  1. Ben Awsome report Well done Patrick
  2. Off tomorrow (Friday) & Saturday, going to get a couple of live baits and swim them around West Head and Pittwater, depending what it looks like out. On the water about 5, home by 11.30 Will see about Saturday but probably get some of the million jobs around home done
  3. I once got hit in the back by a spotty fishing the channel at Townsville, at first I thought my mate at the other end of the boat had thrown something at me, but in the floor of the boat was the spotty with blood coming out of its gills, mind you the bruise in the middle of my back wasnt pretty either. I think sometimes when mackos are feeding on small bait they seem to come up vertical through the water column and spear straight up in the air with there mouth open sieving the bait. I have seen it a few times on the gravel beds out from Cape Bowling Green, We sitting in a 14ft boat and had 10-15kg mackos jumping all around us, got a few though that day.
  4. Havent been fishing for 3 weeks with going away and work, so i was looking forward to having a look around. launched at 6 decided to go out to box but was a little bit hesistant as it was windy through the early hours of the morning, but it was fine. Twice I had to stop and clear weed off the leg and brackets, jeez there was a heap around this morning, I reckon the boat picked up a couple of knots in speed. Concentrated between box and killcare First plan was to troll some large lures in case some bigger fish were used to hunting some of the mullet that have been around, no good first up Plan B , trolled a uzi and a medium mcgoo along the rocks to see if any kings were looking, started catching choppers, pulled the dearer lures out (there is alimit to what choppers are worth) and put in a xmas tree and pink squid and caught 11 not bad choppers. Hooked up on something more decent but drifted too close to box and had to move out and I must have let the line go slack because the hook dropped out, oh well. then trolled up a pike and so I bridle rigged it and pulled it along for a while to see if I could tempt something else? nothing Pulled the boat out at 11, went home and washed it and packed things up ready to go back at 12.30 to meet the other guys. It was good to meet the others and put a few more faces to names Patrick

    Fishing Weipa

Point 1 Admission - I have used this post to unashamedly post photos of fish Signed Patrick Now I have got that off my chest. I have been to both siesha and wiepa Siesha has some great fishing and a couple of guides to choose from but you would need to book quickly as once the road is open it gets pretty busy If you dont have a boat siesha has a jetty to fish off..........higher off the water and less chance of biteys! Here is a photo of the jetty We were there for about 8 days and caught mackos, quennies, TV's, sharks, hooked a cod (sought of), tarpon etc... Hint - Jig some herring or squid and float them just beyond the lights at night and hang on
  10. they are just awsome looking fish out of clean water well done
  11. went up to lake st clair yesterday but with the diary full today (sons football and cricket preso) options where limited, no time to put the boat in the water this morning so for something I haven't done for a while i went spinning up at avoca. Yes on a weekend, something i gave up doing ages ago becuase of the buls$%# that goes on up there. The sea wasnt too bad and with a falling tide conditions where OK, and there wasnt a heap of people. But there was the usual mess over the rocks, if people can carry this stuff in, wht cant they carry it less than 500m back to the bins,??????????? Caught 4 bonnies and one salmon in just over an hour and a half (5.30 till 7.30 am), spent a bit of time watching the water as I haven't been up there for a while. Saw a heap of bonnies, one small mack tuna, a couple sambos and a couple of small kingies caught, one kingie was kept, the guy measured it and reckoned it was OK but i was sceptical. Didnt i get funny looks though when i let all my fish go Nice sunrise and fresh air was a great start to the day PS. Also a guy caught a couple huge squid, if i could have got back earlier this afternoon i may have gone up for another look up there for some calamari Patrick
  12. I belive the best thing to clean a reel is a evaporating type hydrocarbon like dry cleaning fluid or shellite, something that does leave a residue like diesel. I used to use jack erskines reel silky grease but need a new tube, but i dont think they make this anymore, for oil i use one of those diawa pens when i get home I give my reels a very very light rinse with clean water (no pressure) and then a spray with a waterproof spray, i used to use wd40 but now use inox.
  13. I aim for once a week, but it is usually twice
  14. Very soon, some of guys doing the hawkesbury are starting lookout tomorrow There is already some fish boxes on some of the beaches up north and the patonga ones get dropped this week. A lot of rain can also trigger the run which has happened a couple of times over the last few years. The amount of rain and wind direction has a big factor on where in the river the fish run. Sometimes mid stream, sometimes along the shore which means they can have a shot at them.

    First Bass

The barometer was a little bit higher yesterday, over 1020, so it may have been a bit better yesterday. I have got a little murray cod in a tank at home, the last few days he has eaten his head off. Today it has fallen a bit. The surface temp on the water was 22 degrees, a lot warmer than air temp first thing this morning

Evan Well done and a great photo, It was a great morning up there this morning, I was in an old cream coloured quinnee with my wife. I got there about 6 and left at 12, its 2 hours up there from my place. We caught 3 bass, the biggest about your size and the other two went downhill from there. Funny enough we got all 3 fish in the same bay. We hammered that bay caught a fish, then nothing. Went and tried somewhere else, came back and caught another. Got a couple of nudges in other places but didnt hook up. But a great morning using lures Well done Patrick
  17. Ben, I think the most important thing to take in your bagge is.............................me Mind you, you ,may have a problem with excess baggage. Have a great trip Patrick

  20. I seen this is going to be this Fridays Courier Mail fishing spots section, apparently c/o fishraider.com
  21. fish both days, dont know where but maybe lake st clair before it cools off too much on one day
  22. Colin, I think the water temp was 22, the tide was running out. Patrick
  23. No fishing this easter due to having visitors all easter and work, fishing was not allowed to be on the agenda as I am going bush for a week soon on a property between Taroom and Wondoan in Qld. But Sunday came along they were all sitting there talking and not doing much and the weather still looked pretty good, there was a chance. Ducked out about 3pm for a couple of hours with a promise to be home for tea. Tried for a live bait at west head with the plan to slow troll a couple of livies around here and pittwater, with not much time did no good getting livies so plan B. Trolled a couple of lures around and caught a couple of tailor in front of west head, made my way down pittwater one strike and no good. With the amount of boat traffic and wash I was sought of glad there will always be next weekend. With the bigger tides and rain we have just had the area around Patonga, F&S and West Head had very dirty water. and I made it home just as tea went on the table. There is always next time Patrick
  24. Barry Mundi Great story and photos I spent a few years living up that way. Some of the best fishing for pelagics we ever had was around that area and cape bowling green further south. I left my fare share of lures and line around some of those pylons on the Lucinda jetty. Here are a couple of mackos caught down south at Bowling Green out of a CCC punt that a mate of mine used as a guide boat We also fished around an little island up the top of the island off Cape Richards I think...it could have been Iva or Eva Island I think. We hooked some the biggest TV's up that way, didnt land too many but got smoked on 15kg big time. There was also some great Nth Blues, Mackos, Queennies, TV's etc... Give that a go if you can get away from the channel that is. Have a ball Patrick
  25. the beach north of the ramp at Ettalong is not bad to bobby cork on. A live poddy or a couple white bait under a booby cork on an outgoing tide drifted 20 ft or so from the beach, can't do it on public holidays or weekends, too many people. Usually get a couple of good flattys and occasional bream and tailor
