  1. Thanks for the update Tyrone. Do you know what temperature they tend to disappear at? The Rev
  2. Hi fellow Raiders with light winds predicted Friday I was just wondering if anyone knows if there are still dollies holding on the Dee Why Fad of the Manly Hydraulics wave rider buoy 2kms further out? Any info appreciated ? The Rev
  3. Very cool story - I loved that you got your rid back with the fish! Where abouts were you fishing roughly? the rev
  4. Hi there I live round the corner from there. The pool is best fished at high tide. I've caught flathead (62cm) bream (35cm) and jewfish (80cm) from there. My preference though is 75 metres south of the pool on the beach at high tide in the gutter that often runs out from the beach there. You can get good whiting, bream, trevally and flathead with the odd jewfish. I've even surfed right over a 1M jewfish that was just swimming along in about 1.2metres of water at 9am in the morning on one occasion! best of luck the Rev
  5. Thanks ACJ for the report. I have been trying to catch some kings in the harbour on my few trips out pre and post Christmas and had no luck. Seems like it is a bit tough at the moment. The Rev
  6. Quick question... any size to the tailor? The Rev
  7. Awesome! glad you got a couple and had a great day. Cheers The Rev
  8. Hi there, Sounds like a great day out, encouraging to see fish appearing at the heads - however are they Kingfish you are holding? They look like Australian Salmon?
  9. thanks - I'll give it a goCheers The Rev
  10. Hi Fellow Raiders This Season I have set myself the goal of catching some bigger kings in Sydney Harbour. I am wanting to get a few over the magical 1metre mark if possible and know that from all I have read - using live squid as the bait is key. I have caught stacks of rat kings with the occasional legal one being hooked. Biggest has been 74cm. So Friday I went out for my first real targeted trip in Sydney Harbour to try and catch some squid then see if I could hook a King. I know that the season is early but have heard reports that there are kings around. After 2 1/2 hours of squidding we came up donuts! Not one touch. I have caught them on and off in small numbers in past years but want to master the dark art of catching squid this year so that I can get amongst the kings. Any tips would be appreciated :-) I fish out of a fairly new Renegade 420 Quintrex with 40hp Suzuki on the back that is all set up with live bait tank and have an electric motor on the front to help with moving around and spot locking when lure casting. Cheers The Rev
  11. Went out this morning for a quick fish out from the little Manly boat ramp on the public holiday Monday. It was better than the last time I went out when we only got 1 leather jacket 10 days ago. Manage to get these six keepers, 2 Bream, one Tarwine and 3 Trevally. The biggest Trevally went 37 cm. we then went to middle harbour west of spit bridge as I had heard reports of salmon and kingfish. Alas, no action sighted or found[emoji20] Cheers The Rev
  12. Hi Fellow Raiders The Green contingent are at work again with proposed lock outs now to include ALL MANLY, NORTH HARBOUR, NORTH HEAD and LONG REEF as reported by one of our local fishing magazines. Here is the article quote... First up today 59 different fishing spots have been earmarked for potential rec fishing lockouts under the Sydney Marine Park proposal, including all of North Head, most of North Harbour and all of Long Reef. This is despite not a shred of credible scientific evidence to suggest why this should happen, and is a result of lies and propaganda from extremist green groups directed at the general non-fishing public. The inaugural Gone Fishing Day is less than two months away. This is a great opportunity to let the rest of Australia know how strong recreational fishing is in this country. There will be heaps of things to do around the country on that day but most important is that you wet a line one way or another on October 16th. If we can show the rest of the community how strong our numbers really are through things like the Gone Fishing Day then hopefully one day in the future we won't have to put up with the sort of garbage that is being touted under the Sydney Marine Park proposal. To see the article go to http://www.fishingworld.com.au/news/sydney-s-long-reef-and-north-harbour-earmarked-for-lockouts?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Newsletter%2018082016&utm_content=Newsletter%2018082016+CID_3edac22ecf7e45fdad2feed7ce7684a1&utm_source=Email%20marketing%20software&utm_term=North%20Head%20most%20of%20North%20Harbour%20and%20all%20of%20Long%20Reef My question is - what can be done to protest this? Thoughts??? The Rev
  13. hi againUnfortunately the sea was just a bit rough to get close to where the wash action was. We ended up coming back into the harbour and fished Balmoral. Looking forward to when the sea is flat and I can give it a try again. Thank you for all your help. The Rev
  14. thanks - I'll let you know how we go. Boat is all packed and ready [emoji106][emoji2]
  15. Hi fellow fish raiders, Hoping to get out Friday on my off and hit the washes around North Head (swell permitting) for drummer and bream etc as I know they are around. As I've not fished for drummer before I was wanting a few tips on rigs and bait etc Any help appreciated :-) The Rev
  16. I know - it was a 7'2" Berkley Drop Shot with a 2500 Shimano Symetre running 10lb braid. I have caught heaps of fish with it from Kings up to 68cm, massive 60cm+ flathead and Salmon to 70cm. Might be time for an upgrade!
  17. In North Harbour and Balmoral - we were fishing in about 6 metres of water. See comments above for fishing method. Some caught off the bottom - some floating baits down a burley trail. Cheers The Rev
  18. It's still a bit dirty but not too bad and plenty fishable. The fish are sitting down a bit deeper under any of the fresh left over The Rev
  19. Fished with cut baits. Salted bonito and salted tailor fillets along with Hawkesbury prawns. I'm a failed soft plastic fisherman! The tailor and flathead were caught off the bottom. The bream and trevally with unweighted baits drifted down a chicken pellet trail of burley. The Rev
  20. There are still fish around in the Harbour including some winter tailor. I'm on the back end of long service leave after being overseas and have been out twice this week with a mate and my son... Tuesday (21st) we bagged out on tailor while also getting some bream up to 33cm and trevally and flathead. The tailor were from 32cm-42cm Sadly I lost my favourite bream rod in the moorings at Balmoral. I put it down for a moment and then looked up only to see it hooked up and swimming off into the deep[emoji30]. I went to grab it and missed by 5cm! We caught trevally and flathead in Balmoral and tailor and flathead up in North Harbour. Friday (24th) my son and I took refuge from the winds up in North Harbour among the moorings and landed 4 nice flathead up to 46cm and one very large 55cm green back tailor. The tailor came up a treat when filleted, skinned and beer battered! Tight lines The Rev
  21. Thanks for the feedback - all very helpful
  22. As I continue my research for a 420 sized open tinny for fishing out of manly with a deep V to handle a bit of swell I have come across the Brooker420D. Any thoughts on the hull design and how tippy / stable it is at rest with the deep V? Cheers The Rev
