  1. Are you talking about the click in the knob when you adjust the drag, or the clicking that happens when there's a fish pulling line?
  2. I think Australia is a big enough slice of the pie for them to be concerned. And whilst our population is a fraction of the USA,most of our population lives coastal (broadly speaking). And we're not just talking big tackle companies, think of all the elements involved when you go fishing, the hardship would go right down to bait and tackle shops, boat hire places, service stations etc. Not to mention the large fishing/camping stores. Fishos are always spending money, also fishing licences. ALL these things combined MUST be worth more in jobs and revenue than that trawler which is going to pillage our waterways. The only thing that I can think of is some grubby minister is getting a healthy kick back from this.
  3. Well done on the haul, some solid fish there.
  4. Screwing recreational fishing is like closing down the local PCYC. It keeps people occupied, especially young people. If there's anyone that should be acting right now, it's the big tackle companies. Less people fishing will hurt their bottom line. A#$%^$*@
  5. Beautiful and expensive! Part of the reason I adore my alveys is they're tough and they can cop a bit of a scratch and a knock and no need to sweat because at around $100 (6 inch direct wind model, and smaller drag models), they're easily replaceable. If I go and spend $400-$500 on a reel, I'll be concentrating more on not scratching it than fishing.
  6. Awesome story, love it when you get a session with a twist. Something similar happen to me at rosebay. I was squidding and had a couple of small calamari, put one out, only difference is I got smoked
  7. Productive effort off the rocks there mate. Well done.
  8. From what I understand, alvey was doing R&D on which knobs to use, so I can't be certain on the knobs they will put on it but here's a picture of the 650BRR, it will look similar
  9. Will be sure to add a review. Well done on breaking the world record for the number of flattys caught by one man haha. Glad she's slaying them for ya.
  10. I could be WAY off the mark, but if a marine place can't advise you, try a 4wd place, dual battery setups is pretty standard in any decked out 4wd
  11. Hey there alvey enthusiasts. There will be a new model Alvey available very soon. It's the 625BRR I'm really excited about this reel, it's the first direct wind in its size with the rapid retreive feature. It will be a gem off the beach.
  12. Blackfish have a picture of Royce underwater and underneath in big writing it says BEWARE Hahaha
  13. There's a couple of ways you can look at this. If you hire 10 times a year, that's $1500 out of your pocket. Which is very good when compared with owning your own boat where you need to outlay tens of thousands to buy, then there's the space factor, and then you need to consider that you have to pay rego and insurance, there's $500 at least. Iv sent you a pm with info on a mob much cheaper than the main boat hire franchise. Cheers
  14. If you had or have a son or daughter in their late teens who wanted to go rock fishing, would you tell them to put a life jacket on?
  15. IMO mandatory life jackets will pass as legislation. Because as previously mentioned, if it saves one life, its done its job. And realistically it will be more than that. Once it's in and becomes common knowledge and it's the norm that's when it will be most effective. This will never be about revenue raising considering they'll be giving out subsidies to get the life jackets out there, and some one needs to be hired to go out enforce it.
  16. Good harvest of fish, well done and enjoy the feed, good feeling when you know they're legal just by looking.
  17. Well composed, good clear footage and a fitting sound track.
  18. Yeah it was ripping line off, Ben actually had to palm the alvey...
  19. My thoughts exactly, I was only cut for half a second, then laughed it off.
  20. Have been getting some evening weekend fishes In with a mate, with out managing to disrupt the home/family/work flow. Got to the stones about 10 with a bag of worms and some prawns. Off the bat my first 2 casts I got 2 fish, 2 legal whiting which put up a bit of a fight in the swell, then not much, went quiet for a bit. I went to check on my whiting in the keeper net and... The prisoners had escaped! I went on to inspect the keeper net and had discovered the fish had escaped through a hole I didn't pick up on. In saying that, it's not the first time and it probably won't be the last. At this point the spot we were fishing was getting smashed by swell, and the activity dropped right off, so we shuffled up a bit, reset and started fishing. We managed a good blackie, good bream and a tarwhine on fish steroids.
  21. Congratulations Some very innovative ideas and well put together. I fancy myself as quite a handy man and I'm very impressed.
  22. Very interesting. This one will get used.
  23. Very interesting. When you talk about the switch in your car, are you implying the water supply will be in there too? I like the idea but I had a mire simplified version. Have a series of perforated hoses running around the trailer, which lead to a garden style hose fitting which is fed from an external source. In saying that, I like a bit of water pressure to blast off the salt.
