Polynemus_sheridani
Hi everyone finally a report worth reporting about. KOCHO, Dominic and I had a charter booked for Sunday and with only 3 of us going, the rest pulled out we had the whole game boat to ourselves. We headed out of Port Hacking at 6.30am and headed to the bait grounds to find a very large school of slimes on the surface being worked by 5 or so dolphins. Only took us about 5 or 10 min to load up with some great size slimes (20 to 30cm) and then we headed on out. We started to troll a lure spread of 4 marlin lures and 1 on the shotgun for a Wahoo. About 30 min later bang of goes the right rigger and in large white water mess the line is screaming off the tigara at a rate of knots only to be dropped a few seconds later then we started to turn the boat around and then it come back and hit the shotgun lure and again it didn’t hookup We trolled around the area for a good 20min but nothing, so we headed of about another 20 min later I was up on the bridge when I looked out to the north and I seen this large splash and then all of a sudden this marlin came out of the water free jumping about 10 meters so we headed over to the area on the way we seen a large school of sea gars about 40cm long going very quickly going the other direction away from the marlin so we worked the current lines but nothing. We then headed to the FAD and checked it out and not a thing on it at all quite on the western front as they say. So we decided to head out towards browns and see what was going on out there, when arrived at browns where there must have been about 10 or more boats trolling and bottom bashing around browns. We seen one boat backing down on a fish but it didn’t jump. We decided to stop for a while and send a bait down to the bottom and see if we could get something. Well it only took about 20 min and the first drop we where solid on a fish, we strapped KOCHO onto the rod and harness him up on tigara 50w and he started winding about 15 min later out of the depths came a 16kg Blue eye see pic below. After the photos and getting the line cleaned up we decided to send another bait down to the bottom, we then had slack line then tight line then slack line so we decided to bring it on up, then the rod decided to bend over and we had either picked up something that had run us into the bottom or what but that line wasn’t moving, then all of a sudden the line came free and we stated winding, about 10 min later in came a nice gemfish of about 2kg forgot to take a picture sorry. Well that was it we then decided to call it quits on the bottom and go back to marlin fishing, we decided to put out the lives, we put 3 out and started a long troll back towards home, we had no hits on the lives so after about 1 hour we pulled them in and went back to lures and away we went. We then seen a school of birds working some bait we moved in close to find a school of stripes working them we trolled around without a hit, moved on and then a boat near us was hooked up and backing down on fish, tag in and released it, we when all of a sudden turned around and then there was marlin free jumping not far away we trolled into the area and work the current line but without a hit and still 20 miles from home to kept trolling back. That was it for the day no another hit or any other action for the rest of the day, well we missed out on a marlin but we got a great fish to eat and all in all it was a great day, the water is looking better all the time and the weather was great all day long. Maybe the blueeye might make the fishing records? Thanks Craig Edited February 5, 2007 by Polynemus_sheridani
