how did you?? what did you end up doing?? I fish down catherin hill way sometimes but its a bit of a hard slog these days to get anywhere.

does anyone have the surf cams in their favourites list?? I've got it but when I click on it,it always come up with a blank screen and says done on the bottom of the screen thus requiring a re googling I thought I'd ask as I would assume I am not the only one interested in the live surf cams??

I would be very dubious at the moment with rock fishing I would not like to suggest anywhere with the ground swell at the moment if you are new to an area you will frequently fish I'd suggest spending even 1/2 a day watching it the lake would be a much wiser alternative but iether side off the swansea bridge should be good iether side of the low/high water 1hr before 1hr after would be most productive after that there is too much run in the tide and that area could be quite renowned at times for kingfish/jewy's,,have a look into that it's a much safer alternative untill the sea backs off.

Hey mate thats very good this season has started in earnest we too are seeing marlin every trip but I am a little disapointed at this weather at the moment that can make it a little uncomfortable with these large ground swells well I've had a safe and merry xmas thusfar and here we are waiting for new years I would have liked to get a bit of rock fishing in but with these ground swells and the locations I like to visit I've not even bother'd please give my my regards to cpt Mike and am looking very forward to a tipple with the captain and yourself at Port Stephens in weeks to come with the sattelite photo looking good I'd say the good water will be pushing in toward the coast and stay for a while with the direction of the current indicated but with the weeks of cloud cover it has been hard to get a sattelite photo we only have to get get out there and try and as previously spoken about I think we are in for a cracking good time,,Alls best happy new year and see you in 6 weeks at Soldiers Point...Steve.

yes mate I suggest if you have any friends who are butchers to have a look at it for you the quality stone you use is important also if your stone is rubish then your wasting your time everyone knows a butcher somewhere show them and they might show you a tip or 2 a new knife should be easy to sharp if your having problems it might be the way you are going about it..

oh well sounds like it ended up a reasonable day there for the lads out on "Reefmagic" a little unfortunate about loosing such a large critter and alls you can do is speculate at what it could have been we hooked a rather large spearfish whilst out Heatons hill some few weeks ago then the next week got a 75kgtuna on deck at my guess I'd say it could have just been an Xos yellowfin with fin of that calibre around surely there'd be some triple figure 1's swimming about...good work lads but better luck next time with the Honkers.

Hey Damo we fish'd saturday with our regular crew and ventured out to heatons I only saw 1 other boat where we was but there might have been others around we got a long billed spearfish that is rare for Sydney considering they are an Atlantic species but we did get 1 it might of been lost(ha ha)anyway we pulled lures back into Browns and just got pester'd with striped tuna taking our lures but we did see busting up tuna 70-80kilo along the way but very hard to get a bight when they move so quick very distince when they are that size I can't wait for a round or 2 with some fish of that size that will be interesting, it was a big day for us steaming home from Browns I'll give you a call next time we are on the water,your fellow Fisher friend Emu...

what kind of angling will you be doing?? will you still be usings lures or do want to use live baits?? I'd definatly suggest a witchdocter for lure's but advise against 1 for live baits 1stly with live bait you need to see the fish at the teaser and with a subsurface teaser this is very difficult yes teaser's work, a well placed lure spread can be very effective particularly when travelling over open water I have experienced 100%hookup rate with lures even2 weeks ago we whent2from2 in the same day with striped marlin but I've had plenty fall of also and as you rarely go out to browns mountain this doesn't matter the prominent species of Billfish caught of Sydney is Striped marlin and you'll see more of these along the continental shelf anyway,Yes teasers work if your fish'n at a fad or not remember the fish need to be at the fad in the 1st place and if they aint there then your just wasting your time anyway so you'll find yourself moving around a bit any way so why not have lure's out even if your live baiting some times(most times) you need to cover a lot of ground before you get to an area that is worth while having a livebait so why not have lures out some of that water could be quite productive just because theres no bait there does not mean theres any fish remember they are pelagic that means they move around...cheers Buddy let us all know how you go.

