Penguin
Hi there fellow raiders, My mate Bill,Crazy John and I,fished the harbour today,we set off from Rose Bay at 6ish,and went towards nth head in the hope of finding us some Sambos, but they were not there,so we started to troll outside and turned north and went up past Bluefish pt,did a turn back south and as we approached nth head there was bird activity spotted inside the Harbour. We continued to troll towards the birds for no hits,we wound in our rods, then we threw some metals at the Sambos as they were all around us. They kept on the move so we had to keep chasing them and keep throwing at em.In about 2 1/2hrs we had plenty of hook ups but could only manage to land 6. We went to one of the Wedding cakes for a while and only caught 1 legal Flattie, and we also had a visit from the water police who did a, licence and safety equipment check. We then went to Doyles at Watsons Bay and had a good feed, and a bit of a lie down in the sun.At this point we were trying to decide whether to call it a day or resume fishing. We decided to fish for 1/2 an hr more over at Clifton Gardens,if it was slow we would leave. We got there and began to burley, all was quiet for the 1st 20mins,then Crazy John lands a Trev, then Bill a Trev, then we hear the scream of my drag goin balistic,I grab the rod and this fish just kept goin and goin,I carefully applied pressure to the spool with my thumb in a bid to slow this fishes run as I was almost out of line.He eventualy stopped and I started to recover some line, then he was off again, then I got more line back only to lose it again, this tug of war lasted about 15mins then we saw him,a nice Kingy he took one look at us and straight down he goes out of site.A few mins later hes up and tired and in our net,a healthy King of 71cm.Bill grabs the dig for a photo,I say let me bait up and throw my line back in 1st,I pick up the king and smile and as Bill said "say cheese",ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ my rod that had just touched the water screams again,I grab it and Crazy John says,"Ohhhh no,not again".I managed to stop this fishes run and it was a repeat of the tug of war I had with the 1st King. When we saw this one he looked bigger and fatter, and he didnt like the look of Bill with the net,and he took off down and under the other side of the boat, collecting Johns line over and over again as he continued to circle down below us.I was bent over the side with 1/2 my little rod in the water,so as to not be cut off on the underside of the boat,he was eventually bought up to a metre below the surface, all of Johns tangled up fishing line had now fouled my rod tip and I could no longer reel him in,I called John every name under the sun,for not winding his rod up when asked earlier. At this point I lifted my rod as high as I could and Bill leaned over the side with the net,and reached down as far as he could as I held onto his belt with one hand just in case, and my rod with the other. Thankfully the King offered no more resistance and Bill netted him.He went 75cm and was much rounder than the 1st.We were getting ready to re-bait and cast out again when a Navy boat came over and asked us to move a little away as were drifting a little close to the exclusion zone around the Naval jetty. The skipper on the navy boat told us that we were wasting our time in that area as there were no fish around anymore,as the navy boys had caught em all,I picked up the 2 Kings and showed them to him,his response was "Shit,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,move away anyhow",the other navy guy onboard had a chuckle at the old skipper, and we moved 50mtrs away, and they left and so did the fish.We burleyd again for 1/2 an hr before we got anything,a 43cm flattie, then for the next 30mins we got,4 more Trevs and 4 Bream. At this point we decided to call it a day. Sorry for the long report guys. The Kings and I, Bill and a Salmon More Sambos Edited August 23, 2006 by penguin

Flightmanager
Great report Penguin , if this is what is able to be caught at this time of year , come the warmer months we may well have to invest in more server space to accomodate all of the reports! You must have had a ripper of a day between the fish , the weather and lunch at Doyles !! Ross

barrykrocker
do you think those kings indicate a really strong season coming up or is it kinda normal?
Penguin
do you think those kings indicate a really strong season coming up or is it kinda normal? I hope its an indication of better things to come, the harbour can only improve with the pros gone, and the banning of those Kingy traps a few years ago,had to have helped,or maybe we were just in the right place at the right time. penguin Edited August 24, 2006 by penguin

BRING ON SUMMMMMMER cheers gr8 catch steve Yes mate the prawns were floated down the burley trail as usual, and I dont know why you cant find Green Endeaver prawns, just about every fish shop/market I try has em,they are called Green for some reason even though they are a pinkish white colour, and they are a good size prawn, and cheap usualy under $13per kg.The fish shop at Pacific Square shopping centre on Anzac Pde Maroubra, and the one at Eastgardens shopping centre Pagewood always have them. Good luck and I look forward to your next report. penguin
