cbh742
Hi everyone, I'm looking for recommendations for a snapper reel.. ideally around a 4000. I mostly fish soft plastics in 10-25m of water off a boat and am looking for something in the $300-$400 range. I was hoping the new 2021 stradic came in a 4000 but they start at 5000. I'm half thinking of getting a 4000 Sustain, (i can get it for $370 on ebay after an ebay coupon) - anyone used them on snapper before? Going to pair it with a Trophy Hunter Snapper rod 10-20lb by Michael Bonnicci. Should be a tidy little combo.
noelm
Almost any "decent" reel will be OK for Snapper, they hardly do a long high speed run like (say) a Tuna, the Sustain will be fine for years.

Rebel
@Scratchie is right on the money. Or a Penn 4 slammer 4500hs. Super reel. Will stop a Mack truck. On special at the moment at one of the big fishing chain stoes. with $100 free gift card. Cheers.
Ken_Oath
I just saw a 6000 saragosa for 20% off
DrRaymondSnapper
+1 for the Saragossa suggestion Ken. Awesome reel. Will handle anything that swims. Great price too. Would be my choice and handy if something large takes the bait [ or plastic ] .
Rob81
There's a big difference between a 6000 size Saragosa and a 4000 sized Sustain. Between the 2, you should pick the one that fits the rod (Eg Balance, Reel seat etc). 4k Sustain is 285g, whilst the Gosa 6k is 455g. You wont fit those 2 reels on the same rod (comfortably).
