If you are land based then the breakwall can be productive. Take some bread for berley and fish with prawns or pillies. Take a rod that can lift a fish as you are a few metres up off the water. You can also get blackfish off the litte wharf near where they launch the boats. If the swell is MASSIVE then fish lightly weighted baits off the breakwall back towards the shore..you should do ok gav
  2. Once again nice going Ray. Flatties are always a great feed gav
  3. Welcome to the site! Not only are they fun to catch they tast great when fresh. gav
  4. Hey Zac Did you end up meeting an old fella down there called Dan? He would of been fising with an okuma reel and maroon daiwa rod. If so that was my Dad. Con
  5. Stewy that spot seems to be firing at the moment - congrats once again gav
  6. Royce will be very jealous. That's a very nice restoration Ray. Have you had a chance to give it a test run yet? gav
  7. Stewy that is a nice haul of fish. I have fished that spot with Royce many a times and have not seen the weed grow like that there before. Is it long enough to fish with? I have always done better there on the last of the ron out tide With all the pictures you and Ray are posting it is making me very itchy for a fish. all the best gav
  8. I want to target and catch leatherjackets. I will be fishing inshore i.e. from jettys and wharves.(land based) I have had limited success using my blackfish outfit using a long shank hook and "pushing" the bait right up the hook to expose the tip. But I am keen to hear what other rigs people use. Do you use berley? What bait? How deep do you fish for them etc I am Umina beach based and have lately been fishing Wagstaffe wharf where the ferry comes in but if anyone has any spots they would like to share with me, I wouldn't argue thanks for any tips gav
  9. Even with no fish I still know where I would rather have been....... gav
  10. That's one big load of calamari..sounds like a great day well done gav
  11. WARNING! Squid_Jig be very very careful when fishing for blackfish...it is EXTREMELY addictive. I think you may have been bitten though! A 1.2kg blackie is a very nive fish congrats gav

  13. Nice going.. I can't wait for summer gav
  14. Nice going Ray - I can't wait to get back out on the stones. With moving house and work and my wife ready to pop out a 3rd child fishing has taken a back seat ...for now...hopefully the next 2 weeks see's me out amongst them gav i
  15. In a BIG swell like we are having at the moment I find those protected corners or bays fish very well. Imagine you were a fish and there were 6foot waves, where would you go to "get out" of the swell. hope this helps gav
  16. Matt Thank you for making us all very jealous! nice going gav
  17. Haven't been fishing for 3 weeks...arrgggh

  18. Gee whiz Roberta you should work for Forster Tourism You certainly make Forster sound VERY appealing. I haven't been up that way for about 5 years. Last time I was there I got some good bream off the cleaning tables near the boat place (opposite Fazio park). There seemed to be a good hole. I think also the fact there was natural burley in the water from all the fish gut helped. good luck gav
  19. Stewy I think some of them have headed out to the ocean. I fished a certain "pool" around Maroubra on the weekend of the 20th and they were thick. I took 12 and left them biting. There were 5 of us fishing the ledge and we all had at least 10 in the bag. Apparently the day before everyone got their bag limit. Off the rocks you just can't beat fishing for blackies - there is a real art to it, but once you master the basics it's a lot of fun. Thanks to Royce I have now mastered the wallis cast and know how to match a float to suit the conditions... royce i move this weekend, so be prepared for a central coast session real soon. gav
  20. Nice going Anthony that's one nice sized tailor. Pity about the jew though. Sounds like you have the spot sorted though good luck next time gav
  21. Thank you everyone for your replies. I have bought a 23cm Dexter Russell Filleting Knife + Sheath from www.everten.com.au . now I just need to test it out gav
  22. Hi All I need a new filleting knife. My existing one was a cheapie that has finally seen it's last fish. My budget is up to about $80. Can anyone recommend a good knife please as well as where I can get it from . Thanks in advance gav
  23. Royce I think you have forgotten more spots to fish, than spots I KNOW to fish gav
  24. Scrubby Your next challenge is to show Royce a new spot that he hasn't fished before - heck I am moving to the central coast and he even knows the estauries and ledges up there too gav
