  1. Hi Stewy, my god what a day huh? can't even see middle head from Rose Bay, Fishlectic, I really hope your not going out in this, unless you've got a really big boat with an even bigger anchor , meant to be clearing for Sunday but still bloody windy, let me know if your going, will see if I can get a crew together. Tobe
  2. If it does come to a losing vote, I reckon we should get all those fishermen, on foot and in boats to go down to Long Reef to protest, it would make a landmark spectacle and bring to light just how many people are really involved in this proposturous idea.
  3. Hey mate, isn't it the speed that stuffs up transducers not the water pressure surrounding it??? I'm not sure. I have to move mine too, get a massive roostertail from the back, reckon its mounted way too low, i've got a Humminbird 3dMatrix, bit finicky, too much detail half the time. Anyway, be interested to see if your plan works. Tobe
  4. Might join you out there, i've got to work Saturday night now, which sucks. What time you thinking of heading out and where from? You going for live bait first? Tobe (Pakula Sunrise)
  5. Just voted too, its getting worse, down to 73% C'mon guys, this is a biggie, get every fishermen fishergirl you know to vote, hell I just got my chick to vote from Bulgaria, she's got no-idea what she's voting for but god bless her.
  6. Slimies, basically they have more fish oil in their flesh, therefore much more attractive to predatory fish, this is't what i think its a fact. Its also why its one of the worlds most popular shark and berley baits, use them in your berley and you'll see the oil slick travel for kilometers at sea.
  7. My god, I almost dare not start this....but!! I heard so many different things from so many tackle shops its getting ridiculous. I'm fairly new to SP's, heaps of lures, spinners and plugs but not much in the way of plastics, so just want to pick your brains and see if i can come up with a worthy plastic to hit the harbour with.??? Ok so over to you guys.......
  8. I'm getting the 16's, got an absolute steal, $750 for poles mounts and full rigged...woohoooo!! now just need some decent weather to get out there...
  9. Hi Zephyr, you could try mounting your aux on the starboard side, logical really as you'll balance the boat tilt angle out, or you will have to get trim tabs. I have a 6.4m Cabin with an inboard with all the steering controls on the starboard side, and it pulls to starboard. So now with hydraulic trim tabs I can balance the boat out when underway, also helps when I've got people onboard and when there is a strong wind blowing. Goodluck mate. Tobe
  10. Hi Ceph, mate what an awesome day, you must be over the moon to be able to take the whole family fishing, and to give them all Kingies, wish my dad did that well done, and great story too. P.S. watch those Stella's
  11. Hi Sally, welcome to the club, not sure where in the harbour your based, but Watsons Bay is a great place to catch all sorts from Bream, Flathead to Kingies and Jews if your up for a battle between the boats. Try off the caged in pool to the left of the ferry wharf. Tobe
  12. Awesome fish, well done to him. bet he's after some heavier gear now will have to try a night session soon myself.
  13. Cheers Sammy, I was hoping they were PC poles, heard good things about them, have some good stainless backing plates ready made up for inside the cabin, well chuffed. Picking them up next week, fully rigged too, can't ask for more really. Thanks again. Tobe
  14. Hi Raiders, looking at buying some 16' Black Pete outriggers for my 6.4m Savage Marlin. Just wondering if anyone has used these or has any info on them. I've had alook and they seem great, nice and stiff with solid side mounts, two piece by the way. Any info would be great. Thanks Tobe
  15. It was almost Karma, a week earlier we towed a tinnie with a stuffed motor around to the same beach. I reckon they must see quite a few boats being towed into there.
  16. Sponot, I just did the same thing last night, brand new tuna jig reel fully spooled up with 1000m of 30lb and a nice new set of rod clamps sitting on the desk, BUT I haven't respooled it yet, I'm seeing if I can do it, and let me tell you its hard....really really hard. I see it sitting there when I go to bed, when I have my breakfast, aaaaargh.
  17. Must confess I was pretty worried about the boat, one big wave and it would've gone under. Don't normally carry a camera onboard, probably should huh. It wouldn't fit into the fish box (recycling box), big fat bugger, the birds were circling an area around 1km, I'm sure there will be more reports as there were a few boats amongst it all. Cheers Tobin
  18. Set off early this morning to beat the crowds at OMH, had a great fish and pulled in heaps of livies which in turn pulled in some good Kings, it started to get abit too busy, around eight boats all up, so we moved out towards Bluefish point. Never seen so many birds flying around, awesome sight, as we trolled out, both lures got smashed so hard I actually thought the Ugly's were going to struggle. Pulled in some of THE biggest Salmon I've ever seen, around 8kg easliy. Anyway, the wind picked up and the swell got abit hairy so we headed back in. Great to see no-one at the OMH, came around to drop the anchor when the engine just stopped dead, not a great place to have your engine stuff up, especially with the swell running straight onto the rocks. Went to see what the problem was, and there was some twats anchor rope wrapped around the prop, at which point I realised we were now anchored by this rope with the transom pointing straight into the swell, even better. I have a stern drive which a: doesn't lift very high and b: weighs a bloody ton. So I ended up standing on the cavitation plate and trying to cut myself free whilst being hammered by an onshore swell, had the bilge pump running the whole time as we were taking on a fair amount of water. Cut the rope to the anchor, still couldn't even turn the prop, but light at the end of the tunnel. A couple of really great guys in an orange fibreglass runabout gave us a tow round to Quarantine beach so we could jump off and remove the rest of the rope. I would like to say a massive thankyou to those guys, you really are troopers, really really appreciate your help, pretty much saved my boat. I know OMH is a great spot and very popular with everyone, but for gods sake be aware of other boaties, if you do have to cut your anchor rope, tie a lead to the end so it sinks back down, there is way to much traffic through there to leave ropes floating around, this could have been a proper disaster story. Sorry for the long winded story, but thought it kinda important that people know about it.
  19. &*(&^ sells Sabaki's for $5 for two sets. I use these to get my livies every trip out, catch just about everything from Slimies to Trevally.
  20. Sorry to hear about that dude, hope it was one of the old frequency ones at least. My boat got broken into last week, stole my heavy duty house battery and for some unknown reason pulled my whole throttle assembly off the side of the cabin, around $600 worth of damage. Mkaes me wonder if a swing mooring is the way to go. Another fella (Reefrunner) around the corner had his brand new stainless prop pinched too, great start to summer huh!
  21. Awesome dude, well done on the first boat, just got mine too, just hoping it wasn't me at the boat ramp making people wait to long, still abit of a green horn, and my fishing buddy is totally clueless still, but we're much better now. Going out on Saturday if you fancy it? Nice Sambo too.
  22. Awesome fish well done, wish I'd got up earlier now. Had to wait for others and didn't get in till 3pm!!!!!!!! stayed out till 8:30 though, only had one hard run and just little uns all arvo.
  23. Had a quiet one too, ended up smashing Travelly for about an hour just inside North head on feathers, bit of fun..
  24. Go for the 2 speed, I've got one on a Shimano Backbone Elite 15kg, awesome setup...
  25. Blimey it seems there's more than a few issues with this then, I'm working just round the corner from Rose Bay police, so I'll drop in tomorrow and see what they say, had a look at the signs they've now put up, AREA 2 Rose Bay permits only, bit of a bugger as I'm on the other side of Old South Head road and won't be entitled to a resident pass. Trying to find an empty street in Bondi with summer coming is nigh on impossible, let alone one to keep a 20ft boat, then there's the slackpackers to worry about. Thanks for everyones help, at least I know its legit to keep on the road somewhere. Big day on Saturday, can't wait to go get it......woooooohoooooooo
