  8. Hey mate You can fish anywhere in wagonga from the town wharf right down to the back. You must stay out of the marine parks. It is a lure only comp. See you there
  9. Hi Paul. A brag mat is provided to every angler. The fish must be photographed on that bragmat and also have a key in the photo. The key is numbered and is given to the team just before the start of each day. Check out the video and you will see what I mean. Cheers

  12. Good friends Troy (mialla), Jon and myself headed up to Narooma last weekend to fish in the 3rd Annual Narooma Flathead Challenge. A really well organised event and just a great weekend away. Its a team event and the best 5 fish for each day was measured and a total length taken. Wagonga inlet at Narooma is by far the toughest of all the estuaries that we fish when it come to catching any sort of reasonable numbers of flathead and I knew it wasnt really a matter of the best 5 fish....the real challenge was going to be just landing 5 fish. We arrived on Friday around 11am and hit the water just after 12pm to see if we could find a few fish......wow was it tough......we fished for about 4 hours and landed only 1 fish....we knew we were in for a challenge. Saturday morning 8am and it was on.....we managed a couple of quick fish early and were feeling a bit better. We only landed the 4 legals on day one although Jonny landed the biggest fish of the day for all competitors....she came in at 68.5. At the end of Day 1 only 3 teams had landed 5 fish......21 teams out of 60 didnt even land a fish including many locals so to say it was tough is an understatement ......our 4 fish saw us sitting in 4th place. In first place was the team that won the event last year so we knew we needed a good day on Sunday ....5 fish with a nice one in the bag. Sunday was pretty blowy in the main basin so we headed to some backwaters and landed fish number 1 early. A three hour period of nothing and we could feel it slipping away and then a surprise double hookup....57 and 69 and we were back in it. Did I say Wagonga was tough??? You really have to work hard there...We did end up with our 5 fish and a healthy bag at that of 48 55 56 57 and 69.....we knew we would go close but it wasnt quite enough and we came in 2nd The leading team also managed 5 fish including the biggest fish of the weekend....a beauty at 80cm.. Well done to The Boys from Junee TEAM READ COW.......some of their team have been fishing Wagonga for over 40years.....you cant beat experience. All in all the Narooma Flathead Challenge is all about having a bit of fun, a good laugh and a good yarn down at o'briens hotel... A great weekend away Check out all the footage here including a jew that we had the privilege of watching being caught..

  17. Steve we didn't really count fish caught ... But I reckon about 60-70..... There was some really tuff sessions where they were just not feeding and some got donuts for a whole half a day.... In previous years we have landed more like 160. All fish over 60 cm released and in truth we probably kept about 30 fish between the 5 of us for the whole weekend... Great fun and nice editing job Troy
  18. ok cool.....thnx can you tell me the difference and how you know?
  19. Hey guys. Coud someone tell me if this is a small GT? I caught it at Fitzroy island off the coast of Cairns. I got another on a bit bigger as well but didnt get a photo. Fitzroy is renowned for GT's. Thnx Raiders DC
  20. So I'm standing there minding my own business and this guy comes up to me and says, "hey mate can I hire your rod off you"......haha I didnt care if I forgot jocks or socks but I sure made sure I didnt forget a rod when on an island off the coast of Cairns. Was nice to meet you swano....I'm back in Vic now...ended up with a few more fish, nothing huge because when ever I hooked a decent fish it just took me onto the reef and cut me off.....really needed a boat up there,,,would of been awesome. The best fish I landed was a small GT (i think) on a roosta popper. I never got a photo of it but it was about 55cm or so. Got a heap of other reef fish including 7 coral trout but they werent huge. Caught a smaller one too which I did get a photo of. Can anyone tell me if its a Juvenile GT or something else? (ok given up trying to put the pic up, says I cant use that image extension?????? I am using photobucket???? always worked before)
  21. Yep. Great fish and in top nic too. Im hanging out for some flatty fishing. gonna try for some big girls soon. Well done you've got me fired up
