  1. Hello Nonook, There was a good write up in one of the monthly fishing mags a few months back. I can't remember if it was ***** Fishing or Fishing ***** however it may be worth seeing if you can track down a past issue. Cheers Moro Mou I have edited the above post. Glenn
  2. That is a great lizard well done. How did your fishing rod hold up after you sat on it?
  3. Getting hang of this now. 1 more attached of the biggest Brown. Hodgey - agree reddies are good on the tooth but these were very small and not worth the effort in my books. Cheers
  4. Having trouble with the pics as they are in a different format. Anyway here is one.
  5. Yeah - sorry still working on the pics i don't think i could get the size small enough. And MPreston55 - yes the Redfin were far from welcome and certainly did not go back into the river.
  6. Hello Members, Sorry for the delay however been one of those weeks. Last weekend a group of mates and myself hit Tassie (Great Lakes region) to have a crack a one of Tassies big trout. We were all keen to fish both fly and plastics but for 2 of our group this would hopefully be there first opportunity to catch a fish on fly. Day 1 was Arthur’s lake and despite what can only be described as miserable conditions we were all very keen to hit the water. We all spent the morning wading the shores and using a combination of dry and wet fly techniques. While the morning was pretty slow and we were getting dealt some horrendous weather one of the boys was hooked and landed a nice 45 cm Brown Trout on a Woolly Bugger. This was the only fish before lunch but the afternoon things changed for the better. Using dry, Loch style techniques everyone managed a fish except me!! For two of the guys it was their first ever catch on fly so my grumbles were definitely drowned out with their joy. We ended up keeping 5 fish to 47 cm (the only ones kept for the trip) and arranged for the pub to cook them for us. Given there was 5 of us I didn’t go hungry despite not catching one. Day 2 – we hit Arthurs again and basically tried similar tactics to the day before. The day was a complete turnaround from the day before however this meant that it was going to be much harder on the fly fishing front. So it wasn’t long before the plastics came out and within half a dozen cast a had hooked and landed my first ever Brown trout. At 52 cm I was certainly pleased with myself. The other boys were quick to follow suit and the fly rods were downed and replaced with light spin sticks and rubbers. In the end we all had a great day with all of us bar 1 catching at least 2 fish. The biggest was 53 cm but we had taken 4 over 50 cm. As all were released it was steak for dinner that night. Day 3 – As we were all departing that evening our 3rd and final day was spent working our way back to the airport but stopping and fishing any accessible water along the way. This is certainly something that Tassie does well in terms of its access to inland rivers. By the lack of rubbish etc it looks as though most people don’t take things for advantage and look after the fishing areas. Our final day turned out to be another cracker with all of us managing fish however this time smaller rainbow trout. Most fish were legal (only have to be 22 cm in the river we were fishing) but all fish were released. We managed 32 between the 5 of us with the biggest being 32 cm so I think pretty respectable. In summary 5 blokes, 3 days, 16 Brown Trout, 32 Rainbow Trout and 4 redfin I think sums up a pretty good weekend. A few pics attached Cheers
  7. Hello Daleyboy A mate and i stopped the water police a few weeks ago and asked about this matter. While i think what you are saying is tecnically correct the water police may not necessarily few it in the same manor. You need to be moving with "purpose" was their remark. It is probably a grey area but i don't think i would take the risk of fishing it while the motor was only in gear. Cheers
  8. Great Yella's dogtooth. Did you get them bobbing in the timber? Cheers
  9. Hello all, I know a few of you fish Lake Lyell near Lithgow regularly so i thought i would send the following very brief report from the weekend. I had two sessions over the course of the weekend, 1 evening and 1 early morning. The weather was a little mixed and due to the wind i did not even bother with the fly rod. For both sessions I fished bank side with both worms and plastics. The evening session produced a few bites on the worms but i couldn't covert any to fish. I had about 50 casts with the s/ps but unfortunatley a simlar result to the bait. Early the next morning i had another session with a mate who had managed a 45 cm brown on a softie the day before. A few more nibbles on the worms but no hook ups. I gave the plastics another run and this time after about 6 casts i manged a nice little rainbow - 31 cm. I had a few more hits but no more fish. Anyway to be able to keep the wife happy and still squeeze in a couple of cheeky sessions i was pleased. For those interested i caught the rainbow on a 2 inch brown grub. My mate caught his brown on a smaller pumkinseed grub. No photos sorry. Cheers
  10. Hello Kingy Kid, Like a few of the other posts ensure you bleed and gut straight away and my fav is straight out of the smoker on toast with cracked pepper and a squeeze of lemon. This is a great breakfast if you have had an early morning session. Cheers
  11. I agree that when it is around nothing seems to be on the chew. I have also often noticed that when it does appear i often get stange slug/worm looking creatures (they also glow) on my baits. Does anyone know what these are? Cheers
  12. I headed South on the weekend to hit Lake Mulwala hoping that Murray Cod were going to be on the menu. Unfortunately after a heavily delayed flight and comments on our arrival like “you should have been here two weeks ago”, expectations were not high. Another guy had been on the lake all day and for his efforts only managed a lonesome Redfin. Regardless we had the boat in the water by about 3pm are did a combination of trolling and flicking spinner baits and hard bodies at snags. 50 or so casts later my mate called . . . “yep I’m on” and before long he had a very fat cod boat side. I did the handy work with the net and then onto the measuring mat. At a tad over 55cm it was legal but after a few quick snaps back into the drink she went. We battled away until dark but couldn't not tempt anything else. They were in the process of filling up the lake and appartently the cold water inflow had turned the fish off the bite. Local knowledge is the key in situations like this which unfortunatley we did not have. We gave it another bash in the morning where the temp chilled you to the spine. I dropped a reasonable fish when trolling after which the motivation for continuing in the cold reduced even further and by 1130 we were back at the ramp . . . . just as the rain started. Anyway that is fishing and i look forward to giving it another crack when it is warmer. A pic attached. Cheers
