Flatty Drift south of Port Hacking

Recommended Posts

Fished south of port hacking with a mate that also jet ski fish’s. He’s new to jet ski fishing, so I was showing him how to drift for flathead.

swell and wind was low today

A few blue spots about - sizes ranging from 36-48cm. We both managed 10 each in around 2 hours.

also caught 6 Bonnie’s - largest 55cm, 4 tailor, 1 rat kingfish. Just kept one tailor and 2 of the smallest Bonnie’s to make more baits.

Great bag of fish Chris!

Thanks Waza!
Mate, it was one of those days where all the sealife was out and about

Dolphins (riding our wakes), seals (frolicking around us) and humpbacks (breaching) - saw a huge whale do a full body breach - massive splash that was higher than a two story house.

I bet the whales look pretty big from a jet ski. Great day out catching over 20 fish

What a magic sounding  day. Well done. Waiting to see the whales in JB.

Thanks Fried Rice!

The whales are down there now. A mate of mine was out in Jervis bay on Wednesday - said he saw a few. They are definitely on the move at the moment.

Nicely done Chris and a great bag of fish. It seems there are lots of Flatties around at present.

thanks Bob, not huge fish down our way, but good numbers - mostly around that 40-45cm size atm.

Thats a top haul Mate.

Great photo.

Well done.

Thanks Rebel -

mate was happy too - his first time venturing out past the entrance of Port Hacking on his ski - & came home with a full box of fish for his family.

Nice haul!

Bonnies are too good to use (entirely) for bait.  The fillets make excellent sushi rolls (with avo).

Save the belly flaps for bait.

Thanks James,

I do sushimi it up sometimes - beautiful eating when fresh!

wife and kids won’t eat raw fish …wife gives me a shopping list of one fish - lol

Nice feed of Flatties.

Thanks Bessel - can’t go wrong with the humble blue spot!

well done on the flatties and bonnies. Good size

thanks Kantong, quite a few out there on the drifting grounds. If I can get them around that 45cm size - it a good fishing day.

Good work on the flatties, and others. Hopefully will get out myself.

Thanks mate!

Thought you might of headed out on Thursday - was dead flat and low wind out there.

No time available, or I would have been fishing.
