  1. One off the best things when crewing is when it all pays off an seeing the happy people full with jubilation at the end of the day and as I accompanied the good captain Glenn Hunter as crew I know these guys had much jubilation at the end off both these days with most these fella's been first time anglers I'm certain they'll be hooked now but I was lucky you got Crissy to fill my shoes for me or I'd of missed out god bless you Crissy I'm so gratefull and gratefull to crew with Glenn on the On Site them 2 days most these fish averaged 100kg plus and the 5 blacks we got was in this size range as well so they all gave good tussle I recall when you skippered the Absolute an got mr Hurbert a personal best certainly Rob would be full of the same praise for Glenn I hope we get invited back on the Absolute this year so we can do it again only better off now to enjoy a crowny or two and sleep after a busy few days.
  2. What relief knowing the marlins are about we got the that first for the season back in early october on the Broady seen five since and 4 at the weekend 3swam straight under the two flats then later on a tiny little thing with its little bill poking out had one shot at the left rigger swam over an added another two shots at the right rigger but the hooks on the larger lure's I was running had a bigger gape than the bill it was only small for a marlin might have been a spear fish I think that was the first seen from billfisher so thats 10 wer've seen including the caught one between broady and billfisher thus more than this time last year the serious fishing is upon us fellow fishermen well done on the angling and fish caught at the weekend.Cheers for beers at christmas and a happy new year to us all we will meet again somewhere on the Tasman sea in the new year untill then farewell the Emu.
  3. I've seen this attitude with people myself the kind of brain dead drones us people with a little earnest's should not need to put up with at this moment or ever did you have a camera phone?I'd have inconspiculously dobbed. Fisheries can search without warrent any premise vessel or vehicle all they need for a conviction is evidence that would stand in front of a magistrate i.e photo's can not be disputed these clowns deserve a fine and knowdought the bofins commonly practice this if you see them again dob the (badword)!! purpertraiters in
  4. I would support a marine park if allowed angling rights still we already adhear to restrictions and limits with the use of high carbon hooks that deplete within days and catch and release with circle hooks but these parks would have to have a purpose i.e seagrass protection or release of particular specsified species (no take)not just any willy nilly reason without founded reason we don't want to curtail to these guys just for the sake off amicable relation if they use thier ad hoc opinionated consensus reprior I'll fix bayonets at these guys.
  5. I'm not a stickla or kill joy but I'd be a very reluctant to go to open sea in a vessel that small and maybe you should put some thought into acquirering a vessel more capable of venturing offshore of atleast 5.5 to 6 meter in length having been in seas from flat to 15feet plus mother ocean will have what it wants the time of year these species are targeted is a time of year local weather systems(ie storm fronts)cannot be precisely predicted within only a couple of hours form fine to very bad you could get weather from hell and been offshore against tide current and wind combined in a tinny is a death warrant consider your electrics do you have bilges VHF radio 27meg and epirb all I'm suggesting is have a good think and remember the paramount of safety.

    Bimini Twist

I'd use a double in braid for twisted or notted dog loop to loop leaders but for single strand leaders I tie a snell to snell I've found this works fine for me double or no double no I think they aren't really needed except for loop to loop leaders but others may beg to differ
  7. Yes Roberta this is typical off the coffee shop yuppies that the people of this type are trying to pull just looking at the poll it is a overrwhelming NO vote I hope I don't offend any person's with my coffee shop remark I might be prone to a short black myself but these tree hugging whale watching enviro nazi's are just boffins that don't have any real clue I see Clover Moore had a piece in last weeks paper about how good the sanctuary would be Clover Moore should be worried about the urban run off plastic bags in the harbour and her party balloons that go on to choke to death every marine vertebrae that mistake them for food.Every major retail store has a tackle store in some way or another I need not go into that but we need only take a lookaround and see whats there I've made the point before we are in the MILLIONS we far outnumber them so why is it coming to this I know Stewy has mentioned no political agender tolerated here but the bottom line is the current power in NSW look to the green vote to stay in power if they lost office the greens won't have any way the sway they get now and any zone in the future won't be implemented on ad hoc consesus hear say opinion but founded on research done on a non bias manner and we will be still allowed recreational angling inside marineparks I'd like to see an overall poll of opinion I'd be surprised if it was any different to these results.Cheers good luck backfish'n while we still can!!
  8. I would be dammed if I'd give these balloon heads anything you need only look at areas already made marine parks but even in zones we can't go pro's carry on as per normal that just adds to the ludrickry off it so that I agree with give the boffins an inch and they'll take a mile and why curtail to these clowns when all they have to justify is formulated opinion and thier own hear say this npa would not know a problem in the piscatorial world if it bit them on the bum I bet a better half of them still use plastic bags for shopping.I've made the point ealier with the populas of the current state powers at hand all this would be is a last ditch effort to retain power and on that after the mini budjet I believed we where in the red cancelling the kids bus pass's and the like so how can NSW afford the millions to implement this!!?
