    Trailer Lights

Ian, I have seen a set up that clips onto the two tow hooks on the back of the boat, you then lower the motor down to hold it all in place, that may be closer to legal?
  2. Ross talks on "high tide" each week, out of some of the dribble on that show his 5 minutes or so are the best part of the show. That is if I am listenening as if I am not at work I am usually fishing this time of the morning.

    Trailer Lights

I have submersible lights mounted on the guards. They are supposed to be waterproof, one is the - other isnt, and they very rarely get dunked but one gets water in it all the time. Use another option.
  4. I use a little eagle sounder in my coleman scanoe. I power this with a 2.5hp merc (where powered O/B are allowed). I use a suction cup mount for the transducer, it stays on OK. When under full power on the OB occassionally it comes off especially if its a little rough but there a safety rope to stop the transducer getting munched. I have never had it come off when paddling. I have attached a couple of photos that may help
  5. Went out the front door about 4:30 this morning, I even rechecked the forecast and it was SW 10 knots, tendings at 15, freshening 15/20 in the evening. Well it looked at 10 knots or better when it was dark which doesnt bode well for when the sun comes up. Went to west head, picked up a couple of yakkas and slow trolled around there a couple of times and then zig zagged down Pittwater. Even done a couple laps around the bay that the rats where in last weekend but nothing. By now the wind was blowing 15/20 so went back to west head to see if that was any better, it was terrible, with the tide going one way and the wind another it looked like a washing machine, in my little boat anyway. Then went down to F&S but it was like Pitt St, done a couple of drifts on the sand on the outside of the anchored boats, sometimes you can get a good flatty doing this. Went home about 10, thats fishing.
  6. After a while we started catching tarpon, Trevas etc.. and they would come up and gobble them like lolly pops.
  7. no wonder you are complaining about cold water, the news here had that about 15 icebergs have been seen south of NZ (700kms) soouth, first ones sighted that close to the south isl in 20 years.......something like that
  8. its the right time of year for the leadenells (or frigates) to turn up to. They zoom around Patonga, The best lure I found for them was those little searocks, but they can be damn hard to catch sometimes.

    Where Is?

you are right. it is the tip of cape york. You go all the way there and when you get there are two islands a couple of hundred metres off shore.
  10. Same species - Moses Perch (Lutjanus russelli), Mangorve Jack (Lutjanus argentimaculatus). Nearly all that family know how to go - jacks, chinaman, red emp., red bass etc... I think a big moses perch is about 40cm, whilst some of there relatives can get a lot bigger
  11. You can have more things in the tank but when you get up the next morning there will be only 1 thing still swimming
  12. This old - 1998, but I thought it is an interesting photo. I caught a spaniard (about 8-10kg) off the jetty at Siesha on Cape York. This cod came up and ate it. You can see the tail of the spaniard and my line. Those pylons are about 2-3 ft across. It lasted oh!!!!!!!!! at least a couple of seconds Amazing
  13. I have had a few native fish in tanks Barra - sometimes they will only eat live food which can get pretty expensive unless you can catch enough mosquito fish etc... to feed it. But they way they light up and stalk and then make fish dissapear is great. Silver Perch - grow really quick but rule the tank Yellas - Grow slowly but usually only come out at night so you never see them until they get big. Bass - same as Barra, but moody depending on the barometer Catfish - just grow and grow Mangrove Jack - absolutely amazing the way the colours light up and how savage the attack is, I think this one died from hitting the glass too hard chasing food. Bream - it is amazing how aggressive the bream actually where, it was in a tank with catfish and a barra, most times it was the bream that ate things first This cod was about 40mm long whem I got it, it is now about 150mm long. We got it at the floral spring festival they have at Kariong each year (I think August), I think it was about $10. It eats everything, brine shrimp, goldfish, blood worms, crayfish and fish food. It will be interesting to see how big he gets, he is in a 5ft tank on his own except for a couple of red claw crays, which help feed him by producing babies.
  14. in heavier mono 8kg plus I dont mind the the tenX line. I have got Vanish on a bait rod at the moment and find it pretty good, not as limp as Maxima though.
  15. Thanks for the replies, I was jsut curious and thought it may be worth a shot in Feb with lures when it gets hotter. If it is mainly a bait place I am not really interested. I have got a cod in a fish tank at home and it is amazing to watch the effects the barometer and weather conditions have
  16. Friday was terrble around Pittwater and joey, there was heap of big boats going to Sydney for NYE and none of them realised how much wash they put off or cared for that matter.
  17. Add that lure to a "hall of fame", I have a few lures that have caught a heap of fish, some wont even swim anymore but I keep them anyway "for memories" I suppose.
  18. Those taylor mades in both surface and divers at the moment are working really well. On our last couple trips to lake st clair they have been the standouts By the way, that bass is a great fish for a river fish
  19. has anyone tried the dam at kariong for cod, silvers etc... I know you have to pay but have seen a couple of pretty good pictures of cod out of there lately, being 15 minutes from home it could be worth a look
  20. just with getting live bait at the moment..........I have founb that the bait jigs are outfishing bait at them moment, with liberal doses of burley of course. Not so much outcathcing but catching the right things..... The main reason is that there is a heap of mados, sweep, butterfish and other garbage around, and bait is catching too many of these, whilst the jigs tend to catch yakkas and slimys

    Bb/pittwater

Good to see a few of you guys. Happy to help passing the fish on Friday. Saturday - pulled a couple of yakkas over half of broken bay - west head, joey, out a little wider, even done a dozen or so laps around a school of yakkas feeding in the current line out from Palmy. trouble was they were feeding but nothing was eating them! Big thanks to Allan and Joe for giving us directions to a least get a fish on. The king I got was on a yakka I hung over the side as it was rigged up to troll. It didnt like being there because when I looked over the side you could see a few kings looking at him. Had lots follows on the sluggos and a strike but didnt hook up. I hung around a bit longer and a school of tailor showed up, dont they make short work of sluggos!!!!!!! 3 casts, 3 lures, put a little searock metal slug on, the talor were interested and then a bigger king followed it back to the boat and pulled out right at the rod tip. Thanks guys Had the usaul shitfull crap at the ramp, a guy in a ski show boat, pulls up jumps his car drives in front of 3 of us already waiting a couldnt see a issue with it, some people just shouldnt have a boat. The weather today looked great, but I had to work...
  22. Have you seen the new (Sept 04) NSW fisheries measurement stickers. They have pictures of different fish, legal lengths and bag limits. Not a bad idea!
