i have had this happen a few times in pittwater
as said already drop down to your light outfits and fish unweighted baits
you want your baited hook to sink down at the same speed as the rest of the burley it it sinks faster or slower it will look abnormal and the kings wont touch it
ive also had luck dropping a knife jig down and jigging while they are around the boat
-
starting to look a little better
keen to get stuck into some kingys tomorrow
regardless of conditions should be able to find some where to fish inside pittwater
-
go the trinidad and pimp it out with a jigging master handle
damm sexy reel

i use my iphone 80% of time as im sooo busy with work..

you can pickup wireless routers these days for around $70 and then get a usb network card thats supported by your mac
then u just need to plug the cable from your broadband into the back of the router then it will enable your new laptop to connect to the wireless and you can then stick the usb dongle into your desktop mac and it too will be able to connect to your wireless
a usb dongle that will work on a mac will cost around $70 one such usb card is the Netcomm NP745N

6.2:1 is way too fast for jigging for kings
you want some thing in the 4. range
for your budget a good reel would be the Daiwa Saltist STT50 this is 4.9-1 which is more suited for jigging
should be able to put a good 3-400mtrs of 30lb on there they go for around $290
and if you dont like to lay line there is also a level wind model STT50A-LW they go for around $320
you want slower gear ratios for jigging as you will be fighting fish on the bottom not on the surface
and you want and need the power to pull them up off the reefs
as for lever vs star drag this is more of a personal choice
i prefer lever as i can just look down at the reel and now what my drag is set at with star you dont really have an idea
the advantage or a star drag over a lever is that when you have the drag up tight on a lever drag reel the handle also becomes harder to turn compared to the star drag reel which will turn as it would be no drag applied if that makes sence
all comes down to what you prefer to use
my overhead combo is a jigging master power spell PE3 its a lever drag and its gears are 1 :4.0 its perfect for jigging for kings its very light and has a ton of power
little over your budget tho

i believe around 15-20kg for a session of cubing is around normal
-
on one of my jigging dvds filmed in NZ one of the jiggers uses a similar method
once hes connected to a fish he backs the drag way off so the fish forgets its even hooked
now he can bring the fish to the surface without it trying to brick him
allows you to fish for bigger fish using lighter gear
seems to work on 30+kg kingies

its a jigging master powerspell 150gm rod and a jigging master pe3 reel with 300mtrs of pe4 saltiga boat braid
total outfit costs around the $1000 mark depending where u get it
this was my first time jigging with a overhead all my other jig outfits are spin didnt take too long to get use to it
we didnt have any issues with jackets my first drop i caught a jacket but thats the only one i saw
didnt loose any jigs (well i did drop one over board by accident)
was a great day out
-
was a great day on the water
first up Billy your a absolute legend thanks again for a great day on the water looking forward to seeing a big bend in your jigwrex
was great to break in the new out fit she handled it with ease
cant wait to get back out there and get stuck into some more winter kings
thanks again mate

nice work nice kings good work for sticking to the fishing even when spewing
but word of warning be careful with those rods they have a tendency to snap
i would go very easy on the drag
im sure if netic sees this post he might comment on the rod
-
also depends on what you want the reel to do
the saltist would be better off the stones throwing lures around as its got a faster gear ratio (6.1-1)
while the saragosa has a much slower ratio for battling big fish and makes a great jigging reel (4.9-1)
-
+ 1 for the saragosa
the saragosa is the pimped version of the speros
will cost a little more but is a superior reel
-
great work as usual John
is it just me or is every one down sizing there jigging outfits these days
i have just got myself a new JM PE3 combo sure is alot easier to use then my PE8
-
yep
my mate keeps his at kennards self storage at mona vale
from memory its like $200 a month

If I set the drag up with 10kg drag and use 80lb main line will that be ok? My main problem is not the weight of the fish it is the fish rubbing the line on reefs etc and breaking it off that way. That's why I want to put heavier line to stop losing tackle so easy. I am not catching any over a metre and if I do find out how and where to catch them it will definatly be time for an upgrade.
running 80lb on that rod is pointless
if you are getting rubbed off on reefs use bigger leaders like some 100lb
you dont need super heavy gear to land kings we have landed kings on 8lb braid with 10lb leaders in 15mtrs of water around moorings
-
its only water
all goes to plan ill be hitting the peak and the 12 jigging on sunday
-
12kg is only 26 pounds
i would stick 20-30lb on there and go easy on the drag
what reel are u using and what are u fishing for
-
nice work very jealous
was this a jigging trip or they caught on the troll, bait ?
the safety line in that photo leads me to think they were taken on the troll ?
-
for a powerspell 350gm in Oz your looking at around $550 all the way down to around the $500 mark for the 100gm
ofcourse with a bit or bargaining you can lower these prices
there great rods ive got a 300gm matched with a saragosa running 80lb and a 150gm matched with a Jigging Master PE3 reel running 30lb
not only are they great rods they look great
so even if you dont catch fish you look good trying haha
-
the 350 is a beast
ive got a 3kings special 300gm and its a beast 33kg at 50° and a massive 18.5kg at 90°
its alot lighter then the powerspell 350 and a hell out alot more power
ill PM you a local sydney shop
-
bring it on
no babies in my future
you got my info
-
a big tailor ?
-
running 80lb braid on a 10kg stick is pointless
u want your line to snap before you rod does
that reel only has around 7kg of drag
i would stick some 30lb on there
SquidKing Combo if using live squid i wouldn't be using any burley around the moorings or any of the wrecks as you will just get tailor and jackets eating your livies
if i try burley for kings i just cube pillys and throw one peice out every min or so dont go crazy as you will just bring on the rubbish fish and ruin the fishing for others who come to the spot
the kings in pitty move around alot so much of the time its just luck there are there when you are
