Swordie and I went to try and find some hairtail last week. No hairtail but we had a great afternoon and early evening.

I deliberately chose the best day of sunshine and no rain. We motored up there around 2pm and launched from ATB.

We sat up in Jerusalem Bay and Stewy got to work preparing burley. Rods were out and we caught lots of yellowtail :) . My rod went off and I got a bit excited for a hairtail but alas it was a Stingray!! I lost a rod tip on my first custom made rod however Swordie has repaired it :1clap:

Stewy's rod went off and he caught a yellowtail that looked like a Cowanyoung :yahoo:

It was time to have a warm cuppa and a freshly cooked bacon and egg roll each.

Sun was going down and it was getting chilly :frozen:. Swordie caught a small jewfish, Still NO hairtail 😞

BOAT TRAILER

I have included some pics of the lights added on the side of the boat. They worked well. Swordie received a tackle shop gift card and bought a new stern light too!

The Polycraft is 17 years old and so was the trailer which had some serious rust in it. We spent some time going around and calling about how to replace it cheaply. The cost of new ones were massive and they were nowhere near the quality of the old one. We took it to the original trailer maker and they were able to do a refurbishment for a very reasonable price.

Sails Trailers have been around for a long time. Jim and Chris do a great job there. Tell them you are a fishraider member and they will look after you.

DECKEE APP

You will also see my Trip Log in use on my Deckee app. I logged our return trip from JB to ATB. It was a slower trip in the dark of course and I did not turn it off till we hitched up. This worked so well even in the dead spots which when reconnected picked up the last co-ords and "connected the dots". This is fantastic to have on your smartphone and you can make notes and share the trip with others as well as save it. This is all free so download it and don't be without it!!!

Never mind Donna, you gave them a good go, but, the sneaky buggers were elsewhere.

You can always fry up the yakka fillets.   Well, maybe not, though some asian chefs cook them up in restaurants for a good few dollars.

Always good to get out on the water -  especially when you get a feed of Hairtail.

You would be surprised how good the Yakka fillets are. We caught some big ones, probably Cowan Young size, on one trip, as we did not use them all for bait I filleted a couple and fried them up. I'll be doing it again. 🙂

Donna, Yakka's are $8.00 kg at fish markets and on the menu of several Sydney restaurants I’m told. I’ve had them skinned and filleted with center bones removed and were surprisingly good. I’ve had them as sashimi and ceviche also😁
