  1. 30 kg wahoo is insane...the first run must have had the reel smoking. Fish of a life time for sure. I guess motto for second day was "wire trace is good!!!!!"
  2. Mate, For bream and bass you don't need anything expensive. You will fight them with your palm./fingers./hand. Seriously don't go over board as most of the time you won't even get to backing for those species. Fly lines you are going to get stung though....summer time was a floating for bass and for bream an intermediate...
  3. Ok, with 4 on board we would run 8 lines. Generally our lead lines or downriggers lines when they came along more often had flashers as they were deeper. But these were a tad larger than a Celtic blade. Two flat lines off boat then the rest off planer boards. Pretty much tassie Devils with flouro beads and mono straight through as no braid then!! Shit I am old!! RApalas painted to spotted dog worked well at certain times of year. I can't remember what we use to troll that we used a plastic keel in front to stop line spin. Have to ask old man.....
  4. I won ( my team) the bundy cup one year!!! May have shared water back then....use to,go up to island bend and collect those worms...killer bait. My old man still has the electronic trigger rod holders we use to use....
  5. Hi, Back in the day we would tie a fly of choice to the tassie devil hook which was often hit. Also used mini cowbell set ups at the front...spinner blades on a wire to attract fish. Not sure if any of this is being used these days.. Cheers, brent
  6. Well done Paid $55 a kilo for flathead fillets last week!!! What we use to call it was the flathead drift of shame, may need to be renamed!!!!
  7. Good one, A real mature response. Looking at your other posts I guess unless a fish is deemed magazine worthy it escapes the flash of your camera? I believe tailor have suffered as a result of the kingfish protection and resurgence. Back in the 90s when LBG fishing we would regularly send out big tailor but we noticed over the years into the 2000s they seem to have become rarer in waters shared by our kingfish population. The healthy resurgence of Australian Salmon also could be a factor. I find it interesting how often small tailor get caught compared to small Kings and the survival rate must be taken into account. When I took part in a survey the results of fish lip hooked to mouth hooked was amazing. Any hook past the lips resulted in death. Tailor just try to chop and consume. Anyway great to see some old school pics and some stories that I also can connect with.....Not saying they have not been caught as I have pics of them but not recently... Maybe I should post a pic of my 7 foot hair tail or my 63cm bass, 52cm bream or 96cm snapper Jon???
  8. OK, So I said my piece. if someone can post a large tailor catch on central coast/ Sydney region in the last year with confirmation including the original poster then I will put together $100 of plastics /metals/game lures etc and send off....
  9. Cracker of a bream especially shore based in that area. I once fished the rock cliff on the southern side of bridge. We experienced a cockroach experience that left us running. There were dozens of them that came out and flying!! Never again...
  10. Jon, 2 tailor at 4kgs on the central coast at this time of year? East coast reference was Sydney up to mid north coast. Consider your neck of woods south coast.
  11. Sorry, But Donna was cool....so unless you are in WA on holiday there are not 4kg tailor on east coast. Yes many years ago a lake with hot water outlet produced some serious tailor and some old timers like me may recall this, but buy a set at scales.... Really lets hold people accountable for what they say on the Internet. That's what I teach the students in my care...
  12. Hi,just wondering if Steve is still around? I worked for him some years ago as a guide. Have a huge collection of tassie Devils and other trout lures from back in the day! Seems you did well. We never fished that deep. We ran lines on downriggers and flat lines on planer boards and lead lines with 3/4on board... cheers brent
  13. As others have said it is a north Coast traveller. Up north we would bag kings and label to check them in batches. From my understanding south kings fetch more cash than north for this reason. Would assume the king farm up the coast is out of danger of mushy.....
  14. Most plastics have some sort of scent in them these days. Buy some EGIMAX and spray your jigs or dip your jigs in plastics scent....will make a difference...
  15. Had a council person out the other day. She let it slip that they take a picture of the tire to see valve cap position to tell if it has been moved. Guess you could take a little jack and rotate when you can't get out!!!
  16. I think he means west of the bridge....
  17. Hi, i have the max and micro chiller bags.. Just keep 2 litre bottles frozen for them. Highly recommend this brand. Yes they are expensive but stay super cold and easy to clean...
  18. The banana myth dates back to when they were stored with other fruits and they caused other fruits to ripen and as a result go off much quicker on the olden days super long voyages.
  19. Good stuff. I have had great success using a blood worm fly ...not sure if on the net but PM me and can send you instructions...
  20. Mark, You would have to be one of the keenest and best fly fishos around. Are you still harassing the local king population? Might see you on the water some day. cheers, Brent ....kens mate with the tinnie and now gale force... Back in action now after some time off the water...
  21. Owls always look cranky!! Do appreciate them though...
  22. Can see why you wanted them removed....that is ridiculous how big they are!! Looks a fishing machine!!
  23. Get them off as quick as you can....what boat did you get?? Great to hear it went well....
  24. Also there is another option which I did for snapper. Get some neutral/shallow diving hard bodies then run them on your downriggers to ensure depth is maintained...may not be feasible in shallow water though..
  25. Looks like a great cheap down rigger option to me....flip it obviously and run a livey off top section????
