xiphias_gladius
Sadly I missed this trip due to breaking my hand (5th Metacarpal) the night before this trip, so report is on behalf of a mate... Left Kiama and headed for the Canyon's as usual for a bit of cubing and berleying action - hoping for a few Yellowfin and maybe a Mako.... Hit the 30fth Reef and biat everywhere so stop and jig for a few slimeys. Loaded up with bait and headed for the shelf..... Hit the 60's and heaps of stripeys everywhere so out go a couple of xmas trees and land 5 before hitting the shelf and set-up a cube trail on the canyons. Early on is a bit slow but a few other boats are reporting fish so still anticipating a bite. Around 10ish a cube gets nailed and after a brief battle on 15kg a 24kg 'fin hits the deck. Shortly after another cube goes off and a 17kg model is pinned. Start to berley pretty hard around midday (looking for a Mako) and one of the 15 kg outfits goes off again - this time a 200kg+ Mako takes to the air for a series of at least 6 jumps towards the boat .... Then take a crash dive stripping at least 400m off at a blistering pace before chewing through the mono... Typical Shark takes the pillie on mono in stead of comming to the boat for a shark bait... Couple more stripies on the way in, all in all a pretty good day on the water.... When we get back, proceed to rub it in to mate who has a broken hand. Trav and Marc. Thanks Guys......XG.
