  1. I know this is something lots of people have interest in I see some of us have disscussed this already(game fishing grape vine)Wer've been dictated too buy an organization not even in our hemisphere but yet longlining persiening and drop lining is been carried out in the indopacific oceans at an alarming rate and been ignored at a federal level by an international fleet that has already raped the northern hemisphere but they worry about us poor simple fisherman capturing a dozen sharks a year and what about the shark nets?? how many do they kill protecting our beaches??this is a bad decision that won't rest well with many people...thats all I know
  2. I can't tell you for certain but I heared wispers also if this is the case this will put an end to shark fishing in nsw I say its a dumb act to follow if thats so I mean we can help with tagging and so fourth but what damage do we do when wer've got the worlds fleet demolishing stocks in the IndoPacific because ther've fished out the Norhtern hemisphere as seen on a certain Sunday night programme a few weeks ago this is alarming I can tell you ban or no ban game fishing days are limitted if this keeps up...cheers Emu
  3. Good to see reports from across the globe Jani you remember me your decky from your time aboard the "Broadbill''I'm certain those memories will last a while. We have rainbow brown brook and some hybrid species they've devloped and atlantic salmon I've caught some of the best trout I've ever caught in the river close to home at Penrith but they no longer inhabit the river as its to inhospitable for thier survival so's its a drive over the mountain or down the snowys or a flight down to Tasmania or New Zealand but I wont have the time for that now untill summer's past and I might get down Tasmania for some flyrodding August september maybe next year..good to see you posting keep us all informed of your adventures I find it provides something a little different.Cheers Emu....

    Frog/ Cane Toad

keep it for a pet if it grows and grows its a cane toad if stays the same size I'd guess its not but I'm surprised np cant tell you alls those years at uni and they cant even tell the difference between a frog or a toad...I worked in waste disposal for many years often we'd find little frogs amongst waste usually from fruit shops so's theres a chance it could be a cane toad that hitched a ride in some produce wait and see if it grows..
  5. what situation do you want it for lure?bait? you can tie a sliding snell for a 2 hook rig if you just want 2 hooks or do you want to tie another hook onto the barb of another hook?? that can be done again with a snell but if you want it for bait that limits the distance where you can put the 2nd hook you would be better of with a sliding snell rig with 2 single hooks then you can vary the distance between the 1st and 2nd hook thus be able accomadate different bait sizes.
  6. No I've not heard of any yellowfin at all latelly I think knowing where the tuna was is like knowing next weeks lotto numbers I've noticed an absence of yellowfin in the local fish market of late seems to be always albacore but so's must be some fish somewhere I'm hoping we could get a flurry as the currents kick a bit more toward summer with that 20-22degree water and maybe some marlins aswell.I know the other week we got stripy tunas all day probably 50kg or more of fillets in one day all salted for future use as bait they was really very prevallent and we haven't stopped catching them an if we go that little wider we still get them some have been 5+kilo real honkers for stripy tuna. But no yellowfin rare as hens teeth had a flurry early in the season hope'n for a flurry late in the season...
  7. just asking is anyone been doing any bass fishing at the nepean of late and hows the river fish'n??
  8. Try a small saltwater fly in blue pilly patern or tiny crome slices and wind quick...
  9. Sorry to hear she's gone now Mitch I'm sure whoever purchased her will be happy but 20hrs is very little in18months an I spose the cash is always handy I guess you can always fish with us I know the Marourbra lads are returning once more( I love those lads)but maybe you got other ideas with things on at the moment I don't know I still look at Maryannes marlin sometimes on youtube and I love that music I know Ive posted it other place's on the internet and people just say thats awsome.Anyways it was a lovelly boat an knowing the way I felt when dad sold his pride montego in the late 90's he bought new in1977 I near cried I wish I had that boat now they are sort after for project boats and it still had the sheen from new even after all those years but time heals these thing and we get over it.Hears to ya EMU...
  10. I can't remember ever catching stripys like that all the way and back to inside the shelf wer've had days that we got numbers of them but that was stripy mayhem we got 5:1on the purple to the pink feather that I thought was strange due to it been overcast pink normally is a better colour with cloud cover but there you go you know what thought did don't you?? stripe tuna frenzy great with wasabi personally wierd to some it may seem I prefere stripy raw over any other tuna and raw is the only way I'll eat striped tuna but I'd rather be feeding them to the marlin than people.Hate this crappy weather but atleast its washed the dust away make for an interesting final this arvo go the EELs...
  11. Well one nearlly got a piggy the other sunday I'm sure I could live bait one or rig it to swim but it would would be hard gett'n it of the poor dig that caught it such a good table fish but if we started loosing reef fish to marlin I guess we'd just marlin fish in my bones I can feel a good start to the marlin fish'n already time will tell and all will be revealled...
  12. new motors for a new season after seeing the marlin chase up a pig fish last week off Stanwell park fish'n with cpt Glenn Hunter on his Billfisher(that looked like a black in 15deg water!!) gives me even more incentive to try for that first for the season again it was almost exactly 12 months ago we got the first for the season last year if we can do it again this year I'll be very happy but that depends on gett'n out an having a go I've got some ideas I want to try with switch baiting this season based around how we got some fish last year with some spectacular strikes on baits right on the transom we managed quite well with numbers toward the end there with some few of these providing quite visual and exiherating displays as they where baited as I said within trace length at the transom with 2 new cummins Iknow they'll be doing some heavy duty hummin this season I'm not one to wish time away but come on summer I say!!!...
  13. As a professional crewman in the last 2yrs I've traced &released well over 200 marlins most stripes a few blacks and blues up to and over 500pound all on 24kg tackle the majority on live baits some on skirted lures honestly I can say all fish was livelly and appeared vibrant when released but for a few tail wrapped that we swum untill revived untill healthy enough to swim away. The vessels I crew on are purpose built for gamefishing and skippered buy extremely experienced marlin captains thus so our fish are caught with minimum fuss I know we could not achieve these numbers on lighter line class(not saying we couldn't catch the fish)I'm saying the prolonged fightimes to a point that the marlin can be released is shortening time spent in a days fishing and other guys chances of having a go on strike the skipper could well very easy just backdown hard on top of the trace in seconds but whose getting the thrill here?I know oLe skipp doesn't want a tonne of water over the transom each time we back down scaring the pants of the anglers and its just not angling letting the quarry have fair game I feel its really very menial for just a trophy and I don't care what people argue light line class is bad for the wellbeing of the marlins I know what I know from hrs on the water from june2007 to now is over 3700hrs.I've no problem with light line class but to put it into rules and a situation that to be competative everyone will do it is a dissregard in my opinion for the species but if you was going to dong the marlin use whatever line class you like not that I condone killing them after all they are a food source but it is a bad example to set if we killed every marlin we caught. These are a valuable resource and everyone cried foul each time the annihilation the longliners dump in the markets down the south coast so whats the difference here? they will get tailwrapped they will drown from trailing vast amounts of line and carcasses will litter our grounds these guys would not use 6kg for jewies so why use for it marlin come on fellas is the personification really worth the greater wellbeing of our sport..?
  14. Yes it was a tad chilly and we did do well at 30+$$$/kg for Ozzy snapper that was well over 200bucks worth of reddies the fella's caught and big bluey rubberlips aswell better scenery down that way than the mountain makes it even all the more worthwhile I say..Heres to ya Emu.