  9. Cheers Stewy I do note there seams to be 2 forums on this at the momement in this section in relpy to Mrs swordy I've just got todays paper and it seams to be agreed on we did not object to zones wich had undergone proper scientific study I've said before of these peoples arogance and no regard for other people and the popularity matter with this current goverment whom may well use this as a last ditch vote grab I say Stewy we organize a meeting invite members from all forums find prominent people willing to voice against this and establish numbers to show this current goverment what they will be up against Mr Reese has already trud on toes I need not go into that and they would be on thin ice as is they can can not conclusivelly state with facts research and study any fundamental reason they can prove why this can go ahead and it needs to be voiced what a farce this all is but all the while keeping composed cool calm and collective I know Cpt Ross Hunter and Mr John dunphy will be meeting with the shadow goverment it will be nice if we can give them a kind of indication of support.I'm of the opinion with thier evidence based on formulated opinion any Magistrate worth his salt would overturn any decision made and any decision made in the future in respect to sanctuary zones I'm of the belief ther've Ignored real problem with the ocean and estuary's i.e Tuna stocks i.e siltation protecting mangrove you get my drift.Bob Carr causedmore damage in one week in the bush than 1004wld would do in 20 yrs Bulldozing the tracks to keep them out lets not curtail to these nogooders and let them get thier greedy way.Cherio for now untill the next devlopment
  10. You look at this on a pound for pound basis and tackle used different species have their own characteristics as I crew for cpt Ross Hunter I'd say pound for pound striped marlin go pretty hard we use 24kg line on average it takes 20-40 minutes to land a 65-70kg stripe but we have fought these in the 120kg range for much longer but the 3 species we encounter have their own different characteristic way of fighting so it is difficult to compare certainly a big Blue will be most explosive and just charge into the distance with no choice but to just chase it down amid a rush of water coming of the pressure wave over the transome my view is how does any other angling compare to that?
  11. Geez pal for the price of a stella buy a tld 50 the perfect reel to live bait of the rocks spooled iether 15or24kg I would avoid using braid for Lbg 1stly it dosn't have the same abrasion resistance of mono 2ndly its expensive I would look around if you want a threaline to use in the habour still and get a saragosa and you can use this for spinning from the rocks and in the harbour the cost of both these reels would buy one stella but look around first and find a good deal.
  12. I'm not against marine parks but when they are founded on consensus no research and they fail to address genuine issues I think there is a problem now when they show us the research whom performed it the problem been adressed and how a sanctuary will benifit if they want marine parks put it 200nautical mile offshore and beyond where they can really benifit what are they trying to protect? red mowrong? 97.5% of the species in these zones are migratory these are just pig headed people with no respect for anyone else what are they trying to protect?seagrasses grey nurse shark white pointers tell me all of witch will make no difference in any of these areas. These people cause more detriment and thats the bottom line what?5000members of the npa we far outway them in numbers we are in the millions let our voice be heard yes we need sanctuary for our piscatorial life but based on informed matter data and collected research done without bias or preference to who governs our state.Wer've got the rest of the world fishing our international watersdue to the fact of thier own water been fished desertless now tell me who is addressing that?these clowns are arrogant ignorant and would not now a problem in our ocean if it bit them on the backside.
  13. Well if this is not a green vote grab I don't know what is this is what I've just sent in reply to the hawksbury region to <dp.office@tebbett.minister.nsw.gov.au> I'm at a lost to believe this will be considered you people use ad hoc hear say consensus reports to justify sanctuary zones but fail to address any real matter in marine biodeversity.I suggest you people have a hard look at the retail fishing industry in NSW ***** bigW rebels a shop JILLLNNL;s BCF just to name a few and begin to understand just how many toes will be trud on and the commercial sector with Mr Rees slashing in this state will another buyout be considered or will commercial guys just be granted permission to continue as/nomal only adding to the absurb ludickry off all this. This will be one of many issues that will add to this current goverments downfall so go ahead go for the extreme green vote and watch it bite you on the backside. That is what I sent today we need to approach the shadow goverment about this and we should do it now put our case forward and fight this all the way.
  14. I find it dissapointing of what has taken place already that is they implement these zones justified using consensus reports I'm at a loss to say no amount of objection iether written or verbal will alter the current goverment view the fact here is it's a green oriented goverment and with current popularity rates they will look for this green orientation to stay in power now on saying this it is in my eanest's I believe this it's self can be thier downfall there was no amount of real research undertaken there is no 10page dosier in point form out lining the need for sanctuary zones founded by science only the consensus reports so what I'm saying here is people need only be made aware of this and the real problems that there've ignored you see most people think its great (most people I mean people that don't know other wise unfortunatly to us that would be the consituants of this state)to see these sanctuarys but if we can show them really they have been deceived lied to denied the truth and ripped off of thier money then we might sway some minds to see our way all in all it is very sadening seeing it happen again these are extreme greens and they cause more detriment to the enviroment than they do good if we don't get on top of this it will just go ahead.
