  1. Went out this morning with a mate to North Harbour this morning, Friday being my day off. With a southerly blowing and the barometric pressure down we weren't expecting much. With the southerly blowing we went to North Harbour to get some protection - we only have a small tinny. First spot burley'd hard for donuts and after 1 hour decided to try another spot. Moved to the second spot and after a good 40 minutes of burley sent out we were getting ready to move again when the first of 4 trevally jumped on. All were between 31-35cm. Also caught 6 small to medium yakka's - good to see them back for summer. After the bite slowed we slow trolled one back towards Little Manly and had a good strike but no hookup. Stopped off at one of Harbour Markers and caught a Seargant Baker on a sluggo soft plastic! No surface action seen. A fun morning, dinner provide even if it was a bit slow. Looking forward to Summer. Cheers The Rev
  2. Awesome job. I was out on Manly beach with fishing with pilchards on Tuesdayat a similar time but not a touch. Good on you!
  3. Hi Fellow Raiders I'm heading up the coast for a few days off next week staying at Copacabana and wanted to fish at South Avoca off the rocks or beach- haven't been there for 10 years. Does anyone know if much has been coming in from the rock platform or off the beach? The Rev
  4. Thanks Mike- fascinating how the fish can be one place and not another! Glad to hear you got a few fish yourself. The Rev
  5. We got them in close around the middle harbour area - water depth was only about 6ft - check out the article on this site about squidding in the harbour - i found it very helpful Cheers The Rev
  6. Went out yesterday for the day. Trolled up a few bonito and Salmon before heading over to middle harbour. Managed to get my first squid ever in the harbour (6 actually) Headed off to the Harbour to some of the channel markers. No luck at the first couple before finding a patch of kings on one of them. Caught 5 in 30 mnutes of action packed fun - only one legal one though (they went 60, 62, 63, 64 & 67cms) - this was my first legal king for me in the harbour since moving up here two years ago! We had 4 other boats around us with live yakka's, soft plastics etc and not getting one bite. It was amazing the difference the fresh squid made - a big thank you to all the fellow fishraiders and the squiding advice given. Didn't see much surface action at all during the day - but all in all, a great time out. Cheers The Rev
  7. It does look cool - they are the up lights in the bamboo on our back fence!
  8. Hi fellow fishermen/women, Went out for a quick beach fish off the local rock pool last night at 9:00pm down from where I live (Lower Northern Beaches). After one year here I have never had the time to throw in a line so I decided with the water warming up tonight was the night. One other guy was out and he got 2 nice fish off the rocks up from where I was. One was a salmon and the other a nice tailor that would have been 50cm. At 10:15pm and minimal action I decided to pack up - I had told my wife I would only be 1 hour - famous last words! I threw out one last bait - the last pilchard on the ganged hooks and said a quick prayer (I am the local minister!) and proceeded to pack up my equipment. Last of all I went to wind in the 12' beachrod and wammo - something jumped on! After a good fight I landed a 70cm Jewfish - not huge but not bad either. Looking forward to dinner tonight! The Rev
  9. Hi there - sorry for the late reply. Similar to what Flathead said, I pin them through the nose if drifting or slow trolling so that they follow the boat nicely. As I try and only use small yakkas (12cm) one hook is plenty. Just fish with the reel out of gear and them let take the bait down for a few secs before striking. I added a small ball sinker to get them down off the surface.
  10. This is my first post after reading many. I fished off Wollongong for many years and moved up to Sydney a year ago. It's taken me this long to finally catch a SH king! I snuck out with a mate (Paul) for a pre-work fish. Caught a few yakkas in North Harbour and went to the North Head channel markers and did a few slow drifts. Managed 1 king 58cm - bit of fun the sent him home to live another day. Managed a smaller one off the middle head markers - 48cm then headed off to work. Great to be out and finally manage my first Sydney Harbour kings. thanks to all the other fishraiders for your posts - they have been very helpful. Have a great christmas The Rev
