  1. Nice work mate! Great fish
  2. Hi Raiders, It was a great morning to be on the water, almost perfect conditions. I took my yak down to the harbour to see if I could catch my first fish on blades. I got distracted from my mission as soon as I hit the water. I couldn't resist throwing on a gulp shrimp in new penny. After 5mins I had my first fish on board, 38cm bream. I spent the next 3/4 of an hour throwing under moored boats for a couple of hits but no hook-ups . So I decided to change tactics and work on using blades .I've only fished with them once before about two weeks ago for no result. Well, within five minutes of switching to blades(pardon the pun), I had my first fish, about a 25cm whiting and I was stoked. Damn I didn't have my camera, I left it in the car and it was to far to travel back. Several casts later I had a solid hook-up. At first glimpse I thought it was a trevally but it did not fight like a typical trevor. As it the fish got closer to the yak I saw that it was a breambo and a 2nd P.B in as many weeks, 45cm . I was stoked to say the least. I didn't have my camera and I so badly wanted a picture of this beautiful speciman. The thought of keeping it passed through my mind but I just couldn't do it, I had to release her and off she swam. I also got a just keeper flatty. Three different species, what a lure ay. Cheers Luke
  3. Hi Ray, Nice work on the flatties and a great feed too. I must say Ive never seen Lion Island on that side before, what a great pic. cheers Luke
  4. Thanks Ray. The water was awesome between 6am and 8am but after that the wind kicked in and made it hard. Thanks Hodgey Hey Mako, It sure had a fair go especially on 4 pound fire, but thankfully there was not much structure around.
  5. Hi all, Went for a yak in the harbour on saturday morning with the company of fellow raider Yakfishing. We both fished with prawn imitation lures targeting bream and fishing around man-made structure. Interestingly, the water was surprisingly warm. There were not heaps of fish around, but the ones we did catch were quality. In fact I got my P.B bream on lure. It went 41cm. Took a couple of pics and then I released it. I've caught plenty around the 35-37cm before but this was my first bream above 40cm on a lure. I was absolutely stoked. I ended up with 3 bream and 1 flathead. I went out again this morning but only for a big doughnut.
  6. Nice fish mate, well done!
  7. Nice work Rich! Not everyone gets em on their first outing, congratulations! cheers Luke
  8. That's my plan I'd love to give up the location but I,ve got to get one of those residents first Hi Roberta, Your'e right on the money, that is exactly where I will be next weekend but hopefully I will have some better amunition
  9. Good evening all, Well what a weekend! I decided to venture out on the stones this weekend, spinning some metals at one of my many favourite Sydney rock ledges. Day 1 Arrived at the stones at about 6.30am to meet with fellow raider . We were met with a stiff and chilly nor wester, the sort of stuff that brings even the toughest of fishos to their knees. Or maybe I'm just a bit soft. A hot cup of coffee and some fishing gloves would have made for the perfect remedy and of course we had neither. We decided to target some pelagics that have been hanging around recently, but they seemed to have disappeared. My mate spun up a large pike just before 7 am and I thought you beauty, now there's a perfect kingy bait. Unfortunately I was a little unprepared for live baiting but I decided to take a risk. I put my 7000 bannax loaded with 60lb stren and 80bl saltiga leader and put it straight on my land based spin stick(10ft glass 8wrap) I didn't have any floats or ballons so I just tied my leader straight to the hook and attatched the pike just above the dorsal. Thirty seconds after the pike hits the water, I'm on and then seconds later I'm off again. I wind in the pike to find the fins are roughed up and scales have been removed, but it was still alive so I through it straight back out and within seconds I'm back on again. This time I locked up and the bannax started screaming. Almost certain to be a king, the fish ran me about a hundred metres up the ledge but this fish was determined and proved unstoppable. Pop goes the weasle and I'm gutted to say the least. Oh well what do you do hey, you just keep fishing. And that's what we did for the next hour without success. We packed up at 8am and went home but we got some great pics of the scenery. Day 2 We decided to go to the same ledge again but this time we had 2 extra buddies. With the four of us spinning metals we were able to create a mock feeding frenzy. We started spinning at about 615am but once again things were pretty quiet on the pelagic front. At about 645 on of the guys hooks onto a pike and I instantly thought, ah revenge time. I went back to where we had the gear stored and started to set up my outfit. Now I know this is going to sound foolish but I used the same set up as yesterday with the same rod and reel except this time I had a float with me. You see I just don't have a proper land based game out fit yet. But let me tell you, that after my experience today, it's the next thing on my shopping list. Anyway just as I got back out to the ledge my mate had caught a pike also. His version was a lot smaller than the first. It was a lolly pop. So I decided to throw it out first. I was on within a minute but it was to a squid and it killed the pike as they do. And you guessed it, I didn't have a squid jig damm it. Oh well I put the other oversize pike on and hoped for the best that it would not get mauled by another sqiud. Well within five minutes of it being in the water, it got hammered and I'm on big time and I even got a photo to prove it, but the photo with the bend in the rod is about the only memory I have as this fish decided to be camera shy and it took off. Another unstoppable. My mate got another pike moments after I was busted off. So on it went out into the deep blue and you guessed it, moments latter I'm on again. The fish went straight down and the line went slack, so I wound in the slack and I felt wait again. This fish was coming straight toward me. I could hardly wind in the line fast enough just as the fish decided to turn it's head. And that was the end of it except this time I pulled the hook. Shattered and guttered is all I can tell you, but I now have a motivation to get a proper land based game out fit. cheers
