fredflathead
I have a 5.2m Caribeen Crest Cutter and the anchor chain is the length of the boat. I now having trouble pulling up the anchor (just turned 77 last week), am I getting too old or are my links too large What is the size for the links that others use. noelm
Depending on where you anchor, you might be able to lighten the chain somewhat, what sort of anchor do you have? Is an anchor winch out of the question? How about an anchor ball to take the strain/effort out of pulling the anchor? How about a deckie to pull the anchor? Lots of possibilities, we just need to know what you have now.
fredflathead
I have a sand anchor it would be the largest with the links 10mmm. The deckie is 73yrs old. I fish mainly Cowan Creek and Berowra Creek an anchor winch would be out of the question at this stage. I do have a small sand anchor I think I will try it next time out and have the other on board. noelm
Depending on how much current there is, a smaller sand anchor, with lighter chain (still reasonable length) would be worth a go, unless it really windy, or strong current, a sand anchor will hold bottom OK, especially in firm sandy bottom. dunc333
i would drop your chain down to 6mm and shorten to 4m long which would take off a lot of weight and invest in a anchor ball like nolem said , i think they are around $50 or you could make your own one for about $25 and i reckon you would be alright in cowan creek cheers dunc333
fredflathead
I had an anchor ball and gave it away as I was not going out past Lion Island anymore. I will get the 6mm chain and shorten as you say and give it ago and then if needed an anchor ball. Thanks for the replies .... Fred Flathead. Rebel
Mate. I had a Crestcutter & the chain was half the size of yours & i didn't have any problems. I didn't use a heavy chain. Hope this helps. Cheers.
Bryant fish
Where your fishing there isn't much current you should be able to get away with a small anchor and less chain. Cut some length off chain and take a shackle if it doesn't hold and need to add more weight

JustJames
If budget permits how about an electrickery motor and spot lock?
fredflathead
Not interested in an anchor winch thanks, I have solved the problem as Rebel said his Crest Cutter had half the chain size.
