Hello Josh, For Sambos i find that 2 inch white grubs with a really light jig head work best for me. You need to fish light gear to be able to get a decent cast but once hooked they are great fun. I fish long fluorcarbon leaders sometimes as light as 4lb but more often 6 to 8lb. The other option for them is the fly rod! Cheers

Hello Raiders, Hit the water with a mate early Sat morning and went in search of some surface action up the Harbour. We had a flick at a few markers but things were pretty quiet so we pulled up near Rose Bay and made a coffee. As the sun started to show its face so did a few birds so we went on a search. We sighted a few boats, plenty of birds and an extremely fast moving school moving up the harbour so we had a set chase. We managed to get a few shots into them but apart from a bump each (Mate on a plastic and me on a popper) we could not sink a hook. The school was heading straight for the bridge and soon they were in the exclusion zone. We poked around for a bit longer and found some surface action but they were quickly confirmed to be tailor. My mate was on fire getting hooks ups on just about every cast while I floundered around getting tackles. After I cast and broke off my third metal lure in as many casts my temper started to boil over. After I had re rigged (again) with leader and found another metal I cast and thankfully, as this lure stayed connected, I hooked up. In the end I am not sure how many we boated (maybe 10) but we kept 4 in the 41-42 cm range for an appointment with my smoker. Not long before the action died my mate asked if I was hungry and then proceeded to tell me what he had . . . . “heaps of food, Sandwiches, fruit, bananas” I said, “WTF bananas . . . . what are you doing to me.” At least that explained some of my misfortunes for the morning.

Thanks Josh, I caught a few on Sat and kept 4 for the smoker. Wife happy, neighbours happy and me happy. Very tasty.

Hello Raiders, With plenty of great reports of tailor being caught at the moment does anyone know if there is any further updates on dioxin levels/species reports for the harbour? The latest i can find on tailor is 1 per month or 150g per month. Given that fresh smoked tailor is one of my favourites i would be keen to know. Cheers Moro Mou

Well done. You did well pulling a yella out of Chaffey i have only ever caught carp there. How big?

If you check out the attached it gives a breakdown of saftey gear requirements. http://www.maritime.nsw.gov.au/docs/sbh/bh...art2.pdf#page=3 My understanding is Sydney heads are classed as "open" waters but you are still within the 2 NM area and therefore no EPIRB is required.

Hello Yarraone, Have not fished Mookerawa for over twelve months however on previous visits we had sucess trolling deep diving lures for Yella's. We did not have any at the time but apparently "Jackalls" are the lure of choice with most locals. Your troll speed needs to be very slow and you need to get right in amongst the timber. Hello Gulp625, Agree with all the comments as i have had mixed sucess with spiderwire. Some has been very good while other frays and breaks easily. I have purchased from 6 to 14 lb. By saying this if i see it on special i still buy it. Maybe i am just a sucker for a bargain.

It is still blocked off (ie only 1 lane open) as of this morning.

I did see them in a shop a few years ago but can't remember where and when - so maybe Go Fish can track a pair down. I have used both the brass and plastic and must admit i preferred the plastic as they were not as tough on the worm heads. I found that i pulled off more heads using the brass than the plastic ones. This may have just been my poor technique and I have since taught myself to use fingers. Anyway i hope you find what you are after. cheers

Hello Jack, Yeah Callala Bay is a bit shallow however we sucessfully launched and retrived a 5.7 sports rider type boat there recently. For Murray's beach it is a bit of a drive (say 20 - 30 mins from Huskisson). Maybe trying to find somewhere near Hyams Beach to saty would be a go. Sorry i can't be more helpful. Cheers Tim

Hello Kingy Kid, I have not launched at the Vincentia ramp so can't help. However both the Callala Bay and Murray Beach ramps are good. Both require a bit of a drive from Vincentia though.

I always use a double uni but it sounds like the albright is the go. Can anyone send a diagram or explain how to do an albright? I did a search on FR with no sucess. Thanks

Nice first Reddy Pigpen, They are very good to eat if taken from clear water. Unfortunately their flesh has the propnsity to take on a distict muddy flavour when they have been in farm dams . . . but certainly worth a try. Also i recommend filleting and skinning as they are extremely difficult to scale.
