  1. Exactly. You are allowed to fish in aquatic reserve but you can’t fish in a sanctuary zone. Nice catch!!
  2. Pretty sure that is aquatic reserve
  3. Awesome video mate. Were you anchored or slow trolling the live squid?
  4. Have any of you tried to get outside through Sussex Inlet? I fish the basin a bit and have thought about giving it a go but never got round to it. Would like to hear from someone who actually has done it.
  5. Hi guys Just an update for you. I have installed the dual battery system as per Testlabs diagram. Once I had sourced all the parts needed it only took me 3 hours to wire, install and test. The VSR kicks in when the start battery has reached 13.6V and then engages the house battery. One problem I have noticed is sometimes when I turn the isolator switch to 1 (motor) there is no power at the ignition, but if I turn it to ALL and then back to 1 I then have power. I wonder if it has something to do with the VSR???? It doesn't happen all the time mostly when the boat hasn't been used for a couple of days. Any thoughts???
  6. Thanks for your replies. I'm leaning toward the setup that testlab has drawn. This way both batteries are independent but can still use the house battery in an emergency to start the motor. I have also come across this double pole switch whilst searching. Looks like you can wire it 3 ways house battery on, house and start batteries on (still independent) and emergency parallel. http://www.bepmarine.com/home-mainmenu-8/product-778/pro-installer-dual-bank-control-battery-switch-copy-
  7. I have sent Huey a message thanks for the heads up. Am still looking for advise from other raiders as well.
  8. Hi all. I have a 50hp Mercury 2 stroke and the battery has started to fail. I am looking to bite the bullet and install a dual battery setup but need some guidance. I would like to have it wired so that one battery can do the motor and the other do all other things. The battery that is failing is a Quicksilver Marine Starting Battery 450 CCA 100 RC had it roughly 6 years. I am not sure what size alternator is in the Mercury (16amp maybe?) I had a look in Road Tech Marine today and the young bloke that was on couldn't really steer me in any direction but I came across these http://www.roadtechmarine.com.au/productView.asp?ID=TEA784&CATID=57&form=CAT2&SUBCATID=294#2 http://www.supercharge.com.au/others/allrounder the MRV48 60AH I already have a 1,2,1+2, off isolating switch installed on the boat simply to shut the battery off when the boat is parked up. Would 2 x 60AH allrounder batteries be suitable for motor and house or should I go cranking battery for start and deep cycle for house? Do you still use the isolating switch with the VSR or just use one or the other? Any help would be greatly appreciated..
  9. Hey Banana Peel whats happening mate. Recognised you in the photos long time no see. Nice king also. Dwayne
  10. Absolute cracking fish mate well done!
  11. WOW Was this actually inside the basin? I have seen photos of reds being caught many years ago but this is a very good indication that they might be starting to make a comeback. Great catch of reds in the basin!
  12. Hey there funnierthanu, quick question is the tarwhine the fish on the right in the photo with the tail just out of the photo????? If so can you only tell by their rounded mouth?????
  13. Yeah I was out yesterday aswell, weather and conditions were perfect caught well over 50 baby snapper but no keepers. Did get a couple of blue swimmers for dinner. Wherever we went we could not escape the snapper ???
  14. Hi Ash, Thanks for the reply mate. Im pretty sure they are bonito, can any other raiders verify this?
  15. Hi fellow raiders Me and a mate decided to go fishing on sunday in botany bay so met at the ramp at 6am and the call was to try and have some fun with bonito on light gear. As we approached the heads the lures were deployed and 5 minutes into trolling we were on after a short fight we landed a bonito. We kept this up for another 30 minutes landing 3 more bonitos and decided we had enough bait for future missions and the swell was a bit sloppy so we headed back inside the bay to target some trevs and breambos. Once we had set the anchor and started the burley trail it didn't take long for the bites to start. We were catching heaps of undersize snapper and tailor all going back to grow bigger. After about 20 minutes of this suddenly I got a solid hit and my line is peeling off my reel as the fish is heading straight for a marker nearby, so I tighten up the drag in an attempt to turn it around and get some line back but to no avail as it snaps me off on the marker. After re rigging my rod and still swearing about what could have been i got another solid hit only for the same thing to happen Not happy!!! Wasn't much I could do on the bream outfit. It started to die down after about 30 minutes so we headed to towra for a drift to try and pick up a flatty. Once again caught a thousand undersize snapper and some small whiting and 1 keeper. The end tally whiting 30cm, tailor 35cm, bonito 38cm-42cm Bait used fresh prawns and pilchards
  16. Thanks for the info I will give that a go next.
  17. nice flatty mate, can i ask what sort of poddy trap do you use? homemade or the tackle shop type? I've tried making a few of my own but cant seem to get them to swim into it. Any info will be appreciated. thanks mate
