Ive had so many issues with split ring pliers over the years that I bought jigstar game split ring pliers which are easy to use on the heaviest of split rings. On light rings I find most of the cheaper brands will work.

If you are going to use them just now and again to change the hooks on a few lures etc the cheap $12-$15 ones are OK. If you are going to use them on a regular basis I would suggest you look in the price range $35-$80 . There is a HUGE difference in price between different brands and the quality reflects in the product.

I am going to the big snake to buy a new pair today.

Hey mate, for small hardbodies like cranks etc I either use my surgical forceps or my micro split ring pliers, samaki make them if you want to purchase home grown but there are plenty of jdm versions too.

The big ones are easy, any long nose pliers can do the job but feel free to buy any standard split ring pliers if you feel the need.

Ah cheers mate, I just assume people already know how to work lures, but yeah I could. Any lures in particular?

mostly how to metal jigs and big jerkshads. I can do all the standard techniques on plastics but 5 inch jerkshads are rather difficult
