SydneyIsSkyBlue
Hey guys, Can anyone recommend some reels (preferably very light weight) for some land-based squid jigging? I ended up grabbing the 8'6" Rovex Egi Squid Specialist Rod from Dinga but looking for the ideal reel to pair it with. Happy to spend anywhere between $100-$300. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Welster
I think the Stradic Ci4 2500 would be good.

Sea Ranger
I use a 1000 size reel. If you are only using this rig for squid you do not need the capacity of a larger reel. balance for your rod is important too. My next egi reel will be the Diawa Emeraldas. It is a 2500 size reel but with much less line capacity. Drag to suit. Bear

Its because of the shallow spool and but with 2500 sized spool for further casting i believe. Same as my Sephia Squidding tackle is one of those things that could be done from a simple handline to $500+ tackle. Start simple and work your way up! xerotao
Also just noticed you have a 8'6" rod. A 2500 would most likely balance/suit better than a 1000
Rebel
Hi, I use a 3000 Stradic. Works well. Cheers.
savit
Big orange snake stores used to stock those rods. From my memory they are not very light, even the smaller one 7'6". I would suggest to visit a store and check the rig feeling/balancing first with a few different reel models and sizes -before doing a few hundreds dollars reel commitment for $50 rod. SydneyIsSkyBlue
Thanks for all the help guys! The rationale behind getting a $50 rod initially was to start cheaper to get a feel for squidding and then progress from there. Half tempted to upgrade the rod as well now that I've got the hang of it.
