  1. Important thing is you got out, wet a line, had a laugh and had a story to tell. Well done.
  2. Good read bud, got the fish barter system going there.
  3. Any pics? Half the fun of reading reports
  4. Laperouse way, there's a golf course, when the gate opens off the main road in the morning, drive up and park OUTSIDE the golf course, you will get wheel clamped inside. Then it's a 300m-400m walk down to the ledge
  5. Yeah, that's about the time I was cashing in on the big boys, but you could actually get a spot down there, then it got seriously crowded and filthy, turned me off the place.
  6. Monster kings pass through, when they're running you'll have sambos stealing your livies, also bonito, trevally, squid down the end on the left, along with flatties all over the place. In these warmer months be careful of red belly black snakes sunning themselves. And you'll also get one eyed snakes coming up from the beach past the rocks on the right. One of the strangest things ever to happen to me while fishing, having a conversation with a naked man about the species of fish in the fish in the area and what baits best to catch them.
  7. My view is fairly simple. If it's deeply hooked I cut the line and let it swim off instead if injuring the fish further. At best it might be a coin flip if it lives or not, I'll let mother nature decide.
  8. Sydney fish markets eat your heart out Haha
  9. Depends on the depth of the scratch. If it's shallow and only cosmetic it should be ok. If it's deep and cuts into the fibres, I belive it will compromise the integrity of the rod.
  10. You've got 40 years of fishing to catch up on, get cracking.
  11. That is a MASSIVE cast, the only way I'd get a livie out 200m would be if I stood with my left foot forward, kneel down and clip it onto a remote control helicopter.
  12. It's an acquired taste... And by the way Luke, you may hate alvey reels, but they will always love you xoxo
  13. Well done on losing you kingy virginity, always a special moment.
  14. I have 1)snow sky and the wife has 22)the United States Both donkeys, $10 on the nose... Come to papa!
  15. Who evers racing. I like the lead up to the race the week or so before, looking at the different horses, odds etc. Then it's over in a flash
  16. Nice surprise there, expect the unexpected. Well done.
  17. Casting is relative to the length of the rod, obviously the longer the rod, the further the cast. But if you have a livie hooked on, the best you can hope for is a good lob. If you full crank out an awesome cast, you'll damage or kill your livie you just spent 3 hours trying to catch and only managed to get 6.
  18. For absolute value for money and toughness get an ugly stik gold. I'd go for on of the 7ft or 8ft models in 6-10kg, which come in 2 peice. Or if you want to sacrifice some of the level of control you have over the fish, there are some shorter models which could double up as a boat rod down the track.
  19. Yep, absolutely, they cast the same, all that's required before you cast the direct wind model is to tighten the tension knob so the reel free spinning dosnt mess up your cast.
  20. Yes and No. Yes it's true with the direct wind models, you need to palm the reel to create drag. No it's not true because drag models exist, and the drag is quite smooth. The guy in the camping store might not have been aware that they exist. Here are some photos of drag models
  21. Awesome job there repairing the winch post. I might have used a ratchet strap instead of the chain and that tensioning bolt. Definitely some intervention from above for that near miss.
  22. Antonywardle They take a little getting used to but Youll only ever know if you get one and try, but personally I'm very in love with alvey reels and our feelings for each other have grown over the past 4 years ? so much so alveys are pretty much all I use for rock, beach, estuary and boat, obviously can't use it for jigging kings...I'm also trying to sell my other gear if anyone is Interested, there's some stuff in swap and sell, and got some more gear laying around (hint hint) Fire away with any questions.