Aqua Monsta be patient my friend keep an eye on the sea surface temps and save yourself some travelling time it all looks good here off Sydney with the birds and so forth when the eddy gets closer it will be all good and you won't need to tow your vessel all that way I too am keen for a crack at the tuna I'd like to have a go of JB this year but I'm not going anywhere without looking at the elements first...cheers Emu

if you can tie a snell to the shank of a hook it is the identical knot perfect tying a snell first also refered to as nail knot but are both the same you only need 5-6 wraps this is sufficient for the knot to work...

I'd be keen for 2011 I've fish'd this area in the past including the Kowmung gorge I was in 1/2 a mind for a trip this year these trout are decended from original stocks from prospect 1 of the first hatcheries(the first Ithink) in Australia the nepean once had a healthy trout population and infact even had a population of trout that ran to the sea these fish are a very pure strain aneven pure strain from thier origin due to the isolation and lack of interfearance from stocking if we start organizing now I'll be as fit as a mallee bull come Autum/Winter let me know what you think??

the squid have been good this year when the westerlies clear up the water I got one a few weeks ago about the same size as the one you got in your photo but have got plenty about the kilo mark.I think with all the hatch these fish are feeding on it could be worthwhile gett'n out the flyrod...

most braid does this but if the join not is tied with a double strand in the braid it collars the leader alot better and it will hardly if ever happen you don't need a doube to do this thats up to you all you need to do is just double your braid when tying your joins..

sorry mate I replied before but it never appeared or something went wrong I don't know?? yes I had photo's but my camera ended in a sink full of water I didn't care about the pics of the yellowfin as they wasn't worth taking photo's of cause they was fleas anyway but I was upset I had photos of the different species of whale swimming together and that you don't see very often but I'll ask my friends when I speak next to them what photo's they got..

yesterday(wed6th oct)I took some friends visiting from England(as mentioned in fish'n chat)anyways cause we was shark'n extra berly we did have and out to browns we headed but as there appeared a rather nasty look'n rain storm we decided I'd avoid this and out wide of the canyons we go at the end of the day we had 1 run on a tuna but couldn't be identified we released a blue shark but seen some mako swimming in the trail seen lots of sunfish bluebottles and plenty of humpy's frolicking along with pilot whales that looked quite special and after we disposed of over 40kg of trap pilchards we give it best so's I set a course for "land ho" with stripy lures in tow hoping to provide a little more action for my Barmy buds that I did and managed a double hook up on 2flea yellowfin followed buy another and we did end up with 3flea yellowfin after all but the day had already been good in seeing sharks sunfish and whales with water temp 19+deg a glitter of hope exist's yet but for any tuna but they would want to be bigger than what we seen yesterday my pals had a good day and experienced something they can't back home next time they visit I want to get them a marlin as 3 flea tuna and a blue shark doesn't really cut it for me but I enjoyed giving them a day(that was a millpond I forgot to mention)out anyway and atleast we caught something...

I'll be fish'n with some mates 2mrw that have come from England so's we goin to have a burly but I think it'll be a wait and see maybe a mako maybe we could see a tuna Iknow yellowfin is in the fishshop so's got to be some out there I think the eddy is a little more encouraging from what its been but I think it will be a big stab in the dark but I have 1/2 expectation's for a mako and thats what I'll target but who knows you don't go you won't know and at the end of the day we'll just have to wait and see and all will be revealed...I'll keep you informed

