  1. sushi is actually quite nice, it's a delicacy
  2. funny creatures they are anyways, how do you manage such a good catch every time? perhaps you should start a charter business looking forward to your next report
  3. hey guys, can any of our wonderful members suggest a combo for use on the rocks for some snapper? i don't have a big budget so not too expensive i have heard that sidecast reels are easy to use and mostly maintainence free, so maybe incorporate that? what do you guys think? thanks in advance
  4. not my favourite but the good old yakka saves the day on fishless trips otherwise 1.snapper 2.flathead 3.kingfish
  5. i'd gladly agree on banning alcohol consumption not only on the wharves but in most and probably all well known fishing locations. not only does the consumption of alcohol make you arrogant and short-tempered, it can also reduce reaction time and this is very dangerous when the fisherman is near the water (like in every fishing spot imaginable) especially on the rocks. banning alcohol will not only increase the safety and well-being of others but also on the fisherman him/her self.
  6. i also heard that they can bite you and that the bite never heals or something. maybe an old wives tale or something amongst the lines of that.
  7. if it is whole, press gently against the stomach region of the fish and if it feels very soft, don't buy it if it is very soft, the fish isn't that fresh and you're better off going to catch some of your own
  8. are you talking about fillets or a whole kingy?
  9. i dunno about sydney harbour but winter sees more cuttlefish than squid so you might want to use heavier lines well at least thats the way it is at my local fishing spot anyway
  10. send those jackets and slimies down south to wollongong and i'll take care of them
  11. you might want it to expel its ink before cleaning, as you will have a hard time cleaning your sink afterwards, or garbage bin. or if you want to eat the ink as well, (i sometimes do if i manage to get the ink sac out without spilling) try to be as gentle as possible as the ink sac is very fragile.
  12. to catch yakkas, you need to rig up with very small long shank hooks and bait up with tiny pieces of slimy mackerel or pillies. put the hook directly on the main line with a small split shot. you can also use a float is they are feeding on top of the water colunm. strike at every bite and if you miss, cast it back to where you had the last bite as they will come back for more. i find this technique very deadly on my local yakkas, you should give it a try
  13. does someone on this site know which headland Hill 60 (port kembla) is? is it the headland north of Port Kembla Beach. heard there were plenty of salmon there thanks in advance.
  14. they, and many other wrasse species command high "exotic" prices in japan, korea and many other asian countries when made properly, they are supposed to taste pretty good.
  15. warm water must have moved offshore and the colder water is coming inshore time to start waiting.........
  16. went down to wollongong breakwall yesterday for a quick session, took both the heavy and bait catching outfit. i rigged the heavy outfit up with a big slab bait and started catching some bait. the heavy outfit got some nibbles but not a distinct take so i concentrated on the bait.... and suddenly the heavy outfit gets hit HARD, BANG i started reeling in the fish and boy it fought hard. ended up being a nice Tailor, around 40cms sorry but don't have any pics here, will post some tomorrow happy fishing
  17. congrats on your snapper! and you are very brave, wearing only a T-shirt in this weather, i'd have frozen to death can i just ask where in wollongong did you catch the fish?
  18. that's a great catch there, it has inspired me i might start blackie fishing this winter, as down here in wollongong, all the other species are pretty quiet time to read up on some blackie fishing tips!
