    I use led spotlights on the boat and love them, you can see better with them compared to halogen etc, i've also gotten rid of all my spotlights on my 4wd and replaced them with led light bars, would never go back.

    Don't know how true this is but it has been said that this shark was caught recently and towed 2 miles out to sea.....tail first. I'm hoping this isn't true as there was no reason to kill it if this is actually true.

    If you camping at Patonga, it's a long haul to Lake Mac for a fish. There's a few camp spots up that way if you wanna fish northern end of central coast.

    Since commercial fishing ceased in Lake Mac the sightings of sharks has really increased, water temp is right and there's now plenty of food for them to eat. You'd be quite surprised if you actually knew many sharks are in the lake, I for one will not swim in the lake. I've seen plenty of hammerheads around Pulbah Island and bull sharks up to 2.5m in the southern end of lake, even up Dora Creek. A few years ago I caught a bull shark there, approx 1.8m in length. Living so close to there I am always fishing there.

    Not a great white BUT a hammerhead sighted and photographed off Pulbah Island.

    I use a few Pflueger rods, got 3 Patriarch XTR rods which I really like as they are so light and I also have 2 Asaro rods which have copped a hiding and haven't had an issue with. Got a heap of their reels also which are great.

    You are 100% correct Paikea, a sanctuary zone it is. BSJ, where you were fishing is ILLEGAL and you should know better, it is your responsibility to know where you can and can't fish and what you can and cannot take. Shame on you for fishing illegally in a sanctuary zone!!!

    Below is from The Newcastle Herald, i've seen plenty of bull sharks in the lake but not a great white.....yet. This sighting was seen by Marine Rescue also who were nearby when it breached the surface.

    Hi Neil, There has been some recent posts regarding Lake Macquarie, if you use the "search" function up the top right you'll find a wealth of information on the lake with locations etc.

    I've got the HDS combo by Lowrance and I must say i'm not a real fan of the unit, i've seen better units out there. The stock map with it is complete rubbish and the sonar isn't much better, i've regretted getting mine.

    Ourimbah Creek, i've fished there for EP's and used 8lb braid with 10lb leader with no problems, still got a good hookup rate.

    Fish heavy, they will stretch your arms and keep the hurt on them before they head for cover.
