  1. If 2 stroke it could be fuel mixture running out the carb and the problem is a damaged reed valve...
  2. Great work boys, we are temporarily desperate and boatless (little job turned into a major project - I suppose it will all be worth in in the long run!) Ohh boy am I getting the jitters,,,hanging to get out there... Cheers, Jewie
  3. Well it started out simply enough..... Popped a reed on our '91 Mariner 40 HP, 2 grumpy old blokes with engineering backgrounds, should be simple enough to fix, after all what could go wrong???????? Well, old mate number 1, being a bit anal decided the the only way forward was a complete rebuild, so its taken a month, but the power head is now 100%, but I can't get over the sight of him with a toothbrush and a bucket of degreaser, scrubbing out the exhaust gallery! (And the inside of the leg!) Well the motor was off the boat, maybe we should give the hull a tidy up, (late 80s Quinnie Fishabout) 2 days of sanding, pulling every fitting off, well to make this neat, we should take off the windscreen... BAD Move... anyone know where we can get a new windcreen? Cheers Chris
  4. The big green harware store has a wide range holesaws, just need an electric drill with an appropriate chuck size. Caution!!!!! Have a real good look beneath the location where you plan to cut the hole for wires, hoses, structural members and the hull! Make sure you cutting angle won't cause you a serious problem! Cheers Jewie
  5. I would support that! RYou bunging on S&P Squid for dinner? Cheers Chris
  6. Hey Swordie, there is a really safe gutter cut into a rock ledge you can fish from a higher ledge... Its at Bannisters Point, just behind Rick Stein's house. Thats where I got the first Drummer on a lure in fishraider records! 35.19.35.13S 250.29.05.44E (GPS coords) I'd wait a month or so...for the water to cool a bit. I know a few spots around Sydney, but I may be too old and f*cked up to climb in there any more... Cheers Chris
  7. Yeah guys. I am going to have to take a leaf out of Byrons book and Sit Back and relax....switch over to the dark side and start using bait!
  8. What about we organise a Fishraider Leatherjacket comp and knock their numbers down a bit?
  9. Great work Choicebro! Haven't soon one that big out of the hacking for years! Rathanes?
  10. Pin hole leak in the water jacket gasket?
  11. PS Scratie, Got a GPS mark on that?
  12. Hi Guys, My boat mate has twice hooked a cast lure onto my Fireblood 4000 and matching firebood rod rig and flicked it out of the rocket launcher in the last three years, First time we cast about 750000 times with metals and managed to snag it back out of 6 metres of water in the lower Georges.. Second time, he didn't hesitate, but went straight over the side ..chasing it in the bay.. ... maybe I ought to buy some lanyards!
  13. Mate, you were using last years tackle and lures.. You need to go to a tackle shop and get this years fashion! Thats what my local tackle shop guy tells me
  14. I would get an Alvey (650A or C) any day. Sooner or later fishing the beach you WILL get sand in the reel. ALvey_ No prob, just wash it in the surf! Anything else=Major service... as the Merkat says..."Simples" Best of luck Chris
  15. If twas me, and living where you do. I would get up to the rail bridge at brooklyn...Just on the east side 70M NW is a reef Its just within casting diistance Last 2 hrs of the run out at sunset or dawn. You will need a heavy rig as you need a 6 oz sinker to hold bottom I was on a trip out there with a couple of notable Raiders a few years ago and the Tally was NINE bigguns! Let us know how you go! Chris
  16. Hi Kel Whoopey! Wel done mate. I checked out flattie fillets at the fish shop $50 a Kilo! and fun catcing them to boot,,,, Cheers Chris
  17. Hi Mate, best bet is to cath the bugger... That way you will know what it is. OOPS! forgot.. Its called Fishing,,,,,not catching! Best of luck and let us know????? Cheers Chris
  18. Great work mate, used to fish there in the 60's and never did that good! Chris
  19. Hey Colin, no offence intended mate I was a local there in the 70s and eighties.Got some great flatties under the Fig tree bridge... People these days are more cautious than in my day That why I am now old and F*cked up and you are still a young fella with a shining bright future! the earlier poster is right about the age of that fish, if a bit light on. we care for our members, hence the advice best of luck on future outings and yes it was a GREAT fish. Cheers Chris
  20. Be very careful! its a bit exposed, so keep a really sharp eye on the swell patterns May full moon with a Pilly on gangs five metres under a bobby.bloody big tailor! Just be friggin carefull Chris
  21. Nice breambo mate! I don't think its a good idea to eat them tho. You may not grow a third eye. just your left nut drops off! stay safe mate Chris
  22. Hi Mate, don't forget the plastics. I got the first and still the second biggest drummer fishraider record on a plastic, 6 wrap carbon fibre rod Alvey 650C locked up 7Kg mono - its what I had on the reel in the 90s Chartruese gulp swimming mullet 3/8 2/0 jig head The bugger reefed me, but I recognised what was going in and went slack on him for a few minutes..... when he started moving again, I damn near broke the rod keeping his head up and managed to wash him onto a shelf. Never give up! If you are snagged with a fish on, he's probably not smart enough to have gone around a reef, just under it He's gotta come out sometime! Big bream off the rocks do the same thing. Just be patient! Cheers Chris
  23. Friggin Geat! Terrific work guys, finally nice to see some bigguns. Only thing is I am cying cause I have some free time finally and our boat has spat its donk! Hope to get it fixed and get out again soon. Cheers Chris
  24. I'm a bit old fashioned but I always used a fast taper 8 or nine wrap overhead rod for this stuff. Coupled with a seascape or Abu7000 or Shimano triton Mag/ What you need is a crowbar with a flicky tip and a reel with guts! What is out the ATM guys? Chris
