  1. Nice fishing & photo's Ray. It sure is a great part of the world up there. I am moving to Umina soon, so that will be my new backyard All the best with the housework gav
  2. I agree with Groper. The IQF (individually quick freeze) variety are good. They cost a little more though. If you have the time buy a 2kg bag (about $10), let them thaw out naturally, then salt them down with rock salt. Keep your takeaway containers from your local takeaway place and pack your pillies in these (with the salt) . You can usually fit between 6-8 in a takeway pack. This way you always have good bait at hand and you don't end up wasting half a bag of pillies becasue they turn to mush. gav
  3. Nice fish - although you missed a couple of good ones persistance definately paid off. Most people would have called it a day after the Hawkesbury session and went home for a warm shower, a feed and a nice cold well done gav
  4. That is a top little spot Victor. A fine bread berely and peeled prawns is the go for that spot for sure. And you normally can get the place to yourself. That's a shame if people are abusing Bass Pt though. The fishing around there is awesome. The drummer fishing in the winter months is great. Not only that, the area itself is amazing. gav
  5. Was it good eating?
  6. Nice fish - tarwhine put up a great fight. I tend to find that for the fight they put up they would weigh a lot more. Does anybody else find this the case? I find I get most of mine on dusk or just after dark. gav
  7. If you can get your hands on a good and bad rod - try them both out. You will find out pretty quickly what you do or don't like. Also think about buying 2nd hand - let your local tackle shop know that your wife is starting out. They may know someone who wants to offload a rod or 2. You would be surprised, there a plenty of people out there who are happy to offload good gear just because they simply do not use it anymore. I was given an old kilwell 13ft one piece luderick rod that needed some love - $80 later I have a great rod - (thanks Royce ) all the best gav
  8. I would hate to have been that octopus. They are absolutely savage.
  9. They are good to fish for on calm day when there is little or no swell. This allows you to get closer to the waters edge. The low tide also makes collecting bait easier. Like Kingpin has mentioned HANG ON Get a copy of Alex Bellissimo's DVD on Sydney rockfishing - he gets a 13kg groper. In it he also shows you how to bait up and what gear he uses. It is a great dvd gav
  10. I just don't get it. I have always been taught to watch the water for at least 10-15mins before even starting to fish off the rocks plus all the other usual safety tips Certain ledges should only be fished in certain swells. You can order a free DVD at the below website. It is good on the basics of rock fishing My link gav
  11. You can't beat a day like that? Makes you realize how the simple things matter most. I bet your Dad was excited great post gav
  12. By all reports the harbour is looking great for winter Good going once again Rick gav
  13. Has anyone fished with this bait off the rocks? I would be very interested to hear about that. I know it ahs worked for me in the hawkesbury gav
  14. Nice haul there Rick. It will take some catching you on the day. Dad is keen for a go on the 30th, I am a 50/50 at the moment. gav
  15. It would be great if you could fish the Fish Markets. Has anyone seen those bream that swim around in there? They are huge !! gav
  16. Garie is a top spot as mentioned. It can get a little busy though. We use to camp overnight at the northern end where the sand dunes meet the foot of the mountain. You can collect wood and get a fire going. It is a great spot for camping & fishing. You then can wake up early and get into them (if your are not too hungover that is )
  17. Grast catch Rick It looks like we are in for a good winter gav

  22. If you are going this weekend, get there early. The forecast is for a hot weekend. Yarra will be packed with beach goers It is a fun and very easy place to fish gav
  23. Greenwell Point is a top spot. We go down every year for xmas. It's like time has forgotten that place. You always get a feed out of the estuary, and like any small coastal town, there's a bowlo with a chinese restaurant, which serves great food. I have heard that they are going to be building a resort on the island in the middle of the estuary, with a marina and helipad. gav
  24. Love the photo's - i bet your son had a ball gav
  25. That looks like very relaxing way to sepnd a couple of hours Rickster. Nice catch too. gav
