Tiger Cam
Like many others, I have a dodgy back. I am currently on the recovery trail from a back operation – all good . I am looking to get back on the water soon. Hence I am seeking advice from those that may have a solution to minimise the jarring affect that a 4.5m tinny has on even the mildest of chop. My current solution is a cushion on top of the seat. See photo below. This provides marginal improvement. I know that there are others out there suffering the same issues and would be appreciative if you would share your inventive thoughts / ideas . An idea that I have is a shock absorber type fitting under the seat - does this already exist? Thanks, Cam PS..... For those of you with chronic back pain and interested in my operation I would be happy to share my positive experience.
abecedarian
Seems to me that what you need is a suspension chair like what you get in tractors! That'd soften your ride, but not sure how it would all go in the salt...
austral
if you can get your mate to drive and try and sit at the back of the boat that should help..
BWV
You can get shock absorbing seat but they cost a fortune anything from a 1k to upwards of 25k, you may find cheaper ones out there but rust is a big problem and the way some of the cheaper ones operate, if you where to go over a large wave and grab the bottom of your seat you would chop your fingers off when you came back down by the shock absorbing mechanism so just keep that in mind. Thanks Austral - I do a fair bit of solo fishing. Thanks for the tips Whaler. Hi Cam, soft rider pedestals are what you want and not that dear-we have fitted them to both new and secondd hand boats and they work well. Cheers, Huey. Cheers Huey. I'll contact you soon. Gday Cam, the best way to look after your back is remove the seat and stand up when under way. Standing is also painful - I try to bend my knees to act as a shock absorber, but it's all in the timing!
armin
hey mate, what about one of those inflatable doughnut's you can get from the chemist, or even a inflatable cushion, i think inflatable will absorb the blow a lot more than a regular cusion. Deno has been using one for quite a while now and rates it very highly. I have seen some very flash 'shock absorbing' seats in some of the local fisheries boats. Would you mind posting a couple of photos for us to have a look at Huey? Cheers Hodgey

Geoff
Cam Sounds like the chair from Huey & perhaps the rubber from Gary is the way to go. I had the same problem some years back , bought a twin hull boat , no more tinny bang or sore back. Problem , it cost a lot more than a new chair but it was time for an up grade anyway. Geoff G'day Geoff I can justify the chair ... the boat upgrade would be a strecth at the moment but at least I have a better idea of what the requirements of the next boat should be . Twin hulls are renown for ride and stability so would definitely be in the equation. Cheers Cam
