  1. Nice going. With a catch rate like that I am not surprised there were heaps of fisho's. The word has probably gotten out amongst the locals gav
  2. Nice going Woodchop! Isn't it funny how you can be fishing one spot for no downs, move spots and then have them going off their heads......I guess that's all part of the art of black fishing. Well done on the solo effort gav
  3. Nice catch...photo's like that just make you want to get out there gav
  4. The reason I use a fluro carbon trace is because it makes the line invisiable to the fish. You can get a decent trace line for around $15 and it will last you for months (depending on how you fish that is). I find a metre trace allows the bait to appear "more natural" in the water. My experience has been I have a better chance of a bite with a trace this long. Regarding the beach, it really depends. Once you know how to identify a gutter, your catch rate will improve as this is where the fish sit. I love beach fishing but I am still only learning the ropes myself With Maroubra beach if you park at the North End you are slightly elevated and get a good view of the beach, I normally identify the gutter from there and then head down to my spot. If you have any further questions fire away and I will do my best to answer them gav
  5. That's a cracking fish there Ray congrats gav
  6. Nice fishing - Stan please upload the pics If I had to take a guess I would say he was fishing the stake at North maroubra
  7. I have caught blackfish off the beach at the northern end of coogee. Use a ball sinker down to a swivel with a 8lb fluro carbon trace of about 1 metre. Use a size 6-8 hook. You can collect weed or cabbage off the rocks near there. Fish for them on the run up to high tide. Coogee also fishes well for whiting - use live bloodworms. You can get these from Global Tackle at Kingsford If you can make it around to Maroubra beach you will have a better chance of wrestling with bigger fish like Salmon & tailor. The beach is more open and you can get get a good gutter. If I had to pcik between Maroubra or Coogee I would choose Maroubra every time gav
  8. Great report Reading that just make me want to get out there... nice pics - that ledge looks very familiar gav
  9. I can vouch for that - he definately knows is stuff. I was fortunate enough to fish with him and his Dad at the same time - now that was a wealth of information the first time out we got 80+..and that's no joke gav
  10. Great Stuff It doesn't get much better than that! your kids look like they are having a blast. gav
  11. Nice fishing Ray I can't wait til the end of next month - Harday's Bay will be on my doorstep I have seen the light.....I am moving to the central coast gav
  12. Little Greeney would have to be one of my favourite ledges - combine a late arvo high tide and a 1-1.5m south swell and you are in witha good chance of getting into a few gav
  13. Thanks again for the day Royce - with Fijian inlaws fresh fish nevers goes astray - I am very popular at the moment. I have to say though in the right conditions you can't beat fishing form the stones as the sun comes up. By the way Royce, those beers went down a treat, when I got home... until next time gav
  14. Once again thanks for the day Royce - you can't beat good mates and a fish The afterwards was good also. Luckily what that the photo doesn't show was that I dropped that one at my feet until next time gav
  15. Wouldn't it be nice to finish a day's work like that everyday Well done gav
  16. Top fish ! Can I ask as a fighting fish how do you find them? I have found them to be a bit sluggish but I have never got a 4kg one though. Also how do you cook them? My dad has been talking about getting up there for a camp and a fish for sometime - it's nice to see there is a bit of water too gav
  17. Ok everyone here's the deal. I am camping at Norah Head over the weekend, and will be fishing Soldiers Beach. Has anyone had any luck fishing this beach lately? I have nvere fished it before. My target species will be bream & tarwhine and tailor (if they are still around). the high tide is just on dark, so hopefully there will be a few fish aorund thanks in advance for any tips gav
  18. Between the knowledge of Rick & Royce I think there is a book in there somewhere "Sydney Harbour blackies - how where and when by Royce & Rick" nice catch once again Rick gav
  19. That's great fishing - I love fishing for trevally - they go hard for their size and tast great gav
  20. Mostly I use prawns . If you shop around you can get them fairly cheaply. If you are at Bronte and don't want to travel too far try Coles or Woolies, they sometimes have banana prawns for $14kg (sometimes they are cheaper). But your best option is to get up early and go to Flemington markets. Here you can get quality prawns for $10kg. Buy a heap and split them up and freeze them. I find a kg usually lasts about 3 hrs when fishing for pigs Bread is also good I have never used gulp baits for pigs hope this helps gav
  21. Nice report Rick - that water has got some nice colour to it ! It looks a lot better than what it did 2 weeks ago Sunday was a shocker for the whether - 4 seasons in one day or what? all the best gav
  22. It is quite at the moment - my Dad fished 2 different spots around Gladesville and 1 spot at Drummoyne spot on saturday for 1 dropped fish and 1 other down. I am sure they are there somewhere - it is just finding them that is the tricky part Hey Woodchuck I am keen to see that underwater photo gav
  23. Nice going Rick! You can bring that theory back if you want I fished Clarkes Point on Monday for NIL - I could not even manage a down - i tried all the way along the wall at varying depths - spoke a another fisho that turned up and he said that they were there last week..aarrrgghh - that westerly was freezing though Normally if I haven't got a fish in 2 hours I move to another spot but with the kids, it was too much effort - all in all I had a great time but the fish forgot to turn up gav
