  1. Hi mate, Pulled out the box marked flathead and bream lures from some time ago...theses were the lure that I used for flatties..
  2. Always use live yabbies and worms when up the coast and they are easy to get. Stretched may have been the wrong choice of word...just want to keep fishing simple for now...
  3. Plucked two 70cm flatties on old school plastics yesterday on fill the plate with fish mission....don't need to go bigger and complicate fishing with collecting mullet as would let them go anyway and they don't really pull that much string....if I want to be stretched then would go on king mission.....
  4. Mate, For five dollars you have plenty to lose...how much is hanging off it?? I use to fish 1KG for trout but that was all mono...things have changed tackle wise but fish stay the same. That braid to leader knot has a lot to answer for....especially when so light.. Unless you are fishing comps stay with 6lb braid and similar leader and you will be fine...
  5. Just tried to find the pink plastic we used today and OK they don't exist any more...getting old... was wondering what the go to plastic for flatties is these days. After 5 years off the water have decided to stay away from the kings and getting back into the basics..
  6. I was trying to think of the name last night...mans for me as well...pink plastics did the damage on flatties today...
  7. I picked my boat up form Gold Coast. To up the a stakes i actually picked up the new tow vehicle the night before I drove up there!! i left on a Tuesday morning, got to dealer. Checked out boat paper work etc and made purchase. Drove to get temp rego. Wife did insurance. Then drove back to Ballina that afternoon. Stayed the night and drove back to Sydney next day. neghbours did not know what was going on and took some convincing that I had bought the car and boat... good luck. I would drive up, do an on water test etc
  8. Personally on the east side would not waste my cash on plastics for tailor as they happily hit metals. Once I have a tail bitten off a few times I go to metal... That being said I understand west coast tailor can be much larger and may be a little more fussy...
  9. My first hair tail was 6 ft 2 long....have not got close since...the thing had me a tad nervous trying to get it into the boat...
  10. FININ corrected me via PM his normal boat is a 23 so please ignore my comment. cheers
  11. He will have plenty of food and water and not need to worry about conditions In his 55 ft boat....see earlier posts ..no trailer boat guy here...LOL I've always found big boat owners the most judgemental...
  12. So, If his boat breaks down due to an unexpected electrical problem you don't think he should use an epirb if he has no power on the boat?? Just a reminder that radios don't without power...I was in a similar situation 50 km out and like him pulled the pin and came home with yellowfin at the back of the boat...turned out to be a worn wire for me.. I also doubt very much he would get fined if he has lost all other communications but maybe you are an expert on this...run out of fuel and yes fine them!
  13. Hi, Not really sure how you can call it for a Jew when you did not see it....it could have been a foul hooked Ray...just trying to get you to sleep tonight!!!
  14. Thanks for the memories. Fished it 25 years ago and had some fun. You should hit the Grose river as well, always did better there...fly works well in that shallow water and little gutters on the edge with short casts anyone can do it... A little Colo story from back in the day...some mates i knew were fishing it and noticed a pump line and followed it up to a special plant set up!!!
  15. You've seen a few bosses come and go, you must be doing something right!!
  16. Hi mate, Did you work at the Drummoyne tackle shop by any chance..you look familiar..
  17. Hope the boat was under towing weight for his car...insurance companies will look for any way to avoid to pay!!
  18. Well done! It reminds me of my first boat a broker 4.5...that boat caught so many harbour fish and inner reef fish...was so easy to handle/launch and maintain...now I have a 6m galeforce that hardly gets used!! Might sell it and go back to the old days I think,,, Cheers
  19. Hi, Drummoyne is good but the section around harbour bridge can be the roughest water of the day!! Parking is also limited if you get there late. When I had a smaller boat the ramp up the back of lane cove river in the bay was handy. it is shallow, and steep but my Subaru handled my 4.5m tinnie no problem at all. On weekends I would always opt for Roseville from my place at East ryde...just use the 4k zone to rig up etc... Cheers
  20. Hi, Buy a new one. Douse it in INOX. Then get a small Plano dry box and drill a hole for tube. Won't clip to bucket so run a longer hose. If you need to carry it full then strap to lid of bucket...can keep spare batteries in box as well... Cheers
  21. Do the Botany Bay water police do the harbour as well??
  22. Logged in to check out the pics...worth the effort great capture. Amazes me the fight to the death attitude that is ingrained in some of the bigger predators in the sea....
  23. I think dodgy metals/chemicals In the sediment is the problem just like the parramatta river...
