Mainly have only ever fished the Wollondilly for redfin in town, my pb being 43 cm on 3 separate occasions, but had been hearing about the increasing numbers of carp getting around. Decided it would be good for a change of scenery, plus in spring, the big reddies go away and little ones plague the joint, so took an old rod and some corn down to sight cast for them. Didn't see any Monday but saw a couple yesterday, threw the corn in front of him and saww him eat it. I had heard they fight hard, but didn't realise so hard. A few minutes later, landed it, donked it on the head with a stick.

Estimate to be around 55-60 CMS and it was very fat.

The others in the school got spooked by corn thereafter so that was the only fish.

That is one less in a river of millions. 🤣

Yes, they can put up a fight, the big tail and thick wrist in front of the tail helps them steam along.

They are great fun to catch using either bread , worms or corn kernels. As you say the pull well. Early morning is always a good time as they always seem to be the first fish feeding each day.

My local is teeming with them at the moment. Huge fish that look to be about 4-5kg swimming in schools of 20+. One stretch of about 50m was so thick with them I had to paddle on as my lure kept grazing past them, coming in with big 20c coin size scales on the trebles.

Horrible things.
