Fun Arvo At Avoca

Hi Raiders, I went down for a quick fish this arvo about 4:30,

a noreaster was blowing but it wasn't too strong, still okay to

fish, anyway I caught a big salmon and boy he pulled hard,

broad sided me in the break and he was hard to budge,

a good fight and I eventually got him up the beach.

Then I caught 2 bream which was a surprise as I hadn't

caught one for a while, kept the bigger one he was 34cm's.

Out went another pilly tail and got smashed by a small

flathead, not quite big enough for me so I returned the

little fella. I had had enough now , hungry and cool so

I had one last cast, waited for a few mins and then Whammo !

the pilly tail was taken by another big salmon, he fought like

a train, I tell ya these things know how to use the surf to their

advantage, a short time after he was on the beach, hooks

extracted and he was on his way.

So that was my arvo/evening at Avoca, a lot of fun and a fish

for my beloved (Karen) she loves bream.

A Toothy Bream...

g'day ray, mate i've been surfing avoca a fair bit lately and there has been so many schools of salmon out there it's crazy :1prop: last friday i was constantly surrounded by massive schools of salmon and a pod of dolphins kept coming by and smashing the fish.it was an awesome sight to see.try the gutter just north of the pines or the gutter of lake street north av.

Onya Ray!

You and Peter (Mercer007) certainly have the salmon situation sorted at Avoca.

They're a good size alright and fighting them in the surf is different to a boat. (Much more fun!)

Excellent photos. I love the toothy bream shot and a "clean salmon" is good to see for a change. :074:

It's also a top photo of you too with the beach in the background. Like Slinky says, that gutter looks great.

Excellent report!

Cheers

Peter

nice goin Ray, gotta love the fight they put up.

We went out this morning for salmon and i got 4 big ones within 15min, a lot around still. Caught mine with 40g spinner and owner treble i put on, always change hooks that come with spinners etc to good quality ones.

Cheers,

Leo

Nice little Avoca session Ray and a nice 34cms take home bream for Karen, my Shirley prefers eating freshly caught bream over anything else these days and particularly a nice fat beach bream  .....Looks like you've got a top camera in that one Ray and that's a really nice portrait photo the lady bystander took of yourself with the background scenery and everything looks nicely focussed and natural.....By the way Ray, the only suggestion I would make would be to add some packing to the sides of your hat, but don't overdue it mate, too much packing at the sides of your hat would look like you're about to give your regular bystanders some good beach fishing tips followed by a beach cooking lesson on video :D

Cheers

Ray, Well Done!!! and a nice bream.

Just wondering can you catch them on gang hooks as I have always caught them on long shanks in the estuaries. but would not mind getting my hands on one.

I am aiming on getting up there on Saturday arvo to try and get a couple more salmon as the freezer is empty now and the Mrs is not happy.

And Love your photos it makes me want to move up there.... such a awsome place.

Regards,

Nathan,

Hi Steve, park at the lake car park , walk down the track to the shark tower and that's it,

a huge deep hole right in front of the tower..
