  1. Nice going. So what did it taste like? Sounds like an interesting recipe. I have always given the ones I catch away, but maybe I need to start keeping them. gav

    Squidding

Bare Island - off the bridge or along the rocks into the bay gav
  3. Nice flatties boys. You definately can't beat local knowledge whne it comes to where and when to get into them gav
  4. That's a great report. It looks like you had some fun. Fishing the rocks would have to be one of my favourite ways to fish. I will warn you now, if you start fishing for blackfish too much, you will become addicted. I know I am gav
  5. Gret catch I wish my first time fishing a spot was that fruitful gav
  6. I have had luck off the breakwall at Bellambi. You can fish off the ocean side with prawns or pilly tails and a bread berley and you should get trevally, bream etc. You are up off the water a few metres so you will need a rod that can lift a fish this distance. If it's a big swell then fish the calmer side facing back to the houses. The fish come in here for shelter when the swells up. I have also seen blackfish caught off the little jetty there as well,. hope this helps gav
  7. Good to hear from you Royce I am not sure yet, but definately before you get home. Catch you soon gav
  8. Maroubra beach fishes well for the usual species - salmon, tailor, bream, whiting, blackfish Find a good gutter and throw ganged hooks with a pilly on it If you get it right the nth end fishes well for blackfish - it's no big secret - just head down there look for the where the weed is growing, pick some off the rocks and have a go. As alasdair has mentioned the sth end is great, but it is a rock platform and you need cleats and you need to be careful - fish this in a southerly swell only. So you don't walk all the way out there, park at the nth end on the hill and look across. Another good spot out there is The Blessings - you are high up and it is a safe spot. It can get busy, but if you get there early enough, you can pick your spot. You catch pigs, bream, blackfish etc here. Do a search on this website and you will find out more. yarra bay is good for flatties and it's totally safe Bare Island produces squid at night as does Malabar I have caught blackfish off the beach at nth coogee, but it can be a challenge to fish it in summer. Go early or late to avoid the crowds. You can actually fish Clovelly pool (just not for groper). Give it a go at night when all the crowds have disappeared. On a CALM (i stress CALM) day you can fish Shark Point (this is the point out front of clovelly) - be careful and don't fish this place alone - you can get kingies, bream, trevally, squid, blackfish - etc alasdair i have probably seen you out there - that is one of my favourite rock spots along the eastern suburbs This should get you started. gav
  9. If the charter is a no go what about having a throw off the beaches - surely you would catch! has anyone done this It would be a shane to go to such a noce place and not score a fish or 2 gav
  10. I am booked in for a holiday to Hamilton Island at the end of next month. Whilst there I want to do a charter for the day . Has anyone had any personal experience with the operators up there? If so who would you recommend. Thanks for any advice gav
  11. Hey Royce cracking trout I will definately make it over there before you come home fior a go at them catch you later gav
  12. Fishythings advice is spot on - they are great fun but HOLD ON.. the only thing I would add is I have been shown to fish for them on low tide and on a calm day - this way you can collect your urchins and stand at the waters edge with relative safety gav
  13. That's a great effort to bring a salmon in on blackie gear. It was definately not his lucky day
  14. Top catch The one of the left is a monster Congrats gav
  15. That's looks like a classic reel there Bart. What type is it? I am getting out in the harbour in Saturday - high tides in the arvo, so I will collect my bait early in the morning Last time I didn't even get a down. Lets hope this weekend is a little better gav
  16. Top catch! Salmon are great fun off the beach, especially when they start jumping out of the water once they know they are hooked Do you eat them or release. I have heard fishcakes are great but have personally never tried making them gav
  17. Kings in winter..that was unheard of when they were trapping them a few years back Top catch How good is the weather in August, its warm but you don't get burnt..still I can't wait for summer You can't beat a 6am start off the rocks with the sun coming up gav
  18. Nice catch Freshly smoked tailor tastes awesome gav
  19. Ge Whiz Steve You are on fire at the moment Congrats on the catch Looks like this weekend I will have to be another harbour bash to track down these elusive fish gav
  20. How good is that gutter!! That would have to hold fish for sure. Hey Nudge How long a walk is it from the top car par at garie to Burning Palms? From memory you can camp down there. With summer coming up that would be a top spot for a camp and fish. We use to camp at Garie beach a while back and fish the Nth end rock ledge - you get some great fish there gav
  21. What a great tip I have 2 pair of neoprane boots at home that I will give this a go on - the zips on these babies just refuse to move.... Wish I had this tip 6 months ago. My Abu Garcia bag I use for the rocks has no zippers left..oh well does that mean i have to buy more gear..damn shame that gav
  22. Look for little streams that flow from an estuary slightly inland, as mentioned some ponds hold a good supply as well. Google maps is a great tool to locate these type of things. Some beaches (in the eastern suburbs) hold both cabbage and stringy weed at the end of the beach - this bait works well straight off the beach or in the harbour I have been fortunate enough to have been shown the ropes from a mate (thanks royce aka luderick_angler) and I still feel like a novice chasing places where weed grows can be like trying to work out where the fish are biting - it does take time but eventually you work it out good luck and hope this helps gav
  23. Great effort!! You did a hell of a lot better than mt Dad and I did - i tried several spots in the harbour for not even a "down, and these spots normall produce something. Sunday had a great high tide in the morning, but try telling the fish that
