  1. Correct, water skiing may be banned, but it doesn't stop idiots.. Just idiots behind a boat:) Cheers, Pete:)
  2. Dave, Firstly, welcome to raider:) Secondly.. What time were you on the water? Hopefully it wasn't on one of the busy times - boat traffic is never really a good thing unless your part of it:) Cheers, Pete
  3. G'day guys. I did take a trip back from the city the other day and saw what I thought could possibly be a yacht called ' Octopus' ...May possibly have been that, although I doubt Paul Allen [Owner of Octopus] would have been in Sydney, although anything is posisble:)..Is the best city is the world Cheers, Pete.
  4. even better, Jaycar Electronics.. 12V, 7AH for $19.95 ..
  5. Thermal fuses and thermocoplues are two totally different things.. Thermocouples reset themselves, where thermal fuses do not. Alot safe to have a thermal fuse as it will completely asolate the issue in regards to heat tolerence.
  6. Maybe getting a little too serious, but you can install thermal fuses.. If the temperature of the cable exceeds a certain limit, then it cuts the power off, but definately safer to have a fuse in there for short circuit protection... Just thought I should let people know about thermal fuses.. Very popular and very handy to have on some appliances.. Cheers, Pete.
  7. ..may find that they have similar suppliers... Possbly all RFD jackets, most common I've seen out there mate. Only differnce being the super cheap ones from memory, went the inflatable variety:) .. But we can all do with an inflatable one every now and then Cheers, Pete.
  8. G'day raiders... While browsing my usual sites, came across this recall of a PFD that should be posed. Date: 07/12/2006 Supplier Name: RFD Australia Pty Ltd Product Info: Type 1. Consumer action: Return PFD to BIAS Boating Warehouse for a replacement Floatation Device. Market Coverage: National Recall Coverage: National http://www.recalls.gov.au/view_recall_deta...l_ID_Auto=14537 Better safe then sorry eh??
  9. Flightmanager, How about you take up to the sky for a view?
  10. If anything happens to go wrong, you can always use the sub to push the boat along Cheers, Pete
  11. One thing to remember that if you are after a sub, then you do really need to run an amp with it also. The power comming striaght from a head unit won't be stong enough to punch a decent sub.. With an amp comes more power drain on your batteries too... Just a thought.. Pete.
  12. With regards to doing 10knots for a licence. Is that based on movement over water or movement through the water with the use of the vessels speedo?? Orrr, is it based on what someone believe to be 10knots? We all know that with speedos in vessels, the direction and current of the water can make an impact on the speedo as compared to the 'speed over land' that is given to the GPS measurements. .. I'm curious to know what the 'rules' say in regards to this. I believe it should be a gps reading, not a speedo reading from a vessels transom mount sensor...This is just my input.. Cheers, Pete.
  13. Along with anything with boater mate, I beleive the best way to learn is via experience... or when it comes to crossing bars, atleast sit back and watch others attempt the crossing before you jump out and give it a go yourself:) CHeers, Peter
  14. Apart from the obvious around here, I love photography.. or yeah, and surveillance:)
  15. I tried running an old esky as a tank quite some time back, little did I realise that once approximately 1/2 full with water and my driving in my tinny, that the water would keep flowing over the side. [had no lip to catch it inside the unit] . Works a treat if you are steady on the throttle

    Boat Lighting

Give ya local Jaycar Electronics store a ring and ask them about a 12v led strip.. Quite pricey at around $50 for a strip, although current draw is a max of 200mA. And the light output is extremely good. One on either side of the gunwale will do a great job.
  17. G'day all, Names Peter, 18 and work the boring life of retail sales in the electronic industry. Own an open runabout, just over 4m in length and generally fish in the Georges river although havn't been out due to alot of other commitments. Havn't really all been a big fisho, mainly a boatie with one day hoping to own a nice plate ally that I can take out of the heads and get back into the fishing scene. Feel free to drop me a message if you need any advice on electronics and I'll try my best out for the raiders. Ships Ahoy, Pete.
  18. Got mine being ' WHITEBAIT' Smalll open runabout, deck and hull being white in colour:)
  19. Well mate, yes and no for sale. If I find one that i'm interested in for that price, then we will sell this one, for the funds to purchase another one, but as of yet, it's in all up in the air. Having too much of a great time on this one, but I do believe that a H/C would be more better. I did find a nice craft that sounded alright [17ft - 70HP johnson], although, everything sound good on paper.... I enjoy working and installing everything ont he boat myself, so even if it was in a suitable, still fishable and presentable, I would still purchase it. But as for all the little things like carpet, radios and two-ways - thats all extra's that I love installing. But now I'm just raving on. So yeah, it's not 100% up for sale - just curious on what I'll get for it. I know I might be able to push up the selling price and bit, and even if they try and bargin with me, I wont fall below the $3600 mark... but yet again, all depends what price the one I'm interested in falls to:) Pete,
  20. Thanks mate. Thats slightly higher then what I was expecting to hear. I was thinking along the lines of about $3000. Well, I purchased it for $2000, so I guess all the extras helped. Is it possible to find a small half cabin for around the $3600 mark?. After using an open runabout, I like the idea of have someone to stay out of the elements:) Thanks, Pete.
  21. hmm, was it the same style of boat mate??. 14 1/2 ft? pete,
  22. yeah mate, someone needs a use for it - they don't seem to work all that hard We knew someone in the council and picked it up through them.
  23. There we go. Here are a few pics that might the process a bit more:). First time using this, so bare with me if they don't come through. Thanks, Peter.
  24. Hmm, I tried the rocks, but not with bait. There was a fair swell growing, so was I was a bit reluctant to stay out there any longer . As for species of fish, mate, to be honest, anything thats hungry I was both whole and half pilchards [mainly the tail section], and whole bottle squid. Used a large beach rod to cast about 50m or so out and a large snapper sinker to hold it down since I ran out of star sinkers:( Peter.
  25. Decided to travel south to Coalcliff Beach and try out my new outfit:) Arrived there at about 8am and fished for about 4hrs. Totally Unsuccessful Better luck next time:) Peter,
