  1. ok well i agree with luke on the fact that braid is better but for someone starting out getting used to tyying knots and unsure oif whether it will be a sport that they would like to stick with... congratulations on becoming a member herer and starting our great sport bait presentation is a massive thing as well as hook size my advice is ..im assuming you have a local tackle shop my suggesti0on go in and have a yarn to them...theyll be able to help you by pointing u in the right direction on what when and how to catch the fish in your area...the guys in the stores have years of experience and ne1 who is fishing can always learn from people like this...i still do and uive been fishing with the old man for nearly 15 years..neways man welcome and if any other questions pm me for more advice id be more than happy to hgelp as would any of the other raiders..
  2. it takes a lil longer to find a hole thats holdfing fish...but the advantage of fish9ing beaches in winter is firstly no 1 else fishes em cos its so bloody cold and secondly the fish youy do get are solid very fat fish the 3 bream we g0ot this morning wengt a couple of kg by them selves which are good fish in any mans language...umm im not extremely keen to dosclose my spot in a public forum but if u pm me i will point you in a direction...but publicly i will say this beach worms good second choice bait ...live blood worms for the win...
  3. congrats n9ice feed there man ande good to see you passinbg on information for other raiders
  4. Anyways guys headed down to my favourite little hole atm that recently produced my first jew twice3 today the morning session was more of a hit and hope effort and when i went down there was angry at myself for not bringing the alvey and deciding to fish the lighter gear dropped one good jew there about 80cm in the wash at my feet and dropped 2 average bream in the wash it seems to be a habit of mine...but its part and parcel of fishing the beach...nedways this evening had a lil more planning behind it however the plans were hindered somewhat that we couldnt get a bonito for love nor money anywhere so left with bloodwroms me and the old man head over just after 1230 and within seconds the old man was on and landed a solid bram goin 38cm and soon after 2 whiting each goin 35 + 39cm respectively all went quiet for a while then i got on and got 2 bream eachgoing 32cm plus and a couple of barely legal whiting....the whiting though all had scars on the backs and i think i know what i need for jew baits next time....i need to get me some live whiting right on legal and i know theres some thumper jews in this hole im fishing ... suprisingly guys it is one oif sydneys most popular beaches that is producing the fish and im loving it..pics will come soon guys cos atm im off to sleep cos its just after 6am nite guys and gals.
  5. well done guys you keep getting em in all sizes....and once again on tailor fillet hmmm i think the way you guys are going my beach jew sessions may go on hold while i pursue some wharf jewwwww...neways well done boys and aoll the best
  6. your explanation is as good as anyone elses cos as far as i here and ive experienced lately youve got about as much chance of catching fish in the hacking as having the government go hey guess what we just found a ufo...you do the odds...on a side noter everyone is going on and on and on ab out the jackets being in plague proportions the little snapper arent far behind everywhere u go you get harrassed by the olil tackers.
  7. the trick with the jackets is keep cheap gear with u and bag out so that everyone else will think your a champion...but seriously ive spoken to a bloke who works at my local who has been seeing that many jackets around when fishing for kings that the kings are fighting with the jackets for food beat that its beyond a joke...
  8. congratu.ations mate i bet you were proud as punch when the lil bloke got his first flattie...and its wonderful to see raiders passing on the great sport of theirs to the next gen of lil blokes.
  9. onya cut_loose bunnies through thick and thin mate i dunno man we have won games that have been goin ok and then lost games we shouldve won easily so go figure this weekend we could get up that being said my next session fishing for jew i could bag out...you do the maths on the odds..
  10. are they available atm ...
  11. hey just wondering are there any brag mats available atm and wondering what eose is available atm
  12. excellent point yet another reason having the length of the spear is an advantage hahah
  13. i definately agree that most of the blackies that are caught are caught during the day because thats when people fuish for them ...they are as mentioned above a very reliable daytime fish but are often a bycatch when fishing for bream and the like at night off the rocks so i cant c why fishing for them at night wouldnt work alhough it would prob ably have to be by touch rather than sight..