  10. Hi there, that's some great fish there in that cold water. Well done!
  11. Hi Roberta, Nice work on the blackies. My condolences to you and your neighbours family. Sounds like he was a great fisherman regards Luke
  12. Nice fish there, well done!
  13. Hi Mate, That was a great report, its ashame we didn't get some pics of the area, but your description was fantastic. Hope you enjoyed it and I look forward to it again in a couple of months. Cheers Luke
  14. Hi Justin, Welldone, some nice blackies there. You got one on a crab, I must say I've never done that before. I went out this morning but the westerly got the better of me and there was absolutley no wash. Cheers Luke
  15. Hi Ray, That westerly,it got the better of me too. Don't know about you but I hate howling westerlies and they don't fish real good any way. Anyway, some great pics you got there and truely was beautiful morning. Cheers Luke
  16. Hi Peter, That's a nice drummer, must be a couple of kilos there. How good has the black fishing been hey? I 've also caught my fair share over the past couple of weeks. Have you been getting them in the lake or off the stones? Can't wait to get back down to the lake should be firing up now. Hope to see you down there soon. Cheers Luke.
  17. Hi Roberta, Awesome report, and great to see you getting into them in the crappy whether. It's awesome down in sydnet at the moment. I caught about 40 - 50 luderick in 2 days, released most of them .The first lot I caught just before the big swell arrived on friday. The second session involved fishing off a beach in 3-4 metres of swell and pouring rain in about 2 feet of water. I love catching them in the big seas because it's always more of a challenge. I must admitt I've never tried cunjie before, but it makes sense and I must give it a go sometime. Welldone on your effort Cheers Luke

    Blackies

Hi Justin, Congrates on your first blackie on the new centre pin. Hopefully I'll see you in the lake soon when those big suckers come through. I also bought a centre pin recently. I will use it in the estuaries but I'll stick to the egg beater off the rocks. It's funny you know, when you get used to something, it's hard to change but thats what makes change so exciting. Cheers Luke
  19. Hi Everyone, Went for a fish this morning with Tristan(Yakfishing). A little bit of swell around, but the platform we ventured to was still fishable.(Just ). Anyway, ended up to be a great morning with 10 fish taken home. Tristan was busted off by some big blackies and maybe even an unstoppable drummer. What can you do when fishing 6lb leader. I love fishing for Luderick and would recommend it to anyone who has not given it a go in past. They are great eating fish and pound for pound, they are great fighters too. Although this type of fishing requires some finesse, it is a great avenue to help everyone improve their fishing skills. For anyone who wants to try it, fellow fishraider Roberta, has written an excellent detailed description on how to fish for blackfish and there are plenty of raiders with heaps of luderick experience. Just Do It! Here are some pics Cheers Luke
  20. Hi Tristan, Nice work mate! Good to see the good ol silver fox working its magic again. Sounds like you had a great session down there. I wonder where we will be yaking next hey? Congrates cheers Luke
  21. Hi Raiders, I went this arvo to one of my favourite fishing possies to have a crack at the Luderick. It was cold and wet, which eventually led to my demise. What a frustrating session it was. I got a 35cm blackie in the first half hour and then I struggled to get any downs for the next hour. At about 5pm, very large school of mullet came right into the corner of the beach I was fishing. They were so annoying. I could hardly read my float because the mullet kept knocking it. Everytime I went to check my bait, it was gone. I thought to myself, surely mullet don't eat sea lettuce. I had to start anticipating when a blackfish was taking the bait, which eventually led to the demise of this big fella, 45cm. After that, I was too cold and wet , so I went home. Still had fun though. cheers Luke
  22. Hi Hodgey, Mate I got her on a 2" gulp shrimp in Lime Tiger Hi Stewy, I think you could be on the money by lookings at those picks Cheers Luke
  23. Hey Stewy, Could be a bass but I find it hard to tell the difference. I also Didn't think you would get bass in the salt this time of the year.
  24. Hi Everyone, Well a couple of weeks ago I posted the first e.p I've seen in the narra lake. I also said how jealous I was that it was not me who caught it, but a good friend. Well if you believe in karma, I think I got the sweet end of it. I went down to narra lakes this arvo for a quick session up deep creek in the yak. It was a bit on the quiet side as far as hits were concerned, although there was quite a bit of surface activity. After about half an hour I got a legal bream and then straight after that I got a massive hit near an overhanging branch. At first i thought I had caught the branch, but then it started moving sideways. After a good tussle I finally landed this big girl, took a few picks and then I released her. I was stoked. Cheers Luke
