  2. Hi Fellow Raiders, We are currently up at Coolangatta on holidays having a great time. Decided to take my son and my daughters boyfriend out on a charter today. After an an early start (5am Queensland time we headed out through the Tweed Heads to be greeted by a fairly tough sea to fish in. Onshore winds at sunrise stronger than what was forecast greeted us as we powered out. After a fairly quiet morning, the livey off the back goes off. Isaac (daughters boyfriend grabbed the rod and proceeded to fight the fish. After 10 minutes on the rod he passed it off to me and we managed to land this great Dollie that went 122cm. While we didn't catch much else - we sure were happy with this fish Cheers The Rev

  11. great to see the squid being caught in numbers - well done
  12. they taste nice when filleted, skinned, blood lines and quadrilateral line / bones cut out - then just a light pan fry with olive oil and finish with some lemon juice & butter to at the end. Best 3/4 cooked as they get quite dry if over cooked. Also good as sashimi - though be careful cutting as the flesh is quite delicate. cheers The Rev
  13. Awesome fish and story - thanks The Rev

  17. Just a quick post today. Went out with my son today (he had the day off as well today). It was one of those slow days where every time you moved you found a few more fish but no real stand out bites. I think that the southerly front that came through might have affected the bite around the high tide mark? We left from the Manly boat ramp about 6am and fished on the inside of Quarantine Station for a nice Tarwine of 31cm (first for me), a leather jacket and a just legal Trevally - also 31cm. Then we moved to off Grotto point. More burley, more bites and a few nice fish - a 32cm Bream and a 36cm Trevally. Things starting to improve I thought as we approached the 8:35am high tide but before the bite petered out again :-( For our last move we went into the moorings at Balmoral. A fortnight ago we had snared 8 Trev's on the top of tide - maybe again today? No such luck. We got just one more Trev of 34cm. What we did snag was a nice blue-swimmer that managed to hook himself while munching on the peeled prawn :-) After 5 minutes of untangling him from the net we finally got him in the esky. Happy days! Anyway - not a bad little feed for the day. Headed home after a coffee and bacon and egg roll at Balmoral. Cheers The Rev
  18. Hi Groper - no it is a new cafe that opened around Easter this year at the Balmoral Boat shed - called the Boat Shed! It is right next to the harbour swimming enclosure down the south end of Balmoral. Very nice food and coffee!