I got my tinny a savage gull I've had since I was about 12yrs old and went for a run up the the nepean river for the first time in over 9yrs I have had the engine serviced though and it went like a gem, a long time since I had done this but these last few years had been a bit hectic doi'n other things, although I did have a cast or 2 I didn't really see a fish or even a sighn but that was 3 weeks ago so's I believe the hear say is some bass have been around since and I will get up again soon to give it another go, but Thursday last week I took my tinny to Lake Lyell for another run, from home its 90minuts to here(lake Lyell)so's it not that long, any way it was good to do this even though I didn't even see a scaric of a trout I'd have said with a good flow of water flowing in from the cox's a majority of the trout could have been up the creek a bit with the fresh flow of water the water level at the lake is lapping the spillway that is great news and with all the growth covered with water I'm keenas to get back up again before it gets really hot with summer and cast amongst the sticks for some rising action amongst the newly covered growth I'll be keeping an eye out for post long weekend reports on both Nepean and central table land areas cause now I've got the bug back with my tinny I'm 42 now and have alot of memories of my youth in that tinny I think its time to add some more...

This is the way to go unfortunatly though this wouldn't enter the heads of anyone in power here as they are green orientated and against fishing anyway.No one is smart enough in goverment to suggest this and it would be an added expense they would say we can't afford but I agree a Ranger is the way to go If we had the law enforcement that could respond to problems like this these fiends could be dealt with accordingly but its not hard to be tidy and I get a certain feeling of satisfaction taking my plastic and rubbish with me I wish others where the same.I recall whilst fishing the outer tubes once witnessing some guys respool an over head and 1st stripping all thier line and leaving it along with the rest of thier crap after they left this is a place I've had penquins run between my feet monofilament fishing line discarded in the environment is a big killer and I hate it people who leave rubbish behind are morons and should be treated as such...

You gotta go back to the shop you bought it and ask them for help thats my advice if they can't show you then thier not worth thier salt I'd suggest using a curado or suchlike with a braking system good reel manufacture's have got this down pat now I grew up Bassfish'n using a baitcaster and can use one blindfolded but I still use a reel with a anti backlash centrifigicual braking system.September is a good time to visit the gulf as its the start of Monsoonal build up and an exiting time to fish are you staying around Wiepa or travelling around??you gotta ask yourself questions what fish do you want to target?? what tackle is suited to target these species??lure size and weight and appropriate tackle to use these lures ie threadline outfits for poppers and lighter lures/soft plastics that are to hard to cast with a bait caster/overhead. Figure this out and take it from there other advice is to practice practice practice and use what you feel comfortable with as long as your comfortable thats what counts iether it be mono or braid baitcaster/threadline if your happy and feel comfortable then go with that remember once upon a time braid wasn't invented and all we used was mono yes braid is more direct sensitive and in most persons opinions more exiting to use but remember Weipa is a place tackle stores are few and far between so decide now so's you can practice also I'd say without mentioning the obviouse take a few outfits I visited Weipa October 05 and took very limited personal Items as most my freight was tackle thats not to say I lived like a grub I just washed clothes every night or so I took socks to prevent sunburn insect repellant nice light long sleeved shirts hat polaroids a small medical bag with headache tabs antigastric meds you never can be to carefull in a unfamilar environment so's I took every precaution to make sure it was a good trip and it was an unforgettable trip with 1or2 memories that will stay with me forever.Good luck have a good time practice your casting iether way you'll catch fish...

Nanook I to have fished this area between 1990-97 I've also done the narrow kneck track but have also used the 6 foot track and the track through the megalong I'd go a bit later though about june through to september when the fish are a bit more prominent but you did have to be prepared for extreme weather that can happen snow high winds ans so on probably the best trips was the one's when I crossed the cox's at the kowmung junction and walked up Mt cookem and south along the ridge of the Scotts main range from here along the ridge I'd venture along the kowmung gorges that can be deep in places but also quite wide in others I think one place I'd stayed was the new yards and another was bran jans hill a site of an old coach exchange from here you could go down to a gauging station on the Kowmung its been 13years since last I visited this wilderness but I dare so much would not have changed in that time but a bit more rainfall would be an incentive to get back down there may be I will after boot camp at the local gym!! well done on your effort as I know how epic it can be..