  14. i probably shouldve mentioned that there are areas where it is illegal to gather crabs and the like within sydney and to make sure you obey the intertidal protected zones....gathering red rock crabs by hand is downright dangerous neverkind near impossibkle as they hide right on the edge of the rockface and in water and that means that ur trying not to get nipped at the same time as grabbing them and pulling them out while keeping an eye on the water the advantage of night is that they wander out of their hidey holes.... from reading that linki dont see where it says thyre illegal and my old man and i have been using them for as long as hes been fishing the rocks and hes never heard nething about it but if im wrong id apreciate someone informing me before one of the 3 fisheries officers sydney has speaks to me about it hahah
  15. ok in order they taste awesome alot of people arent fans but they kmake amazing fish cocktails and my brother who doesnt eat fish will eat pig and groper cocktails... they grow to about 1 metre however the fish above is a good sized fish however they are a fish that change gender as they grow and a lil background reading is a good idea so you can do your bit to try and protect the numbers...as a side note the bigger ones are definately fcandidates for a happy snap and then to be sent on their ways to keep the species going...the numbers are relatively lowert than they should be oweing in the past as they are a very inquisitive fish and will swim up close enuff to pat on the head when ur diving... and they for a long time have been a target for explosives and spearfishing in the past...but definately a good feed and built like small sherman tanks.. tehy are not sold commercially to my knowledge as they to be caught by line only and as such it isnt viable for a comercial entity to sell them as the empty hours that go between fish...as well as they may be a protected species to commercial fishing.. not sure how long they live... red rock crabs .. get a good quality head lamp preferably led..good quality shoes a dolphin torch and a crab spear and look through crevices at night other than diving this is the best bet as daytime they are way to skitish and when spotlighted they are a lil easier to catch..
  16. hey are there any plands for another workshop soon id be interested in it and would also consider helping out on organisation as i understand that many of the mods and senior guys on here have alot on their plates..
  17. cheers guys ive only got the 1 jew unde3r my belty but im getting there and more will be soon to come hopefully if any of you more senior gusy are up for teaching a youngun a lil more in person pm me and im a very receptive learner thanks for all that guys
  18. gday mate good job on the noahs arks and the lizards..where were u fiwshing and with what were u using for bait neways man well done and keep it up...
  19. Well anyways guys ive been putting in more and more hours at wharves and beaches and finnaly it happened im on the board..... Me and the old man rocked up at a spot that has been producing consistent quality 34 -40 cm bream and whiting of late... and it has some awesom gutters and holes as well as yes it is one of sydneys most -popular beaches..well we knocked off work on friday arvo after spending 6 hours in the roof and with the arvo high at 6:23 we rocked up and had the baits in the water at 530ish a bit later than planned but it happens on one rod i had a fresh baby squid and on the other rod a whole blood worm anyways about half hour goes bye and a couple of small whiting and all of a sudden slam the blood worm is off and running after a good first up run of about 40 m the lack of white water on the beach at the time meant i could turn him and move him back and then all of a sudden he gets int hat last little bit of wash and goes again so i spend 3 or 4 mins trying to get the sucker out of there and im pumped... on the beach the first jew landed... measuring a respectable 62cm and weighing a few kgs buit definately a good way to start and a quality beach jew after that for the next hour or so little whiting were in plague proportion all well under size and i have a feeling that a few off them might have gone missing that night cos i had 2 more solid runs on the squid and the blood worm 1 each but neither could be landed as they just destroyed me in the surge i sighted the second fish and it looked to be closer to the 80 to 90cm mark anyways headed home... and am getting ready to cook the lil guy as i type this... Should go down well with a few cold ones.
  20. JEWGAFFER looking to get a couple of aolveys poreferably stainless steel backed to add to the other but i cant find stainless steel ones nemore.... ....but u said u can get em where have u seen em thx in advance
  21. the new alveys do look a lil big and tough but theyh arent that heavy and the benefits are deifnately something to look at in the future tho go into any tackle storwe or possibly speak to one of the many site sponsors and they will be able to hook u up with a good rock combo with an albvey and for what they are the are incredibly simple to use and not very much can go wrong..
  22. well ill be the first to say it i do alot of work off the rocks most of it being for big angryb creatures such as pigs and groper that u need to stop very very quickly BUT my suggestion .... if your fishing off the rocks go an alvey a good 6.5inch alvey will take all the beating u give it on the rocks and all the sand and saltwater from the beach... but definately a consideration for the rocks...
  23. pm me if u need to and ill try give u a hand on some of my bait and tackle shops
  24. hey guys in reference to my post a lil earlier just wondering if ne1 is getting ne pigs and groper off the rocks atm ....