    Berly Trails

I'm glad some of you fella's are like minded as myself and witnessed these berly fiens in action as I crew almost weekly we get it happen on a not to unregular basis an I know people know full well what thier doing when they do it all I ask where can I purchase a megahaler or loud speaker I've been looking in sport stores but cant find one this all I wan't to vent my frustration at them and tell them "get the F(bad word) out of my slick and buy your own pillys" and what cheap skates they are it is a joke and is in epedemic out there a lot of guys really have no etiquette or lack respect for other people I'm not saying every one does it but a lot do and if anyone knows where I can get a portable loud speaker let me know...

    Berly Trails

Can't some people afford to buy thier own pillys? so they just decide to aimlessly drift in someone else's trail or are these fiends just obliveint with no nouse of common sense its a big ocean out there but you'll always get some clown go right up the trail and pull up within 100meters why is this so?? or the motorised drift I've seen that not once not twice but a 1000times etiquette needs to be exercised iether buy asking over radio contact or pulling up way way ahead but moreoften than not an invitation will be sent to come join a slick once fish are there I really am tired of it and these boffins need to be educated...
  18. The solution? bag out by all means please don't hesitate but the problem we have here is for any one that may spend time on the water and has witnessed a frenzy feeding on hatch is I think there aren't adequate pelagics to eat the little buggers when they hatch thats why we have the sharks eating the bait so close inshore now cause there is just lots of it (bait)let the pelagics get up to school size where they was 25-30year ago we can again catch 200lb tuna at the peak again 80lb kingy's in the harbour oncemore the leather jacket hatch would be bought in line and we could live hapilly ever after. But thats just what I think maybe just maybe it could be another reason..
  19. I hope we keep catching the little buggers but they can be a bit fiesty on 80lb tackle with 450lb trace targeting the big blues but a welcome bycatch makes it interesting on the trace poor Broady we only painted it the day before now its all billwacked again. With a 100% hookup rate last few trips on the single hook I have to ask myself why use anything different? cheers Emu..
  20. I see the funny side
  21. Though it's good to read and absorb information the most valuable lessons are gained from getting on the water as I crew on cpt Ross Hunters Broadbill often people come with us to see how its done before setting out on thier own I strongly suggest doing so as Ross has 1-2 spots for late January and the same for march this is an opportunity that if you where serious about catching marlin to absorb real lessons not just read about it I've fished with the Hunter lads 10 years now and learnt what I know from the crews on the Broady and Billfisher look at the reports Ross wrote in game fishing reports this is the fishing you can experience buy getting on board with us but hurry if you decide you want do this as time waits for no man and it will save you going down the trial and error road use the info on fishraider to contact cpt Ross if your interested.

    All Wrapped Up

Your vessel is going to blend well with the water with that blue it will be hard to see untill photo's show it did you decide on a down rigger yet Greg?As you'd probably read about the marlins we got on the "On Site"no doubt you will be biting at the chaff to get up there we got all but a few of them with livies and the all but a few on skippers still waiting for the shots Rossco will update his report when they are e-mailed and you will see what I'm talking about with the water get up the Sally Shores and join me for for a Bundy whilst you are in Port look forward to that see you then.
