Left yesterday morning, 4/8/11, with hope of finding a few YFT, after running out for a little while we set the lures and relaxed for a few hours and saw nothing. Stuck to our plan and started cubing just after midday. About and hour and half later the Tiagra 30 starts screaming and line dissappeared rapidly. After 4 and a half hours and getting towed east 4 miles we finally sunk the gaffs into this beast. Not to sure how heave it is as we haven't weighed it but guessing around the 80kg mark. It was my mates first good fish and he is hurting today. He did an awesome job consider it was on 15kg line and with a 40lb leader.

Cheers

Cam

G'day guys,

Well i certainly wasn't expecting the debate on the weight of the fish to cause such a stir. To let you all know we weighed it clean and it went 68kgs, that was after taking about 15 full slimmies, about the same amout of full squid, about 2 kilos of cubes from our trail and its guts so i am going to stick by my guess of 80kg as it seems as we throw away atleast 10kgs from its insides. It was a really fat solid fish, a mate got a 65kg fish about a month ago and his fish was shorter and was no were near as fat as this thing.

Unfortunately the cases of beer in the photos was at the skippers bar, we put the fish in the cool room for the night and didn't get to enjoy the fish with all the beer, just a few of them.

Rabs - commented about us being in the Pro Line CC, yes that was us.

And as a fisherman who doesn't eat fish I can't comment on the taste of the steaks but i do have a happy wife, happy wife = happy life and the opportunity to go and try and get them again

That's a great effort on 15kg your mate will probably be sore for days but I'm sure he thinks it was all worthwhile.

Looking at that pic, you sure you got enough grog to go with that fish?

A fish like that does deserve some celebrating, especially on 15. It would've won a few comps so far this year at the right time. Well done guys

I'm torn between the YFT and the cartons of beer. Which one would I rather have??? Maybe the fish first, and then celebrate with the beer!

Was it 80kg, Was it 70.375kg, Was it 69.467kg, Was it 86.627kg who cares it has already been stated that the fish was not weighed. Its a great fish and atop effort on 15kg. If there was a bit less criticism of peoples estimates and more kudos for peoples efforts iam sure we would all get to enjoy more reports of big fish.

Agreed mate, too many armchair legends carrying on again. I dont think those pics do the fish justice. Everyone is so quick to talk down the size / weight of a fish someone posts on here to let you know whats been caught. I reckon its close to his estimated weight. Look at the 2nd pic, its at least 6 slabs long which would be 6ft!

I have a habbit of now measuring all my fish before release and after kill, and from records kept we can estimate how heavy the fish is by its short length, from 8kg snapper,150kg marlin and 50,60,70,80 kilo tuna, because we still talk in kilograms not centimetres. If you did get an accurate measurement of the fish, usually you can estimate the weight of the fish to within afew kilos. If you did post back and we can work out a weight.

Looks like a nice fat one, good effort, top fish on 15.

Everyone is asking how much, how much, how much does she weigh/measure? The real question should be where? where? where did you hook such a beautiful beast?