  15. Cliffton gardens Mrs Macquaries chair & the light at Bradly's head are places slimy can be caught but I think there aren't many about yet.
  16. One must think about how one would have used these sien nets firstly the heavy boats secondly they where rowed so as to assume it was carried out in a manner that it was done quickly would be a reason not to catch fish just picture this happening the splashing the haste the commottion alone rowing these heavy wooden boats would have scared the fish of you must also take into account what these early colonists thought edible they thought the lump on snapper was a cancerouse growth so anything big was thrown away.To say the abunduncy of what was in our past was what not what one might think I'd say one would be a little bit ignorant or just naive one would only need to visit any off the gamefish clubs to see what was once was (I'm reffering to Sydney clubs i.e Sydney Pt Hacking and so forth)I could not in my wildest dreams imagine what the fishing was like at the time of the first fleet.!!
  17. You do well on them blackfish Rossco particularlly when I'm not there soon we'll be to busy for any blackfish'n when the gales stop and we can fish every day we can.I'd like to finish this year with some of the fish like we caught back earlier in the year we would have caught 200 tuna easy this season whilst you was away in april an I crewed with Glenn we caught 85 alone most in the 40kg plus bracket but then the gales came since that first gale it quite never came back that good but we did have our moments with a flurry here and a flurry there and hopefully another flurry right around the corner we hope.
  18. To add a reply 1stly the pros can expect nothing cause it ain't gunna happen 2ndly the matter of feeding farmed fish? What about farmed food it would be local and carry no bio problems as it is local(how good are farmed prawns? good enough for us humans to eat)and3rdly wild fish? other than brood stock there is no revellance to fish caught in the wild firstly as in the circumstance I'm talking about these species(Kingfish)would be made a rec only species in the bio zone in question but I must add these fish are migratory fish.Fish tagged of the Sth coast NSW have been recaptured in New Zealand and it is known they do trans Tasman voyagers so what I'm saying here is what is the point making a rec haven when 120 mile down the road these same fish can be caught add hoc any old how I guess the bottom line is the overall management buy our fisheries powers to be I was mearly stating what I've read here on this forum and put forward I think an idea that would work adjacent to our Hawksbury region people can argue till they turn blue about what we should and shouldn't do but untill we can muster the fish and put through a crush to count it is obviouse to anyone that has spent any time on the water in the last 40-50 years that there is a real peril in our oceans that needs addressing all I've done is put an idea forward that would help address this peril and help bring a fishery back to what it use to be.
  19. it be I emu here last years northern waters was one I wont forget on the maritimo and Clintons Blue about 190kg I think Ross correct me if I'm wrong but I can't forget that jacketed line it was amazing we got that fish we will kick but with the simrad this year looking forward to some deep baits.
  20. I can recall some girls come fish'n with us for tuna as aday out before her wedding that might sound funny but it was a good day spent catching fish all day scroll through Ross Hunters site from last season there might be some pictures I think. We have had some bucks before what a better way to spend as afree man than to go catch a marlin.Cheers the Emu
  21. Having read through this forum I would assume a general consensus among the members would be in making more rec only areas particularly pittwater in the lower hawksbury for this to happen it would need another buyout and the way funding is in NSW it aint going to happen Fisheries need to be lobbied about this why can't licence fees be used for this. The commercial guys need an actractive offer and training for a new career that is acceptable for them to take.My view is with aquaculture in both the hawksbury an Botany Kingfish are a fish that can be farmed sucessfully and done on a scale that would suffice the market I can't see why it would'nt make sense for what the dollar is worth to the rec fish industry to the local areas involved lots more fish means lots more money and after all these same commercial guys that fish these places now could instead look after the running of these fish pens or holds however it is done that way they stay on the water they stay happy and we can't cry about decimation of wild stock any more.Fishfarming is the way of the future no matter what the argument is if they don't start now when will it ever start its already done on a small scale in Botany so why have we not not learned from this endeavour its still there so it must be sustainable someone must be making something out of it I wish all fish that went to market had been bred in aquaculture you only have to look at the tackle shops to see the worth in rec fishing grrrrrrrr+_+_) Rebel BCF BLAH BLAH BLAH a shop the list goes on and these are major retailers so the money does the talking here, that is why I think why not fund aquaculture with fee money? The way Nathan Rees is going he'll be using it inapropriatlly soon with nothing to do with fishing they probably do that anyway. But I could yarp forever about what I think I think I make good sense does anyone beg to differ?

  24. That is fair for a kingy have you caught ones in the bay like that before? its good to see larger fish about lately as I crew on broadbill I see a few fish from time to time and for Sydney it is a good fish but I can recall that once opon a time you would move from such fish because they were annoying as these fish will get to and over 30kg and as a kid dad would often bring back fish over 40pd or so from the peak its taken a long time for them to get over their decimation of the floating traps and I'm hoping to see the day we see 25kgplus kings again off Sydney but untill that day arrives fish like yours will do it is well done to pull one like this from the shallow water in the bay you must off had some drag on your threadline we use the same reels on Broady.
