kingie chaser
Well that's annoying! There actually part of the ray family(Rajiformes) https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0009/375939/Shovelnose-Rays.pdf https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0007/631384/Identifying-sharks-and-rays.pdf Personally I'd be sending the DPI an email to as you would want to be sure. Better to err on the side of cations as you don't want to be pulled up at the ramp & stung with a $500 fine!!

Shovel nose rays/sharks are mentioned in the bag limit section. Some of you may be reading far too much into the research programs links.
Scratchie
They are fine to take. And as mentioned it is a bag limit of 5. I have eaten them in the past and they are not too bad but the larger ones have a slight chlorine taste! Cheers scratchie!!!

Bleed them out , skin and they are good, most sharks get that "ammonia" taste if they are left too long with the guts in.
