  8. ive actually only ever caught jewies on nippers but ive only caught three, bad luck though sounds like a nice jew. yeah get a nice big nipper with a nice big pink claw and everything will have a go. well done with your other catchs too sounds like a fun evening.

  10. thanks mike you have given me something to think about there and ill definitely give it a try. hopefully i get myself a thumper i heard they are getting up to 55cm. is a metal trace not a good idea because itr will deter the fish??? thanks again
  11. at some of the spots ive been going to latley i have just been losing tackle without even feeling a bite, a mate of mine and i have a couple of theories either there are oysters on the rocks and we get jagged on them and they cut us off?? not likley especially since its been a few spots. or as someone suggested to us that there are leather jackets in plague proportions out there? could it be that the jackets have been stealing my bait hooks and all?? or maybe biting my fluro beads and hence breaking the line? if so i think its time for some revenge, i heard leather jackets are good eating (well my old man thinks so anyway). so i was just wondering if anyone catches leather jackets are there any special tactics to employ maybe a metal trace? smaller hook? different bait? small bait large bait? im at a bit of a loss cause i thought i would have luckily caught one on my normal bream set up.
  12. yeah a shame about the hooligans m8 , but well done in the end looks like you had the last laugh.
  13. great report m8, im still looking for my first kingy in the bay. if you dont mind me asking what soft plastic did you use?? Cheers

  15. Brilliant absolutly brilliant. where abouts down the coast if you dont mind me asking? well done again.
  16. what are you meant to do??? hook em up and kill em and throw them back???
  17. i use a bait trap with bread in it and get poddy mullet they are easy to catch this way and great little live bait. maybe something to consider?
  18. wow i wouldnt have ever thought that many people would die rock fishing, i know it can be very dangerous but i hope they dont try to ban it. i agree with tumra maybe mandatory cleats & life jacket.
  19. can someone pm me for a good spot to find these carp?? are they easy to catch?? what gear do we use?? looks like a fun way to help the environment and catching a good 3kilo carp would be a bit of entertainment.
  20. dont let it get you down we all have those days but persistance and patience pays off in fishing, also trying a few diffrent tactics to not only amuse yourself but also test what is working best where and when.
  21. thanks mate, no i didnt skin them i just scaled them (the skin peels straight off when you cook them) like you would do any normal fish, this was one of the rare times that id actually kept fish rather than release them so im no expert on killing or preparing fish. i just cut the top of the spine, gut, scale and throw them on ice. simple but effective.
  22. top read mate and sounds like a cracker of a day.
  23. it was a 3 inch shad mine was dark on the top light and pinkish on the bottom and sides and my mate used a 3 inch shad that was bright pink with glitter on it they are cheap but effective. and you cant forget the ultrabite spray.
  24. went to botany bay with a mate on saturday got on the water just before sunrise and planned to go for squid but that didnt last long we saw a good size squid but didnt manage to hook it, so we gave up and went for some drifts throwing some soft plastices around. we got some nice size flatties and a tiger flatty? that wasnt legal. also dropped a great size flounder just metres from the boat after about three hours the wind was picking us so we called it a day. not a bad morning on the bay. tiger flathead: Lunch & Dinner
  25. Hi fellow Raiders, Im going squidding for my first time on saturday out in botany bay, i just want to catch a couple of nice ones for bait. i have read up a fair bit about squidding from this site and some books etc but i just wanted to know if anybody would be willing to shed some light on their fav spot for squid in the bay?? or what too look out for, for a good spuid spot? i heard that i can get squid in weedy areas so i was going to try along kurnell beach??? any advice or tips would be much appreciated. also if i caught a big squid that was too big to use as bait would it work just as effectivly to cut the squid up?? i know it will be dead and i was aiming for live baits but it would have only died seconds before hitting the water so my theory is it should be nearly equally as effective. also will burley help?? ill be using a squid jig so should i put some ultrabite attractant on it or does that mainly work for fish? as always your advise is very much appreciated. Cheers Deano
