentioned.
