adkel53
I hit Botany bay this morning with my friend Greg co-owner, of the game boat Reel Magic. I introduced Greg to soft plastics a few years ago and he has taken to it like a duck to water. After a fruitless hour in deeper water we moved into some shallower stuff about an hour and a half before high tide. Things were slow and we only had three low 40's lizards and a couple of small bream in the live well by around 10.30. Then this old girl decided that she liked the look of the Gulp Crazylegs softy that I obviously dragged past her nose in 1.2 metres of water. She took it right at the boat, pulled off 10 or so metres of line and proceeded to swim almost around the boat, all the way back again and all the way back again. All this in plain view of two quite excited fishermen. Eventually she was coaxed in close and Greg did the honours with the net. She measured 92 cm and was in very good condition with a big fat belly. After some back-slapping and happy snaps she went back in to disgorge the contents of that belly when the time is right and so continue the cycle of life in Botany Bay. We then moved on to another area of shallow water where the tide was spilling off some flats and in the next 40 or so minutes landed six more lizards in the mid 40cm to mid 50cm range. So what began as a slowish morning turned into one to savour. Just love those bay lizards!! Tight lines everyone. Kel

adkel53
Great report, very nice croc there, what do you reckon she weighed? I'm guessing around 5kg. She was in superb condition. Just watching her cruising along the top, doubling back and forth while I tried to stay calm and tire her on the light gear I was using (2-4 kg Pflueger Trion rod, 2500 Shimano Stradic reel spooled with 6lb Fireline, 10lb Berkley Vanish leader with 30 cm of 17lb Vanish on the end and a 5" Gulp Crazylegs in limetiger colur on a 1/4 oz jighead) was just awesome. I caught a slightly longer one (land-based) in Lake Wonboyn way back in 1979 on a Vibrotail soft plastic (remember them anyone?) and 6lb mono straight through to the jighead. This was right up there with that one and much more visual. Can't resist a photo of me with her!

Now thats what I'm talking about......you can tell thats a ripper by the head shape.....great fish mate and well done on the release. Ive got a few around that length(92/93) and have seen them vary in weight from a skinny5kg to a fat as 6.8kg. Your fish looks in really good nic mate...She would be pushing 6kg for sure....congrats

Keflapod
Cracking Croc Kel, Now I know why there were 4 or 5 other boats together in that skinny stretch of water. I'm sure I saw the group of boats you were in (if you fished Satruday) and now I understand why they are there. I don't really fish for flatties so your secret is safe with me... ...but if I did catch one...hmmmm...if it was under 75cm it would come home with me, but over that, I would have to botch my own netting attempt so it can be released. Coz if I get it into the boat, releasing it becomes something I find hard to manage.... In any case, you're a better man than I to release her - well done - I hope you catch her again and again...and her offspring Tony
