Hi folks, New to offshore fishing and was thinking of heading to the peak and 12 mile this weekend to target some kings. In case things are quiet, I was hoping to get some advice on whether there were other spots worth fishing. Planning to hit the colours and around the cliffs on the way back but planning to stay offshore at least until the tide swing at 1pm. Thanks in advance.

Hey Raiders, Recently purchased a boat (Formosa) which has a live bait tank although requires plumbing. Internal bilge looks a lot cleaner although I’m looking for some guidance: - any pros and cons of a through hull (scoop on the bottom of the hull vs elbow on the rear of the transom)? - any concerns using plastic parts considering the boat will be taken offshore? E.g could the scoop break and let water in. - are these safe with an isolator installed? Anyone had any bad experiences? If you do have a Leak how would you even know (before it’s too late)? Thanks in advance.

Anyone had luck with kingfish inside the bay? I've only heard of the odd capture here and there. Seems unusual to me having fished the bay for many years now there's normally more kingfish action than this.

Nice catch there mate! Yeah we got done by the jackets last week near kurnell. Lost 2 hard earned squid to them.

I use a simpler, less appealing alternative. I have the bilge wiring rigged to a male cigarette adapter and clamp a female adapter to the battery. When in use I plug it in and pull it out to stop. All easily removable once finished.

Hello, Just wanted to hear peoples thoughts regarding new reels and whether they should be oiled/greased in any particular places for preventative maintenance? If so, any advice would be much appreciated. I haven't had as much time to fish lately and as a result have purchased 3 new reels. I want to keep them in tip top shape and was curious about pre-use maintenance. Cheers,

Water temp at Mol point yesterday (anchored) was 22 but I did notice it as high as 24 towards the main channel when coming from kurnell side.

Well done mate... I was out today today too and ended up with the same result.. a big fat 0. Peckers were around and baits didnt stand a chance. I tried drifting further away from the markers but still no luck. I guess this season is over for me

Yes my boat is painted. So I'm presuming you use a hose to wash your boat? I just find that there's not enough pressure with a standard hose to thoroughly get the salt out. I just thought why pay $5 every time when I can just buy a gerni and save on costs long term.

I just wanted to ask how does everyone clean their boats? At home with the hose, at a DIY car wash or with a pressure cleaner? I am thinking of purchasing a pressure cleaner as it simply does not seem feasible to spend $5-$8 every trip to spray the boat down. Can anyone recommend a decent pressure cleaner or a more viable option? Cheers,

I wasn't aware of that and also we were stopped for a routine check whilst anchored at the tripod by water police and they never mentioned anything but thanks for the input. Also for those that are interested they checked for: fishing license, boat license, registration, oars, jackets, fire extinguisher, torch, and bucket with rope attached. If you don't mind me asking what was the general area that you were fishing and roughly what time of day were the fish biting? Thanks,

Hi mate, I have my bait board installed with external plastic rod holders which was one of your options. I had to modify the bait board slightly to move the legs closer in so they would fit into the rod holders, as I only had limited room to install the rod holders. Personally I would only use lighter outfits on the bait board rod holders as I have had kings take the lighter out fits and the bait board tends to bend. I mount the external rod holders with 4 rivets on each(although there is room for 6).

Had an early start on sunday morning with next to no visibility due to the fog. Launched from drummoyne and it was a slow and scary ride out to the harbour but luckily once we passed the bridge it wasn't too bad. First off we picked up a few squid and a cuttle, then off to get some yakkas. All was looking good until.. we did a drift passed the yellow marker and the cuttle was picked off immediately. Damn not the peckers again as I had the same problem last week. Moved to the tripod and anchored, same thing happend. I don't know what they are(possibly LJ's?) but they demolish baits almost instantly, although I did not lose any rigs. They must have sharp teeth as they have no problems decimating our squid baits within a matter of seconds. I could see good activity on the sounder(which looked like predators) but within seconds of baits being put down, tap tap tap and our hard earned squid's gone. Fished most the markers in the harbour and tried along the quarantine head cliffs. Also tried along the cliffs near the south head light house but there wasn't much activity besides a few bait balls here and there. I did not see many other boats catching but reports as of late seem to still show kings in the harbour. We spent a good 10 hours on the water moving around a lot but couldn't even manage one king. How did everyone else go this weekend? The only places I could see good activity the baits would get taken by peckers.

I think the transducer is designed to have semi-mobility. So that in the event that you do hit an object that it kicks up to prevent damage. However there should be enough tension on it, so that the water pressure does not cause it to move.

I remember someone posting they caught a 14kg jew from mol point land based in the past week or alternatively you could always try the bridges as they usually produce. Regarding squid, no idea, I've had absolutely no luck with squid from boat but have heard of people catching them at yarra bay.
