Rey05
Hi guys, first time poster here... Im looking at buying a boat, and the motor is a 90hp Suzuki. The seller is having the head gasket replaced as we speak after a abnormal compression test. Question is, would this be a boat i should walk away from, or do you guys think the risk is low given the head gasket has now been replaced? Thanks
Fun2fish
Hi replaced my head gasket a few weeks ago head was pitted but I was lucky enough to have a spare one. Unless you can find out cause and if any other damage I would look at something else

Thanks Who is doing the repairs, licenced boat mechanic or back yard hack? Will the repairs be under warranty & for how long?? Is their other damage from the gasket failing? These are the questions I would be asking. How many hours on the motor, does it have a full service history? Whats the rest of the boat like? When buying anything second hand there is always the risk that in 3 months something could fail.
Rebel
Welcome aboard. Ask for a Invoice and receipt for the repairs done on the motor.
Rey05
Thanks for the replies so far. The rest of the boat is in good nick, the motor is a df90, unsure of the year of it- at a guess 2004 ish. From whar ive been told its a licensed mechanic doing the repairs, but as some have said, ill be asking for a receipt.
rickmarlin62
Ask for repairers number and ask him what he found when pulled apart

jeffb5.8
Do you checks but there is nothing to say the next engine you buy doesn’t blow a head gasket 6mths after you buy it. so if it’s been repaired by a Lic mechanic and the reason has been found and fixed it should give yes of great service.
