  1. The cooks river is one of the most polluted rivers in Australia I believe....I wouldn't eat fish from there every week but now and then may be considered ok I guess.
  2. North coast kings can also have this parasite.....
  3. Great stuff....amazing pictures of the fish under it but I really think you should have tied a line to the boat and towed it a little closer to sydney!!! Cheers..
  4. I know that they use baits such as live bream down South for these big tailor...
  5. Hi mate, i feel your pain. the kings are there but on the chew one day and heads in the ground the next. keep at it! cheers
  6. Hey dan, Good to see you and Greg getting into the kings...still yet to get to the squidding spot before him!!!! He really does put in the effort and it shows in his results. he is a little oldschool isn't he Are you guys still in the ryde area? Cheers, Brent ( white CC galeforce )
  7. Hi mate, To give you an idea..today i had a mate at the front of the boat and we were pitching baits to structure and holding boat there until hooked up. The first fish hit the 50lb braid outfit and did us somewhat easily, even with the boat doing some serious backing out as well. should also mention that this outfit doesn't do 50lb braid justuice and requires a fair bit of thumbing which my newby mate struggled with. I actually really enjoy this outfit as i find the thumbing a lot of fun!! We upgraded to the 80lb outfit (torsa 40)and the next hookup followed soon, once agian the boat was used to get his head pointing up along with some serious rod work on drag of well over 10kg. we got this fish in the boat at 95cm, in only about 12m of water. Both fish were hooked on 60lb flouro. i can't see too much point fishing heavier traces as if they get you down there they will usually slice up whatever you are fishing and you get more hits the lighter you go (talking bait fishing here not jigging). Go 80lb braid and run a trace depending on conditions on the day.... Cheers,
  8. He didn't mind your king picking up the anchor rope Tell him to get back onto those jews and leave the kingies for the rest of us I can't bump into him squidding (which we have done when sharing a drift) any more as the tinnie will scratch my glass tub now
  9. Dan, Well done again... Good to hear they are still on the chew and are eating a variety of baits. Hitting them tomorrow. I'll have to remember to downrig nice and close to greg now i know he doesn't like them!! Cheers, Brent
  10. hi guys, Enjoyed watching you wrestle that 1m kingy to the boat...i honestly thought he had done you in his first run which was brutal!! we managed to get some nice fish at another spot, one in the 90s.. the photo doesn't do your king justice....it was a great looking fish Cheers, brent (galey)
  11. Josh, That was me in the tinnie. Ended up with some nice kings. I had to leave the harbour to get good squid. Nice ride you got there...hell of a lot more comfortable in those conditions then my tiller steer!!!! Cheers, rippinlips
  12. Doug, they usaully happen for me when casting into wind or light baits etc. every now and then just cast out and wind line on under pressure. should do the trick. soemtimes changing your casting technique can help as well. The amount of braid on spool also seems to effect this as well. when braid drops a little it gets better but you lose casting distance..... having said that some days braid just wants to tangle on you. cheers.
  13. i chased them twice this week...bugger me they are the fussiest kings going around...i got a couple of fish very early in the morning with a white stickbait when the fish had sleep in there eyes...then they got hard flies worked well one day with me getting four (it took 7 changes in fly to find one they would eat). had to go down to 8lb leader as well which ended in tears of course and losing the only fly that worked which made next session very slow for me. i won't be chasing them anymore...stick to markers the kings are a bit more cooperative there..
  14. roberta, check with your insurance company..think i have heard that they sometimes reduce premium if you have locks fitted to the windows (could be mistaken.......) may help get back some of costs for installing locks
  15. great shark champ, love the photos too ..i know i would be using the zoom and not getting too close to that cranky looking bugger!! cheers.
  16. hi Mate, if i have any left after a days fishing they come out of the livie tank and straight into snap lock bags. seal the bag tight by submerging in water (below opening) to get rid of all air. hopr this make sense,. Cheers
  17. We landed a striped marlin early sunday morning. around the 70kg mark...happy days!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S BEAK WAS STUCK IN THE GAPE OF THE HOOK SO NOT ACTUALLY PINNED BY POINT OF HOOK !! These things are notorious for being hard to hook, keep hooked on lures... can't underestimate the importance of keeping in contact with a fish.... CHEERS,
  18. snapper hunter you are a goose...i've spent many hours fishing next to OZs crew and why would he bother keeping undersize kings when he catches so many good fish. if you want fish handed to you on a plate then go to a restaurant because you won't get much help here with your attitude....
  19. Dan, Nice work..I should have dragged some squid through there yesterday...didn't end up finding any sambos too windy by the time I got out there. I did hit it again today and did well...kings to 80cm, no mucking around with light gear today...may have to venture out again tomorrow..might need a 6pack of V's in the morning to get going though... Will need to go back to work to get a sleep in!!! I'm at eastryde so will have to keep an eye out for you guys around the locals... Cheers brent
  20. dan and greg, where you the two guys on the brooker i was talking to?? Well done on the kings. Cheers, brent (CHIPS)
  21. cam it is a great fishing spot..the wifes olds had an empty place up their for a few years..should of bought it!! i got so many flatties on fly (and my first) i had a tear in my eye when they sold the house....i still remember having to lipgrip an 80cm model as i was wading and the net was too far away...never again..finger was destroyed but got some great pics. after your report i think i might sort out a trip back down there soon!!! cheers rippinlips.
  22. hi, i got this one about 5 weeks ago.....went 5ft 7in...... don't eat fish so gave to mate..was cranky with bones but said flesh was nice... cheers.
