  1. Sounds like a great day out. Where were you fishing?
  2. Well done on the catch. Suprised you didnt opt for a swim instead of a fish. Dont spose there were any Black Trevs on the bite by any chance?
  3. Well done on a great feed of fish! Just wondering if you were out there 0530 or 1730?? What part of the bay did you score the whitings? We boated 2 ratties at the pump on Sat arvo. 60cm and a 55cm. Had my young nephew on board and he happened to score his first kingie. A happy kid let me tell you. Anyone know where I can score yakkas in the bay from? I kid you not, I think ive only ever seen them in peoples live bait tanks..
  4. Nice healthy looking Jew. Well done.
  5. I seen 2 of these fish just out the heads from Jibbon Beach. I noticed that they were airborn and jumping from wave to wave. I never knew such a fish existed. I thought it was just the imagination running wild as it had been a bumpy Friday morning of fishing. I had to tell myself that they were some sort of silver sooty turn diving for baitfish. Thanks for the clarification, that im not going bonkers Great Photo!!
  6. Great Catch, Well done. I am interested in hunting black trevs. Are they there in numbers?
  7. I had purchased a new 5m centre Console boat. I had only taken it out into the Botany once before. I have been itching to get out, although the weather had been pretty crap when I have been available. I had one virgin fisherman on board. I was left dancing around assisting aiding and baiting almost the whole trip, as I also had my nephew and the old man on board. This was not a problem, as I was so happy just to be on the water. There was a good mixed Bag: 60cm Flatty 45cm x 3 flatty 47cm Trev a couple of nice flat leather jackets. There was a swarm of undersized Snappers, biggest ran about 28cm. Not one was oversize, although they kept the day interesting. As I was saying, there was a first timer on board(Hameed). He hooked onto the big flatty and was bring her home. I reached for the landing net only to hear a whole heaps of *((&*(&^**^*&^*%^%&, its gone. Ive been snapped off. I was pretty upset, as it would have been a great introduction to fishing, as I had seen colour and it looked pretty big. Im like dont worry, give me a min and ill rig you up again. While I doing my thing with my own rod, I hear him say casually that his rod was stuck? Stuck? I look at the tip of the rod and hes onto a fish, im like your STILL ON!!! Dropped my rod and reach for the net again. She looks a big girl and she fights for a short while on the way in. Once she surfaces. This is the wierd thing now, shes got a friend following. Hameed had surfaced her, ive gone and scooped the big one, and the second one hasnt moved, so I scooped that too. Mind you i rigged the rod up myself and had a running sinker with one hook only. I landed them booth only to realise that the big fish was looked and the little one came along for the ride. In saying that the friend was little, it was still a good 45cm. Definately a keeper! Let me just ask if anyone else has experienced such a thing? I know that Salmon will actually school and follow a friend that has been hooked for some time, although never seen anything go this far. Even after his friend had been landed. Fantastic day out. All on board were quite happy. Hameed over the moon having landed the big fat trev and the Big flatty. Beginners luck!! Could anyone advise how I can post pics?
  8. Job well done. Beaut kingie. There always seems to be kings at 12 mile, they only every vary in depth. Did the tiller steer have a dark green paint on the inside. 2 islander guys and a 40hp tomatsu motor by any chance? Those guys are usually at 12 mile.
  9. Hey Nook, Do you mind answering where the black trevs were caught, on the northern or southern part of Mona Vale? Thanks
  10. This is one I think I can pick. Seen you guys out at 12 mile reef off Botany hauling them in. I was actually thinkt these guys are crazy B*$%^^ds for being out here in a dinghy. I must admit, job well done. Sorry to give away your secret
  11. I know theres alot of kelp beds around there. Were you adrift in a boat or land based?
  12. Where in the hacking was it scored? Great catch!!
  13. I used to target them myself. They have a particular flavour that make them one of the better tasting fish. Granted, yes, their spines are enough to make you dance. The old man has copped a few spines even while cleaning the buggers. We have even had a family friend that caught a 45cm speciman up Swansea way, and he had a numb arm for 2 weeks.. Slime? I dont think youve ever touched one if you think they are slimy. Best to use fishing tongs and handle with care. Where to catch: Fav hunting grounds have been manly, Church point, Pittwater, Swansea (Newcastle way), Lilli Pilli and Dolans Bay wharf have them seasonally. Good luck with it. They fight like a little bat out of hell.
  14. Hey guys, Went out on a fishing character. Got a haul of Kingies. This was the biggest one that was landed. 84cms, and 6.5kgs. Great day out.
  15. Thats what im talking about!!! Salmon hunter officially blesses your trip!! Well done guys.
  16. I actually posed this same topic to the raiders. I have been fishing the same whiting spot for several years. Rain, hail, shine, summer, winter, it always produces a good feed of whiting. I seen a greeny grey film of something on top of what is usually otherwise rather clean water. I had never seen this sorta thing before. I think waterways needs to be informed of this. I am not happy about it let me tell you.
  17. Congrats on the whiting. I went out to a regular whiting spot that was always a hit and not miss location for a good few years now. I did not get a single touch or look at the bait. Im thinking that the dredging has something to do with this. Well done
  18. I find that west australian pilchard and gang hooks work best. Salmon are not the species of fish that you want to catch on a single hook. If you are not experienced in landing them, they all almost almost spit you out. Salmon fishing ROCKSSSSSSS!!
  19. Thanks for your post. I honestly think that this is all going down hill from here. We had a few boats out that day. I do not believe that Botany will cover from the dredging, or the increased salinity that is facing us. There was an unusal tinge of browny, greeny film on top of the sand. I had never seen anything or the sort in this particular place that I wished. After years of pillage and plunder from commercial fisherman, we finally reclaim the bay, only to have the airport corp and the state government take it away. This definately needs for us to take a stand.
  20. Guys, Can anyone shed some light on the dredging in Botany Bay. I have been going to the same spot for 5 years. It produces the goods for whiting all year round without fail. I was out there last Sat and I did not even get a touch. The bait that I was using did not get a touch. I have recently heard rumours about dredging. Does anyone know who what when where? There wasnt even little crappy snappy to touch the bait. PISSED OFF!!!
  21. Sounds like a nice day out. Well done. Just wondering if the Whiting are still the small winter variety, or if they are the fat breeding females?
  22. I seen some guys at a wharf once that had cleaned up. I got talking to them and they introduced me to the berkley range. I tried my hand at it. I must admit that I have had some pretty successful outings on the gulps, although I was not able to ever get any bream or flathead on the gulps. Does anyone know of any particular dvds that are useful? I have watched a few of them although they seem to go all over the country. I just want to concentrate on the bream and flatty species.
  23. You may want to give Baldface Point a go. Has been productive over the years.
  24. Great catch of Kingies. Well done. How far out were you?
  25. Well done, sounds like it would have been a bit of fun. They are a great sport fish. I personally do not mind them. I feel that people who do not appreciate them do not know how to cook them. Just wondering if you seen the famous salmon schools while out there? P.S. Garlic, lemon juice, tomato juice, both fresh and ground corriander.
